I've been having a bit more of a tinker with this model to try and correct a few of things. Most of the changes have been structural to improve some of the stiffness, so there's not a huge amount to see on the outside that's different.

Managed to get 3 working front LED lights on 10000.

Both have 9v motors in. The pics dont really show it but I managed to get hold of some metalic brushed aluminium vinyl for the numbers and lettering, which looks very nice IRL and true to proto. 3mm tube is LEGO metalic silver, again the pics dont show it well.

I've also tried to include the subtle differences between the engines ;)

These are the first 7 wide full size diesels I have done (they were sort of a test to see if I can re-visit the class 37 and 40) and also now the longest at 2 or 4 studs (cant remember) longer than the Pullman DMU units.

I never did mention what I'd discovered on my trip to the British Library.

As feared, there wasn't a lot that was new, although it was still good to find the primary sources cited elsewhere and see them for myself. There were no new insights into the layout of the equipment beneath the floor or much of anything else that would help with modelling the railcar in both it's incarnations. However, I did find that by looking at the original article regarding it's conversion to a maintenance vehicle, the quality of the images were slightly better than the online version reproduced by the LMS Carriage Association.

Atmospheric illustration by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), a specialist in maritime subjects. He was employed on shipping camouflage duties in both world wars and one this mural painting (Plymouth Harbour) went down with the Titanic. He frequently worked for LMS whose publicity lacked the flair and invention of their main competitor (LNER) while maintaining a high standard of distinguished imagery. 1934

Some scans of recently discovered old 6 x 4 prints taken by myself back in the 1980s and 1990s. These were taken with my trusted Canon AE1 camera and at the time I didn’t think some of them were good enough to use however, I thought some might find them interesting and that I would now share them.

The tank is all back together and ready for the May weekend running at Gilling. A quick check over reviled suspension nuts missing! so worth regularly inspecting rolling stock for loose or missing nuts.

This is the posh end. I've had to use some creative techniques to fit some semblance of seating around the various chassis structures. I've used trans-clear parts to try and minimise the visual impact of this.

Other details that have needed an educated guess include parts of the railcar itself. I am uncertain about the layout of windows, doors and any other bodyside features on the second car, which was furthest from the camera.

This recessed feature could be anything, from a vent to an open door, although I have decided that, as the gap appears to extend all the way to the roof, it could just as easily be a ladder. I may change my mind about this in a day or so, but for now I feel content with it.

Apologies for the lack of updates but things have been a bit busy here. I've been juggling real life, finalising the design for the second version of the railcar and making minor changes to the original version as issues presented themselves. However, I have not been idle and its finally time to show the design concept.

All vehicles are built using a chassis with sub-assemblies hung off them. This is the middle coach in it's ready-to-assemble form.
