The shaping of the transition between the roof and the bodysides is just as I'd hoped and the structure remains strong.
With the roof on, this is the way that the front of the train looks. I'm very pleased with the way it's turned out.
A quick look inside at the mess. Er, I mean precision engineering (ahem). It's a fairly vanilla concoction of plates and clips, but arranging them to create a curved cab was quite a challenge.

A ’Pug’ in a livery not seen since the days of the LMS - L&Y No. 19 rolled out of Baron Street Shed this afternoon, over 90 years since 11243 last carried this guise as a working engine.
I've taken a slice through the railcar body to show how the profile has been achieved. Obviously I'll need to prototype this with some real bricks to check that it will actually work as advertised.

Stanier LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 "Black 5" No, 5000 on static display at The National Railway Museum, York, on 27th September 2011.
The loco was taking part in the "LMS Weekend" event at York and Locomotion, NRM, Shildon, with shuttle services provided between the two museums over the weekend hauled by various other locomotives.
Ex-LMS Fowler 3MT 2-6-2T 40011 at Carnforth shed, on a hazy day in May 1960, during a shed visit..
The loco had entered service in 1930, and was - finally - withdrawn in August 1960, and scrapped in September. None of the class survived into preservation..
Carnforth shed closed to steam in 1968, but later became 'Steamtown Carnforth', and was regularly open to the public for some years. In 1998 it was closed to the public, but is still in use today (2023), as a base and maintenance facility for preserved steam on UK mainlines..

I'd been playing around with some Technic trying to come up with a reasonable way of close coupling vehicles when I happened on this arrangement of parts. As you can see, it permits a sort of floating pivot point along what is almost a straight line. The advantage of this is that it would permit two vehicles to be close coupled on straights but gives sufficient clearance for curves and movement of the vehicles relative to each other.
The original idea had been that this would be used for bogie vehicles. The mechanism would be mounted within the body of the vehicle with a straight bar coupler to join the vehicles together. Because each vehicle would centre correctly due to the bogies making reference to the track, this should not need anything additional for the geometry to work. At present, I have not had any time to build or test this.
