It is a lesser but elegant temple built by Alaungsithu in 1131 A.D. Standing on a high brick platform, the temple faces north and access to it is made by a flight of steps at the north west comer. Both the hall and the inner corridor round the central mass have doorways and open windows which freely admit light and air.

The arch-pediments, pilasters, plinth and comice mouldings are decorated with fine stucco carvings. Its history is recorded on two stone slabs set in the inner walls. The lithic inscription in verse is celebrated for the style and elegance of its composition. It is mentioned therein that the temple was completed in seven months.

Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. The shape and construction of each building is highly significant in Buddhism with each component part taking on spiritual meaning.

With regards to tour comparison between this immense archeological site and the other significant archeological gem of Southeast Asia, the Angkor sites, this analogy may be helpful:

Angkor ruins are like a Chinese Lauriat banquet where food is presented in spectacular servings with a suspenseful wait between items which are hidden beneath curtains of forests. On the other hand, Bagan is served in Spanish Tapas style, the ingredients exposed to the customer and shown in small bite-size servings, with the next attraction close and visible at hand, in shorter intervals.

Another analogy between Angkor and Bagan Sites when distinguishing temple structures is through their stupa and spire shapes.

What makes the temples look romantic is the process of graceful aging. For some reason, there are no windbreakers around as shown by the barren, desert-dry mountain range to the west past the river, spinning occasional micro twisters that spawn loose dust particles everywhere from the eroded earth to the structures. This phenomenon had peeled off so much the stucco coating of the temples to reveal the brick structural blocks with its rusty, reddish, and sometimes golden brown-like patina when hit by the sun's rays.

Erosion is a significant threat to this area, not only the wind chipping away the buildings' plastering but also water from the mighty Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River threatens the riverbanks. The strong river current has already washed away half of the area of Old Bagan. It used to be a rectangular-shaped piece of enclave protected by a perimeter wall. Now what remains is roughly the triangular eastern half part.

Other images of Bagan which make a lasting impression to tourists aside from the spire-fringed skyline; stupas sporting that tumbledown look yet crowned with glitter-studded golden miter-like sikaras; the ubiquitous pair of ferocious stone lions flanking a temple's door; the spiky and lacy eave fascia woodcarvings lining a monastery's ascending tiers of roofs; tall palmyras or toddy palms with willowy trunks, bougainvilleas, exotic cotton trees, and the likes bringing life to the arid landscape and abandoned ruins; squirrels playfully and acrobatically scampering on the walls and pediments of temples; horse drawn carriages lazily carrying drop-jawed tourists; sleepy moving grandfather's bullock carts grinding on a dust-choked trail; not to mention the garbage left around, stray dogs loitering, longyi clad men spitting betel chews in copious amounts everywhere, overgrown weeds and the pestering dust.

The sly and lithe Snake-bird glides silently through the air, completely hidden behind a stolen branch. When spotted, it stops mid-air, like a tree in a gentle breeze, remaining carefully under cover. It approaches small children with cool toys and interesting snacks stealing these trinkets with great skill and sending their victims into howling wails. Unsuspecting parents speculate curiously as to ultimate fate of the missing objects while these birds hide, nearby, snickering behind their branches. They dive into the water frequently leaving only their heads visible, watching as frantic parents are forced to run off to nearby stores to replace the missing goods and ultimately leaving the birds to enjoy their peaceful sanctuary. #Anhinga #FakeNews

Guinevere Fouroux cants her head, trying to catch the cat's eyes, and can't help the slight smile that curves her lips, despite the circumstances. "I have a message for you," she says quietly. It feels off that she doesn't even have the woman's name.

Elekin Encke's head is still hanging upside down, hair akimbo. *POP* goes her finger with another sucking schwup. Yummy paste. "Message hmmm." Her head swings out of view. But then her legs fly around and she leaps down, pressing against the bars lithe. Through one the finger curls, dipping more paste on her tongue. Disguised Guin sees she's clearly a Siamese mix, furred and colored in that fashion, and her blue eyes are pale and furtive. "From who did the message blew? If it's for me. Beyond the sea?"

Guinevere Fouroux watches, fascinated, as the cat drops from the bunk. She looks different than any cat she'd ever seen, certainly not like the nekos she is used to. "Not quite that far," she says, with a quiet laugh. She glances over to the soldier standing watch, and gives him a small wave. "Clouet is coming to visit."

Sam Python smiles at Guin, not hearing a word she said. Clouet might be the name of a fancy French whore for all he knew, anyway.

"Clouet?" she repeats, voice twirling in the air. The oval shape of her pupils dilates and fattens. "Visit visit visit. Not a visit like this, tis it.... " She grins, showing teeth, and abruptly hops on the toilet, pressing her face against the grate.

Guin winces as the girl repeats the name, but another glance at the soldier shows he didn't hear. Or didn't care. She nods in return, then blinks as the cat presses her face against the grate. "I don't know," she says helplessly. "I hope not. A visit like this, maybe." She glances down at herself. Her message is delivered. In and out, she'd been told. Still, before she leaves... "Are you all right?" she asks quietly.

Elekin watches her in return, evident that there was much thought levelling in her mind as she did so. She nodded. "I am okay." Her whiskers twitch, and she wipes her pasty finger on the top of the toilet. "Tell her. I hope. I hope she's not disappointed."

Guin stills at the woman's response, all hint of a tease seeming to be gone from her tone. She smiles warmly--and though she had no idea what these circumstances were, her gut tells her that wasn't the case. "I'll tell her," she agrees, and nods again. "And soon you can tell her yourself." She hesitates a moment more, but there are others waiting and she has to go. "Stay safe," she murmurs, then heads toward the exit.

Toned in Se 1+9, 60 sec.

Paper acquired from Wolfgang Moersch and developed according to his instructions with a fat lith soup. First print in the series was ok, needing only (?) 12 min developing.

Löfberg's Coffee Roastery in the background, some days (depending on the wind) bringing a nice scent of roasted coffee beans all over the city.

This is a demanding lithable paper, the lith mixture only lasts for a few papers, despite the rich blend. And developing times are long... Not much IR contrast here, overcast weather and early morning. Paper surface cracking up, more of that will follow.

As you see, it's almost a year since I last "took care" of this enormous paper (60x50 cm).

But now it was time again for the tedious job of cutting these huge papers down in the darkroom to a more handable size (8x10"). 7 sheets = 42 pcs of 8x10"! That's good :-). I hope they weren't fogged during the cutting down process, but I try to keep the darkroom lights as dim as possible during activities like these.

Summa summarum: The lith printing must go on.

This emulsion is verified by Foma to be the same as Rollei Vintage 332 RC. So lithable, it is.

Cranach made numerous paintings on this subject: some depict Venus with her son, the mischievous Cupid, bow and arrow in hand; others warn of perils of bittersweet love. Here, the goddess is alone, holding us in her gaze. As if mocking at modesty, the jewellery and thin veil only emphasize her nudity. Her lithe, slightly swaying stance and elongated proportions offer an idea of beauty different from contemporary Italian art. Cranach’s many Venuses have become emblems of the German Renaissance.

And another one: an older negative, printed only now!

I've found this one a bit difficult to print so that it hits my vision for it just right. After quite a few different prints, I ended up with this one and love it a lot. Especially the softness and creamy tone, pure eye candy.

Never before have I used a two bath lith process but I recently read quite a bit about it and decided to try it for myself with this print. To be honest, I couldn't tell you why I mixed my 2nd developer like I did, I was just told it would make sense that way ;)

As was expected, the paper lost its nice and strong warm color in the second developer but I managed to get this nice creamy tone still.

I blame myself for not photographing this phone booth earlier, the owner (the same one that has the Esso pumps) had put a life-size Superman in the Booth! But now it's gone. However, depiction with or without Superman, I think Foma Retrobrom is a really nice lithable paper with lovely colours :-)

My wife is crazy about pears, but any kind of pomes causes an allergic reaction. That´s why the pear is still waiting for a decision. A proven strategy to solve this problem is to wait until the fruit is uneatable.

The better alternative is to play a more active role and offer her one half, as Will suggested.

The disavantage is, that mostly one bite is enough for suffering and I have to eat the whole of the rest.

Life is hard sometimes.

I will report the progress.

In the meantime it causes other joys.

Tentu saja bukan sembarang bukit. Ini bukti episode katastropik, seperti karakteristik gunung api pada umumnya, gunung api strato Semilir tak kuat menahan tekanan magma yang semakin besar maka akan menghancurkan diri dengan cara erupsi.

My mommy Luna and I <3

This might seem slightly offensive, but it has become an inside joke in the family after my mommy Kewen said I had chubby legs and I decided to make my avatar thinner. Not any less offensive I suppose, but that's the context.

quelques éclairs sur le Gard hier soir .

It seemed like today was going to be like any other day of scouting. He'd taken it upon himself to go further than he usually did: the edge of their woods. The elf moved lithely through the trees, making no noise as he went. He was very skilled and well trained. It seemed there was nothing afoot, so perhaps it was time to head back.

However, something caught his attention as he began to turn! The sound of hooves could be heard! He slipped behind a tree so he was completely out of sight. Was it perhaps man crossing their border? He gave a silent, inward sigh. They'd had problems with mankind in the past. He'd hate to return home with news that man had come this way....again. Yet as he peeked around the edge of the tree, his eyes widened. What was that?! Who was that?!

Standing in the sunlight, gorgeous and unlike anything he'd ever seen before, stood a man....but he was half horse! He'd only heard about them but never seen one in person. It was very obviously a male, strong and muscled, the sun reflecting off his tanned shoulders. His blonde hair was like a beautiful beacon in the sun. He was...stunning and glorious.

The elf was so surprised that he'd let his guard down! And indeed, as the centaur made his way past, his gaze shifted to look over at the tree where the elf was watching him in utter surprise.

The centaur's eyes widened slightly. An elf! Though this was unlike the other elves he'd heard about. There was a wild beauty to him. He'd always heard that elves were agile and the best hunters. You'd never see one but...there one was and it looked shocked to be seeing him: a centaur. A tiny smirk tugged the corner of the centaur's lips, amused by his expression. "Greetings, He-Elf."

Special thanks to Vin for collaborating with me to get this picture set up and started and posing as the elf! Be sure to check out his fantastic photography in People in Photo!

I am home near Edinburgh having been on a tour of Aberdeenshire taking in Stone Circles and Pictish Symbol Stones along with other lithic monuments and also enjoying the locality in finding whatever happenstance could bring. My memories are criss crossed in heavenly glimmering and my visions are still stellar shimmering. On one memory card there are just five images, from them here are three pictures and each photograph here has been edited to have a second version with the look of a painting. I have been editing these images in an ever darkening and darkened room and I may not like these results tomorrow in daylight. This day has ended and also tomorrow and tomorrow will end too. Some of these day to come might involve finding out where our ancestors chose to make their wondrous places and enduring spaces. Some of the days to come could be recovery and edit days like today where I could have done with more natural illumination, but the Sun waits not and it goes making monumental displays for those fortunate to be enjoying the sun setting rays.

All the written information and some superb details in these pictures bring the village of Skara Brae to life in our modern era through the excavations of 1850 and onwards, 1928-1931 and the 1970s. From 1850 the dwellings and significant finds have been opened up. In the picture captioned, “Director of excavations at Skara Brae, Gordon Childe, emerges from a trench...” there looks to be a Kodak Brownie Box Camera to the right of the picture. The Brownie produced square pictures at two and a quarter inch size on No. 117 Roll Film. Brownie’s and other 117 Roll Film Cameras although some are made out of cardboard designed for limited use they can still produce good images today with some slight adjustments.

Skara Brae on Orkney is prehistoric gem. Semi-Subterranean houses and workshops make up the site as it stands today. It is an impressive site much visited and intricately studied as it offers to reveal how prehistoric people lived. The site is said to be built into the community midden, or rubbish dump. The soft midden can be shaped and moulded with stones fitting in the voids to make a very safe stable environment for living and working in. Skara Brae is vaunted as the most complete Neolithic Village in Europe. House 5 as labelled in this picture has had a drain and still shows stone furnishings looking like lithic versions of kitchen dressers, a central hearth and a window too. This once inland village is now perilously close to the sea and needs sea defences to maintain the structure from destruction by wind and sea. It was rediscovered in 1850 after a storm uncovered part of the structure.

Compare with the same neg below. Longer exposure and longer development should lead to less contrast and more colours. I don't know, this business is so multi-factorial that it's hard to do comparisons. For more adequate comparison I should probably have snitched the print earlier. Nevertheless, I'm satisfied with the result.

The Collie is a large but lithe herder standing anywhere from 22 to 26 inches tall. The rough variety boasts one of the canine kingdom’s most impressively showy coats; the smooth coat’s charms are subtler but no less satisfying. Coat colors in both varieties are sable and white, tricolor, blue merle, or white. Collie fanciers take pride in their breed’s elegant wedge-shaped head, whose mobile ears and almond eyes convey a wide variety of expressions.

Collies are famously fond of children and make wonderful family pets. These swift, athletic dogs thrive on companionship and regular exercise. With gentle training, they learn happily and rapidly. The Collie’s loyalty, intelligence, and sterling character are the stuff of legend.

The "Stone Mask" of Golgo, also known as the "Lithic Face", is a basaltic wall that reveals a surprising anthropomorphism when observed from a certain point on the path below: a bizarre result of the erosion caused on the rock by atmospheric agents. The rocky wall, about ten meters high, on which rain and wind have traced human features, almost defining eyes, nose and lips in detail, is located on the eastern side of "Baccu Dolcolce", behind a basaltic ridge that rises a few meters from the 'Il Rifugio' farmhouse (built in the early 1990s as part of a program to upgrade the accommodation facilities on the Golgo plateau).

Some sly miniature neurological intruder has strung a net across my brain - between the part that has ideas and the part in charge of executing. Ideas spring up like sockeye, silver, lithe, shimmering, leaping - only to flop back stunned and stupid after hitting the net. Again.

What happens to ideas when they're stymied like that? Do they starve, die, rot, without ever having spawned? Or do they regroup, reconstitute themselves, and come back later with a more developed business plan?

I guess we'll see.

Kudos to my US lith print friend Travis for sending me this unique lithable old paper!

These pictures from 2024 were taken on one of my best days. As well as the outline of a Large Blue Eye with a distinct blue spherical both iris and pupil there is a shadow at the left centre which casts very interesting even symbolic shades. The Witches' Stone just at the edge of the village of Spott is a good memorial of bad times and deeds. The Witches’ Stone always fills me with commemoration and remembrance of times not so long gone when Witch Hunts were after witches so upsettingly so that we still use the term Witch Hunt no more than ever for a falsely fuelled over active hunt often with vicious entanglements and outcomes.

The Witches’ Stone is on the East of Spott village and Easter Broomhouse Standing Stone is at the West of the village. In the village at the Church you can find The Jougs. From standing stone in the East past central stone church to a commemorative stone in the West there are three superb historic lithic sites. The Church has been a focal site to inspire and to contain history of the area and along with local archives there are some superb historic collections, myriad connections, and local recollections.

There are three tall Standing Stones near Spott, Easter Broomhouse, Pencraig Hill and Kirklandhill Standing Stones. Their placement in the landscape of natural bounties and hill forts is a key to some of the smaller monuments, This coastal area is full of life from the sea and the land and the stones stretch into the sky that keeps the seas calm and the lands fertile.

одесса 2006

Lumen print on Kentmere Kentona Glossy Double Weight, grade 2.

Exposed for 30 min in Swedish morning light.

Now we are talking, this contrast is otherwordly. It looks like the Tuja is deep frozen.

Lithable and warmtone papers rule (as always, I would say).

Kentona - with or without Cd - you make a great lumen paper!

Church of Santa Maria di Sibiola (Year 1125)

On the left side, the access staircase to the roof and the bell tower is integrated, of which only the base ashlars remain.

The lithic corbels fixed in the wall recall the stairways of the nuraghi.

Scanned IR lith print.

Rolleiflex T w/ Tessar 75 mm/f3.5 + Rollei IR filter.

Sept 12, 2024.

Rollei IR 400 in Adonal 1+100, semistand 1 h.

Same neg, different paper:

Lith printed on Fomabrom Variant IV 123 BO and developed in Moersch Easy Lith (25A+25B+40D+100OB+H2Oqs900).

Se 1+9 30 sec.

These are the differences between warmtone and coldtone lithable papers.

The Fomabrom Variant IV 123 BO was a "short living" attempt by Foma to make a paper which could be used for Bromoil (and maybe replace the original cold tone FB Variant IV 123, which was a very good lithable paper).

This one was good for both bromoil and lith printing :-).

When lithing coldtone papers, you want the "pepper" to appear. It's by far not as colourful as a warmtone papers. But on the other hand not so "high contrasty", so you can get more b&w nuances from the process. Which, btw, is much slower than the warmtone lith process. Expect exposure times to be around 5 min and developing times up to or above 20 (!) min. That of course depends on your "soup".

This was perhaps too much boring information, but if I can pass the knowledge ahead to coming b&w analog printers, it's worth it :-). And I'm of course not taking credit of any knowledge that Wolfgang Moersch possesses. Almost everything I've learned comes from him. Kudos, Wolfgang.

The lithe, clever dragon Tsuruto fights alongside one of the Emperor's senior Shogun. Together, they dominate the battlefields of Japan. Enemies are no match for this pair!

Lith print originally lithed in easylith 15+15+1000ml , bleached and then relithed 4+2+1000 at 38 degrees. Loved the tones but print patchy not sure whether due to bleaching or 2nd Lith so decided to handcolour to lift contrast and disguise blotches on print. Four colours used (marshall pencils set a) 2 greens, yellow and white on just grass and building to rear. A scan of a print print from 2013 when exploring lith printing in my darkroom. Happy days
