The elusive otter is one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish (particularly eels and salmonids), waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as 'holts'. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm, and can close their ears and nose when underwater. They require clean rivers, with an abundant source of food and plenty of vegetation to hide their secluded holts.

How to identify

The otter is a large, powerful mammal, with grey-brown fur, a broad snout, and a pale chest and throat. Otters can be distinguished from mink by their much larger size and broader face.

Distribution

A rare but widespread species, now found throughout the country but absent from parts of central and southern England, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands (Courtesy the Wildlife Trusts).

If looks could kill… A lithe, slender animal, the Puma has strong and very muscular limbs. Also known as the Cougar, Panther and Mountain Lion, it is a large felid of the subfamily Felinae. It is native to the Americas and its range spans from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes in South America. Pumas can purr continuously and come in two colour phases, a red and a grey phase.

This Puma is seen at the Cat Survival Trust, a charity which houses an array of species for education and conservation purposes.

This little guy was in the bushes by the pond where I was

photographing Egret's.

The mink is the most common water mammal predator (meat eater) in Minnesota. It can be found in nearly every wetland, lake, and creek in the state, including those in cities and towns. The mink is a versatile predator. Lithe and agile, it pursues its prey on land and in water.

TREES

What trees try to say

in their slow silence, their vague murmuring,

the sense they have, there where they are,

the reverence, the resonance, the transparency

and the bright and shadowy accents of an airy phrase.

And the shade and the leaves are the innocence of an idea

that between water and space turned itself to lithe integrity.

Beneath the magic breath of the light they are transparent boats.

I don’t know if it’s air or blood budding from their boughs.

I hear the finest foam of their green throats.

I am not, never will be, far from that pure water

and those ancient lamps of hidden isles.

What pure serenity of memory, what horizons

surrounding the silent well! It is a song in sleep

and the wind and light are the breath of a child

who upon a bough of a tree embraces the world.

My friends’ colt is now seven months old...

Here, he is standing in the pasture with his mother, after having some apple and pear slices. He is, as ever, very playful, inquisitive, well-mannered and gentle. She keeps him in line and he still finds time for comfort suckling. He will, when older, become as black as his mother.

He moves like a dancer and is as lithe and graceful as a speed skater.

Yes - he is a wee sweetie. Even though, he now stands about 6ft 6in tall!

Fomatone 132, Lithprint (Kontakt von einem Kallitypie Drucknegativ) mit speziell für Fomatone Papier abgestimmten Easy Lith FT.

sroll down for English

ENGLISH

Fomatone and Foma Retrobrom are the only papers currently in production that can be used for colourful lith prints. Oriental Warmtone is also a Fomatone emulsion since some years.

In recent years, errors have occurred in the lithing of Foma papers. According to Foma, the cause is a different gelatine quality from batch no. 0777 onwards. With development times of more than 6 minutes, both larger circular spots (snowball effect) and structures reminiscent of marble surfaces can appear.

For the SE5 Lith developer I have already pointed out several times how to avoid these defects. For the ready-tuned Easy Lith there is of course also the possibility to prevent this evil by adding Lith D and a modified workflow. For users who want to lith exclusively with Fomatone or Retrobrom papers, I can offer a variant of the Easy A concentrate, which already contains the necessary amount of development retarders.

At first glance, it may not seem plausible to suggest short development times as a solution to the problem on the one hand and to use a higher dosage of retarding substances on the other. For the sake of understanding, Ie would like to point out the relationship between a high amount of light for coloured results and the resulting necessity of a high dilution of the developer in order to achieve both coloured highlights and deep lith shadows at times between 8 and 12 minutes. Until a few years ago, this is how the process worked. However, to avoid the faults mentioned above, development with the current batches of Fomatone should be completed after about 6 minutes. So if coloured results (as in the past) are desired, the paper needs a strong overexposure. However, the developer must not be heavily diluted to avoid too fast development. With the suggested mixture of 50ml A + 50ml B on approx. 900ml water, the development process would have to be interrupted after 2-3 minutes, a real lith effect cannot be created in this way. If, however, a retarder is added to such fat developers, you will end up with development times of between 5 and 6 minutes for a given amount of light (for high colourfulness). If a second bath is used, be it a pure alkaline solution or another developer, no defects occur, even if the total development time can then be 8 minutes or more.

With the concentrates specially adapted for Fomatone, the working solution can be prepared with slightly less B if a second bath with alkaline solution should be necessary. For example, 5 ml B can be used to prepare the second bath with approx. 500 ml water.

LE VENT NOUS PORTERA - Noir Désir

Wandering along the Jurassic Coast

where dinosaurs once roamed

watching the sea ebb and flow

bubbling forming frothy sea foam

fossil hunters out for the day

wielding the tools of their trade

claw hammers swinging loose and lithe with their arms

down on their knees where the dinosaurs played

sticky thick black mud underfoot

sliding down the cliffside

lost shoes and wellington boots amid

the ancient layers once melded now slide

dogs run in and out of the sea

unaware of what is underfoot

petrified forests mean nothing to them

ammonites encrusted with carbonised soot

one hundred and eighty five million years of history

stretching over ninety-five miles of coastline

Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous

this is our Earth's history; yours and mine

imagine the amazing Mesozoic Era

when the Earth's crust began to stretch and sink

layers of sediment; hardening rocks

baking in a desert; it makes one think

then sea levels fell and a forest grew

then it died and was buried deep beneath the lagoons

and the swamps and the rivers flowed over and above

then the earth was moving and very soon

the Eastern rocks tilted while those in the West

eroded and soon the sea rose again

sandstone and chalk were laid down in the region

burying the tilted layers of older rock and then

erosion became a most natural artist

Mother Nature is skilled and brilliant that way

so now you can see the results of it's labours

in this beautiful landscape I show to you today.

Glen Lyon (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Lìomhann) is a glen in the Perth and Kinross region of Scotland. It is the longest enclosed glen in Scotland and runs for 34 miles (55 kilometres) from Loch Lyon in the west to the village of Fortingall in the east.

This glen was also known as An Crom Ghleann ("The Bent Glen"). The land given over to the MacGregors was Scottish Gaelic: An Tòiseachd. It forms part of the Loch Rannoch and Glen Lyon National Scenic Area, one of 40 such areas in Scotland, which are defined so as to identify areas of exceptional scenery and to ensure its protection from inappropriate development by restricting certain forms of development. Sir Walter Scott described Glen Lyon as the "longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland". Apart from a few scattered farms and cottages throughout the glen, the only real settlements are at Fortingall and Bridge of Balgie.

The Glen contains several small hamlets and has a Primary school where Gaelic is taught weekly.

Quite densely inhabited from prehistoric times (as many archaeological sites attest), though its present population is of modest size, the glen has been home to many families, including MacGregors, Lyons, Menzies, Stewarts, Macnaughtans, MacGibbons and the Campbells of Glen Lyon. At the end of the eleventh century the de Leons (later shortened to "Lyon") had come north with Edgar, son of Malcolm III of Scotland to fight against his uncle, Donald Bane. Edgar was victorious and the de Leons received lands that were later called Glen Lyon in Perthshire. Glen Lyon is a corruption from the Gaelic "lithe" meaning "flood", a frequent state of the River Lyon. Robert Campbell of Glenlyon (1630–1696), led the detachment of government troops responsible for the infamous Glencoe Massacre, of the MacDonalds of Glencoe in 1691. A magnificent silver-gilt brooch set with precious stones belonging to the Campbells of Glen Lyon (that has been dated to the early 16th century) is currently in the collection of the British Museum.

Glen Lyon, also written Glenlyon, has been the home of (among others) early Christian monks (including Adomnán [locally Eonán] (died 704), Abbot of Iona and biographer of St Columba), warriors, literary figures, explorers, castles (Meggernie Castle [still inhabited] and Carnbaan [ruined]) and arguably the best cattle in Scotland. Its history is described in Alexander Stewart's A Highland Parish (1928), and Duncan Campbell's The Lairds of Glenlyon (1886).

Ocean's Wrath

- fashion and fear collide -

In a haunting scene on a remote island, a woman finds herself entangled in the relentless grip of monstrous tentacles. Stranded and frightened, she struggles against the serpentine restraints, her heart pounding in rhythm with the crashing ocean waves. As the storm rages above, rain pours down, further adding to her sense of vulnerability. Despite the perilous circumstances, her attire, a unique combination of a bodysuit and skirt from Normandy's latest collection, remains resilient, showcasing the brand's enduring style amidst the chaos of nature's wrath.

Finally got to see the Callanish (Calanais) Complex of Circles today on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland.......many of the stones have a structure strikingly similar to the grain of wood......so unusual and breathtakingly beautiful.

“Some of my kin look just like trees now, and need something great to rouse them; and they speak only in whispers. But some of my trees are limb-lithe, and many can talk to me.”

I could not help seeing a lithe female runner in this reflected aurora shape, maybe you can too?
