The elusive otter is one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish (particularly eels and salmonids), waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. How to identify
The otter is a large, powerful mammal, with grey-brown fur, a broad snout, and a pale chest and throat. Otters can be distinguished from mink by their much larger size and broader face.
Distribution
A rare but widespread species, now found throughout the country but absent from parts of central and southern England, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands (Courtesy the Wildlife Trusts).

Linking surfing to prehistory is here perhaps best met by dates from 22,000 ybp and an ice age known as the Solutreen. Here the surfboard, liberated by a poetic-wipe out, may reminding viewers of lithic innovations that occurred during this epoch. A sense of knapping beauty, symmetry and laurel leaf-like simplicity.

There’s a five- to six-hour hike (15km) up the Cañon del Toachi to Quilotoa. It takes you through a spectacular canyon, past traditional farms and up to the crater lake.

The Toachi Canyon is a product of pyroclastic flows whose source was the Quilotoa volcano. The materials that form the base of the canyon are pumiceous elements, lapillis and volcanic bombs. The issuance of these flows has a suggested age of 1,800 years.
It is a great geographical accident in the form of a gigantic gorge that partly crosses the reserve and is visible from a natural viewpoint near Sigchos. It is a site with a beautiful landscape whose deep interior runs the Toachi River, the main hydrographic axis of the Area.
For rafting enthusiasts, the Toachi River Canyon is undoubtedly one of the best places to practice this sport full of adrenaline and adventure.
The Toachi River Canyon was formed by the emission of pyroclastic flows, lithic fragments, bombs and pumice from the Quilotoa volcano.
The visit facilities can be made from the main road, the canyon is almost entirely appreciable, for better security it is preferable to be accompanied by a guide due to its irregularity.

Mein Bestand an Agfa Brovira geht zu Ende und darum habe ich etwas nachgekauft. Zu meiner Überraschung lithet dieses Papier jetzt mit wenig Farbe, dafür aber mit sehr ausgeprägtem Korn. Das ist chargenabhängig und man kann nichts dagegen machen. Meine Charge ist aber in gutem Zustand, konventionelle Prints kommen kalt, gelingen aber gut und die Bildränder sind weiss. Eine Schwefeltonung nach moderater Bleichung bringt einen attraktiven Splitton.
My stock of Agfa Brovira is running out, so I bought some more. To my surprise, this paper now lithes with little color, but with very pronounced grain. This is batch dependent and there is nothing you can do about it. However, my batch is in good condition, conventional prints come cold but succeed well and the image edges are white. Sulfur toning after moderate bleaching results in an attractive split tone.

I usually use Lith G as a second bath to increase the colour intensity of highlights and mid-tones. However, the opposite is also possible with a different adjustment. Fomatone as the only lithable paper from current production is already too colourful for some purposes. With a little more lith G (glycine) and less ammonia chloride, the yellowish or reddish tone is shifted to a slightly more neutral brown tone.

This stone tool was made at Butser Ancient Farm on a Lithics Course. It is not an ancient stone tool but made by a skilled craftsman.The chips on the flint make the sharp edge, which make it a very efficient tool.

Mein Bestand an Agfa Brovira geht zu Ende und darum habe ich etwas nachgekauft. Zu meiner Überraschung lithet dieses Papier jetzt mit wenig Farbe, dafür aber mit sehr ausgeprägtem Korn. Das ist chargenabhängig und man kann nichts dagegen machen. Meine Charge ist aber in gutem Zustand, konventionelle Prints kommen kalt, gelingen aber gut und die Bildränder sind weiss. Eine Schwefeltonung nach moderater Bleichung bringt einen attraktiven Splitton.
My stock of Agfa Brovira is running out, so I bought some more. To my surprise, this paper now lithes with little color, but with very pronounced grain. This is batch dependent and there is nothing you can do about it. However, my batch is in good condition, conventional prints come cold but succeed well and the image edges are white. Sulfur toning after moderate bleaching results in an attractive split tone.
I decided to visit this delightful little Cats Museum currently featured under "Editor's Picks" this month... One of the things I especially appreciated were the two posters that had both "Friendly Plants for Cats" and "Toxic Plants for Cats" on the wall. I knew about a fair amount about the toxic plants, but not all, so I very much appreciate that knowledge - might save my own two rl kitties some day because of that!!
They also have real life pics of kitties for anyone who joins their group, and can have their own kitty pics posted in a frame on their walls, There's lots more great information and facts (in both English and Spanish) about our feline friends throughout! The 1924 Lancia with its outstanding technical innovations more than its performance, took part credibly in the first Mille Miglia race in 1927 where Lancia took the first three places in Class D (3,000 cc).
The following year, a factory entered car almost finished second place to a supercharged Alfa Romeo, a victim of a dropped valve near the end of the grueling race. Later, the Lambda replaced by the more formal Dilambda and no longer competed seriously in sports car racing for several years.
Why was this car so important technologically? First, it was the first car to feature a load bearing monocoque body which, ultimately, became the standard of auto manufacturing a decade later. Someone once said designer Vincenzo Lancia divined the idea when he contemplated the design of ships in which they incorporate the hull as part of the aggregate strength. With body sections stamped along with a chassis, the car was remarkably stable, easy to manufacture, but limited in terms of the ability to add different carrozzerie. Lancia abandoned the design in the early 1930s when the desire for different bodies in the now more luxurious idiom demanded a different platform.
By the mid-1930’s this unibody technique became universal. The driveshaft tunnel was the backbone of the car and they could seat the passengers beside rather than above the tunnel there by lowering the overall profile. An equally dramatic innovation was the independent sliding pillar front suspension comprised of an oil-filled tube with springs, adjustable through an opening on the front fender by which each wheel could move vertically through a significant radius, an important first.
The engine itself was different. A V4 in construction the angle of which was only 14 degrees with an overhead valve drive train. Finally, the external design was dramatic and very attractive. Because of the low set frame, a lithe profile was effected. Sweeping flared fenders graced the simple body which tapered nicely in the rear. Although not the first to do so, four-wheel brakes were standard on these cars since 1923. With this significant change, many consider Lancia the first mass-produced cars whose stopping power equaled their acceleration. They made Lambdas right up through 1931 when the Dilambda supervened. There was a progressive increase in displacement and horsepower.

The elusive otter is one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish (particularly eels and salmonids), waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as 'holts'. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm, and can close their ears and nose when underwater. They require clean rivers, with an abundant source of food and plenty of vegetation to hide their secluded holts.
How to identify
The otter is a large, powerful mammal, with grey-brown fur, a broad snout, and a pale chest and throat. Otters can be distinguished from mink by their much larger size and broader face.
Distribution
A rare but widespread species, now found throughout the country but absent from parts of central and southern England, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly and the Channel Islands (Courtesy the Wildlife Trusts).
