In October 2020, NASA confirmed the existence of molecular water near Clavius, at concentrations of up to 412 parts per million.[1] Several ways have been suggested. The water could be trapped into tiny beadlike structures in the soil that form out of the high heat created by micrometeorite impacts.[2] The water might also be sheltered between lunar soil grains. Another possibility is from very small asteroid strikes, such as a rubble pile from a much more massive "parent" asteroid collision. Pulled apart in its descent to the lunar surface similar to Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9, and hitting the surface in a modest dispersal area with a small mass at low, oblique impact angle and bouncing could allow some water to remain in the lithic matrix. The carbonaceous chondrite class is often water-rich, and the CI sub group are as much as 22% water.

The last contemporary lithable analog photo paper there is. Still reacting like old Fomatone in Lith Omega, a joy to see :-). I wonder how long we'll still be able to get something like this? (Spoiler alert: not long enough!).
The Mamiya 120 mm/f4 macro is an exceptional piece of glass, making 1:1 MF macro effortless without extension tubes or anything else. Love it.
My Country, our country indeed. I wanted to start the story of our recent journey through our country, in fact, some country Queensland but mostly New South Wales with a bit of a bang and I couldn't find any better shot than this one at the grain silos in Gunnedah, NSW which feature this marvellous mural of Dorothea Mackellar and her famous poem, "My Country".
I don't know what they teach at school today, but there wouldn't be anyone of my generation who didn't study and know her great poem. But I never realised to my regret in a way (obviously forgot) that the verse which no doubt stays is our memory the most is actually verse 2......"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains....." Here is the full poem.
My Country by Dorothea Mackellar
The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes.
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins,
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
A stark white ring-barked forest
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon.
Green tangle of the brushes,
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart, around us,
We see the cattle die -
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady, soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold -
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land -
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand -
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly
There is no doubt we saw and experienced much of this during our short trip. Here finally is a link in Wikipedia to the life of Dorothea Mackellar.
Another one of a kind, the 1934 Voisin C27 Figoni Cabriolet. Only one of 2 made and the sole survivor still alive and kicking.
Looking back at his career as an automobile manufacturer, it is quite amazing that Gabriel Voisin managed to sell well over 11,000 vehicles between 1919 and 1939. His cars were never conventional, always highly expensive to buy and certainly not cheap to run, but nevertheless he had built a loyal following of customers particularly in the 1920s. They were certainly not idiots, but rather true enthusiasts that opted to accept the common Voisin quirks in exchange for driving one of the most advanced and exclusive cars on the market.
Originally trained as an architect, Gabriel Voisin quickly turned to the emerging aeroplane industry and together with his brother formed 'Avions Voisin'. The company did good business in the Great War and as soon as the peace was signed Gabriel switched interests once more and converted his business into 'Automobiles Voisin'. He immediately created his own style with influences from his two former interests, but also had a more than average focus on passenger safety; his brother had a fatal car accident a few years earlier.
Apart from the obvious unique styling cues sported by most Voisins, the cars also stand out for the use of lightweight materials like aluminium and exotic technical solutions. The best example of the latter is the Knight patented sleeve-valve engine design of which Voisin was a big fan. This design allowed the engine to run virtually quiet, thanks to the absence of the rattling created by a regular valvetrain. One of the downsides was the large amount of oil required to properly lubricate the sleeves, usually resulting in quite noticeable oil smoke from the exhaust.
Voisin's most successful period was the mid-1920s when the range consisted of four and six cylinder models with relatively small displacement engines. Quite unusual for the time, most the cars were offered as complete cars with the coachwork designed and constructed in-house.
The Paris Salon of 1934 was clear proof that Gabriel Voisin was at the very top of the game, but sadly the world was not ready yet for his exotic machines and the sales figures remained poor. Just 28 examples of the C25 chassis were ever constructed and with one and two built respectively the C26 and C27 were even less successful. Voisin tried once more with the even more advanced 3.3 litre C28 chassis, but despite the incredibly modern 'Aerosport' coachwork without separate fenders, the company struggled to find buyers for their cars. Sadly Gabriel Voisin was forced to give up just when he reached the peak of his abilities.
Very few Voisins were coached by Figoni because Gabriel Voisin believed he could create superior coachwork in-house. This Voisin is an exception. For this Voisin, Figoni created a unique one-off design with a lithe, sporting profile, unlike the quintessential Voisin styling. The car was showcased at the Madrid Auto Salon in December 1934 and purchased by the Shah of Persia. It passed through various ownerships, and was discovered in the 1970s in a barn in France. Jacques Buson purchased the dilapidated Voisin and, with the help of Claude Figoni, Joseph's son, and Henry Bernard, son of Voisin's chief designer, the car was restored. In 1991 the Voisin was acquired by Peter Mullin and restored to its original spectactular specification.
One of only two built, the well-balanced Figoni & Falaschi body on this Voisin was one of the first to be influenced by modern aerodynamic principles.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens' statue Diana dominates the Great Stair Hall entrance to the Philadelphia Museum. In 2013-14 it was restored to its original gold-leaf finish. In 2008, it looked like this.
Diana was the lithe Roman goddess of the hunt.
The statue was sculpted by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. From 1893-1925, Diana was the weather vane atop Madison Square Garden.

“Steps” by Hermann Hesse
As every blossom wilts and every youth
Yields to age, so blooms every step of life,
So too blooms every wisdom and every virtue
In its time and may not last forever.
The heart must at all of life’s calls
Be ready to part and begin anew,
So that it may, with courage and without grief,
Give itself to new engagements.
In every beginning lives a magic,
Protecting us and helping us to live.
Lithely and cheerfully should we stride from room to room,
On none hang like we would a home,
The spirit of the world wants not to fetter or restrict us,
Rather to lift us step by step, to expand us.
We barely arrive in a phase of life
And already complacency threatens.
Only he who is ready to break off and travel
May break from crippling habituation.
Perhaps even the hour of death
Will dispatch to us fresh and new,
Life’s call to us will never end…
Well then, my heart, be and fare well!
Volcanic gases rises from the active lava lake in "Overlook Crater " that lies within the Halema‘uma‘u Crater on Kīlauea's summit on the Island of Hawai'i. This eruptive stage start with earthquake and fumerolic activitiy in late 2007. Increasing gas emission rates in early 2008 produced high concentrations of sulfur dioxide around the Halema‘uma‘u parking lot. For this reason, the National Park closed the western portion of Crater Rim Drive to the public on February 20, 2008. The first signs of change on the surface occurred on March 12, 2008, when a fumarolic area abruptly appeared on the south wall of Halema‘uma‘u, directly below the Halema‘uma‘u Overlook. This fumarolic area, emitting a thick gas plume, enlarged over subsequent days and was incandescent (glowing) at night.
At 2:58 am on the morning of March 19, 2008 an earthquake was measured, The quake was coincident with collapse of the fumarolic area near the overlook. A new, small crater formed from this collapse, which was also associated with an explosive eruption of lithic blocks. The new crater was informally called the "Overlook crater". Over the next few years the eruption continued with a lava lake forming in the crater. The level of the lava lake flucuated with time. It wasn't until 2017, however, that lava spilled from the crater on to the floor of its host, the the Halema‘uma‘u Crater. So far there has been continous eruptive activity from 2008 until this photo was taken in Dec 2017.
Halema‘uma‘u Crater is clearly seen in the photo. The "Overlook Crater" is inside the older crater and is not visible in this view. The photo was taken from Uwekahuma Bluff just south of the Jaggar Museum in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.

Same neg, different paper:
Lith printed on Fomabrom Variant IV 123 BO and developed in Moersch Easy Lith (25A+25B+40D+100OB+H2Oqs900).
Se 1+9 30 sec.
These are the differences between warmtone and coldtone lithable papers.
The Fomabrom Variant IV 123 BO was a "short living" attempt by Foma to make a paper which could be used for Bromoil (and maybe replace the original cold tone FB Variant IV 123, which was a very good lithable paper).
This one was good for both bromoil and lith printing :-).
When lithing coldtone papers, you want the "pepper" to appear. It's by far not as colourful as warmtone papers. But on the other hand not so "high contrasty", so you can get more b&w nuances from the process. Which, btw, is much slower than the warmtone lith process. Expect exposure times to be around 5 min and developing times up to or above 20 (!) min. That of course depends on your "soup".
This was perhaps too much boring information, but if I can pass the knowledge ahead to coming b&w analog printers, it's worth it :-). And I'm of course not taking credit of any knowledge that Wolfgang Moersch possesses. Almost everything I've learned comes from him. Kudos, Wolfgang.

COME AWAY WITH ME – NORAH JONES
I love the bones of you
of course I do …
I love the way those little golden flecks
dance in your smiling eyes
I love the rays of sunshine
that caress your hair and make me sigh
I love to be with you
in everything you do
to be a part of something
bigger than me; a puzzle; a clue
to piece it all together
to run away with you
to walk beneath the dappled shade
of the Jacaranda tree
the blossom hanging thick and scented
the air of love that sets me free
to lay lithe-limbed and amorous
on sprawling camomile lawns
the softness seeping into me
my eyes half-closed and stifled yawns
drowsy with this love for you
I fall asleep perchance to dream
a secret smile upon my lips
like a cat that got the cream
and as the golden hour falls
and dampens dust with jewels of dew
I linger longer than I should
to savour those few last moments with you
and in the dawn that breaks next day
I feel the warmth of early sun
and realise with joy in heart
another perfect day's begun.

These pictures from 2024 were taken on one of my best days. The Witches' Stone just at the edge of the village of Spott is a good memorial of bad times and deeds. The Witches’ Stone always fills me with commemoration and remembrance of times not so long gone when Witch Hunts were after witches so upsettingly so that we still use the term Witch Hunt now more than ever for a falsely fuelled over active hunt often with vicious entanglements and outcomes.
The Witches’ Stone is on the East of Spott village and Easter Broomhouse Standing Stone is at the West of the village. In the village at the Church you can find The Jougs. From standing stone in the East past central stone church to a commemorative stone in the West there are three superb historic lithic sites. The Church has been a focal site to inspire and to contain history of the area and along with local archives there are some superb historic collections, myriad connections, and local recollections.
There are three tall Standing Stones near Spott, Easter Broomhouse, Pencraig Hill and Kirklandhill Standing Stones. Their placement in the landscape of natural bounties and hill forts is a key to some of the smaller monuments, This coastal area is full of life from the sea and the land and the stones stretch into the sky that keeps the seas calm and the lands fertile.

Originating from the back alleys of Singapore, the Singapura is a spectacular and unique breed. I believe this "little" one here is already a mother to a few batches of kittens and it is astonishing how she managed to stay so lithe and charming. :-)
I hung around for 45 minutes, just enough for one round of the judging (hence the same pair of hands for this set). The judge was Japanese and dressed up like a cowgirl which was ... intriguing. It was great exchanging pleasantries with a number of familiar faces.
My new strategy will be to stay near the judging rings and shoot from there since for the rest of the time, the cats will be in their cages and taking photos will be rather troublesome. I will probably try a diffused flash next time round. All photos were taken without flash for this set. WB was set to AWB and on hindsight should had been set otherwise. Needed to adjust levels in PS to make the colours look "correct".

A reinterpretation of an older negative. Back in August, I uploaded a toned scan of this negative, titled Petals.
Recently, I finally made my first steps in lith printing. I wanted to experiment with the lith process for quite a long time now but never really got around to it until now.
I've had my fair share of difficulties at first, which made it a bit frustrating. Ludwig Römer was a massive help here as he answered all my questions and explained everything to me. Thanks!
Once I saw the image on this print forming, I knew all the trouble was well worth it. I'll experiment with lith printing a lot more, it offers so much!
The paper used here had a lot of white blotches all over it. All the papers in the box have them, it seems. It's also fogged which makes it unsuitable for regular development but doesn't matter for lith!

The Annual Met Gala is considered a showcase for both the "in" crowd and for the creators of the outrageous fashions that grace the red carpet. Jonelle is a bright young starlet just starting out on the road to fame and fortune, so she was invited to the Met Gala because of her starring role in a recent blockbuster film.
She was selected by Dolce & Gabbana to wear their most recent creation on the red carpet. They chose her because the silhouette of her lean, lithe body and her gorgeous face fit their design aesthetic perfectly. The theme of this creation evokes strong warrior queens of history brought into a modern avant garde look. She has the bearing of a queen as she walks the red carpet, smiling for the multitude of cameras arrayed around her as she glides past them and into the Gala.
There is a Vulcan and a Lithic Heart at the centre of the images depending which two are meeting in the middle. The Vulcan Heart is a Vulcanised Tyre Heart and the Lithic Heart is made by the Stones coming together. The reflections bring about some excellent wyrd wonders.
There is a Grass Heart and Shadow Heart too. Everyone needs Picnic Heart and a Calm Heart. Well at least I think that we all need a Picnic Heart and a Calm Heart.
[Oh yes and there is a Shadow Dove flying along the centre too, that is it is a Shadow Dove unless you see it as a young cow in which there is a Shadow Coo in the centre grazing not ascending.]
Final point to be made is a suggestion that the metal balance in some of the pictures looks very Dragon Like. Please note Dragon Like, not a Dragon, just an echo calling and falling through the seasons and over the years. Once seen the Dragon Like resemblance is an image to reflect upon especially so with Dragon Lore mentioning the sleepy long slumbers of such mythic beast. In those legendary snooze times surely there might be a little flaking and descaling as fresh ‘solid feathers’, not squalid fetters, regrow, well I am happy to suggest so.
From out the earth it came and return back into it is going.

Otters are one of our top predators, feeding mainly on fish, waterbirds, amphibians and crustaceans. Otters have their cubs in underground burrows, known as a 'holt'. Excellent and lithe swimmers, the young are in the water by 10 weeks of age. Otters are well suited to a life on the water as they have webbed feet, dense fur to keep them warm and can close their ears and nose when underwater.

Another lith re-interpretation of an older negative. I love how this one turned out, very colorful and nice tones overall!
The paper used here was ancient Revue BS 13 RC stock that was completely fogged. I couldn't even make a test strip as it would simply turn 100% black in normal developer. I ended up eyeballing/guesstimating the exposure time instead.
The print has a slight texture of microscopic black dots all over it. You can hardly see it on this upload.
I like this print much better than the direct negative scan I uploaded to Flickr a while ago.

Aunt Esther arrived. My father’s youngest sister pulled into our Wickham Road driveway. She was driving cross country by herself. As a child, growing up on the Saskatchewan prairie, she had been ill with scarlet fever, kept in bed for months. My father Max, older by six years, had been tasked by their mother to watch over her. For his whole life, he took his assignment seriously. But Esther, much to Max’s exasperation, had little use for anyone else’s direction, opinion, or protection. If he gave her unsolicited advice, she’d shake her tossle of loose curls, raise her hands in frustration and turn away. I heard my parents talking about her: Esther this and Esther that. My mother bristled at Esther’s criticism of her going along with my father too much.
Esther got out of the car. We stood along the drive to greet her. She waved away our gesture to hug hello. Instead, wearing short shorts and a sleeveless top, she did cartwheels across the front yard. Then walked on her hands back to us. No traces of sickliness in her lithe, tanned body now. I’d never seen a woman with dark hair on their legs or sprouting from their armpits. Was she a woman or a man? Something other, I decided.
#inktober2025 Day 7
From a collection of illustrated vignettes about my girlhood in Manhattan, Kansas.
Happy 2015 Everyone!!

I started riding motorcycles on a lightly-used Kawasaki Ninja 250, but a few months later I traded it in for a used Ducati Monster 620 dark, which I will always remember as a lithe nimble back road companion. My Ducati is long gone now, but I still stop to photograph them :))

A lith print ode to my Oregon friend Travis Doane.
Dear Travis,
It's now been 4 years since you sent me this treasure of old lithable papers from big USA to small Sweden. This kind act of yours sends a message to all the world - we belong together and should not fight. And for me it's a treasure of old lithable papers I would never get hold of otherwise. This day I have gone through the remaining papers and - as to my ability - have made prints that are supposed to be as streamlined as possible from a given negative. But of course there's always the influence of "human variability" when it comes to snatch point and so forth...
Anyways, I hope you understand my gratitude for this possibility. Have a great rest of the year 2023, Travis and may we have lith contact for many years to come.

TREES
What trees try to say
in their slow silence, their vague murmuring,
the sense they have, there where they are,
the reverence, the resonance, the transparency
and the bright and shadowy accents of an airy phrase.
And the shade and the leaves are the innocence of an idea
that between water and space turned itself to lithe integrity.
Beneath the magic breath of the light they are transparent boats.
I don’t know if it’s air or blood budding from their boughs.
I hear the finest foam of their green throats.
I am not, never will be, far from that pure water
and those ancient lamps of hidden isles.
What pure serenity of memory, what horizons
surrounding the silent well! It is a song in sleep
and the wind and light are the breath of a child
who upon a bough of a tree embraces the world.

I'm the flying dog
Yuki, Swedish white elkhound.
Hunting spitz, not recognised by the FCI
The Svensk vit älghund (Swedish White Elkhound) was not recognised by the Swedish KC until 1998 although the breed goes back to a litter born in 1942. The breed is an exeptionally good hunting dog mainly for elk but also for bear and lynx. The type is like the Jämthund both regarding size and proportions. Body rectangular and harmonious, lithe and with good reach of neck. The tail should be high set and carried in a loose curve over the back. The colour is white, but a shade of light yellow is tolerated. Ideal height at withers for males is 56 cm (22 inches), and for females it is 53 cm (21 inches).

The soils of the valley floor consist of the Sheppard series, Sheppard, gypsic substratum, and Torriorthents.
The Sheppard series consists of very deep, somewhat excessively drained soils that formed in eolian material derived from sandstone. Sheppard soils are on structural benches, alluvial fans, dunes on structural benches, and terraces. Slopes range from 0 to 60 percent. Mean annual precipitation is about 9 inches and the mean annual air temperature is about 54 degrees F.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Mixed, mesic Typic Torripsamments (No diagnostic features)
USE AND VEGETATION: These soils are used for livestock grazing. Potential vegetation is Mormon-tea, Indian ricegrass, galleta, and Russian thistle.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Southeast Utah, northern New Mexico, northern Arizona, and southwest Colorado. LRR D, MLRA 35. This series is of large extent.
The Sheppard, gypsic substratum phase soils are similar to Sheppard soils except they have a gypsic horizon below a depth of about 40 inches and lithic bedrock at a depth of 40 to 60 inches. Sheppard soils typically have no restrictive features within 80 inches.

Torriorthents are the dry Orthents of cool to hot, arid regions. They have an aridic (or torric) moisture regime and a temperature regime warmer than cryic. Generally, they are neutral or calcareous and are on moderate to very steep slopes. A few are on gentle slopes. Many of the gently sloping soils are on rock pediments, are very shallow, have a sandy-skeletal particle-size class, or are salty. Others are on fans where sediments are recent but have little organic carbon. The vegetation on Torriorthents commonly is sparse and consists mostly of xerophytic shrubs and ephemeral grasses and forbs. The vegetation on a few of the soils is saltgrass. Torriorthents are used mainly for grazing. They are extensive in the Western United States.

Jaxie is a lithe little young gal who is done being a mother and ready to be a star on her own. She likes to hang out with people, getting petted or just sitting near them. Although she is still fairly high energy, so won't simmer down in one place for long. She really digs the laser pointer, and likes playing with wand toys. She gets along fine with other cats, although there is a bit of extra 'diplomacy' when she deals with another female cat (she has plenty of confidence!) This pretty kitty found a new home 19 June 2016.

"The party broke up. I helped the girl into her coat. She was standing immediately in front of me, lithely moving her shoulders to receive the cloak, her head thrown back and turned aside, her lips slightly open with a smile that was meant for no one directed to the ceiling. I lowered the cloak an instant. Where had my eyes been all this time? I suddenly understood Lenz's enthusiasm."

Such a disappointment. The first Fomatone batch I bought before I really understood that this epic paper wasn't lithable anymore. Thanks for the information, Wolfgang.
But that dosen't mean that the paper is worthless, of course not.
It's still a very good warm tone FB paper, and as such, responds very well to Se toning. Which is obvious if you're looking at this one. How to get morning to look like night :-)
