I have lots of old photographic paper, like this, Ilford Ilfobrom. Some of them are still without fogging.

Have tried this paper before in Lith developer without any result.

Yesterday i had a lit session and tried again, but after 10 minutes there was nothing,

so I let it stay in the tray and took a dog walk, when I returned after more than one hour it looked like this. It look like i missed the snatch point but I was happy, The paper was Lithable…

My wife didn’t understand what it was until I explained, it’s our boat at the marina and B21 is at the edge of the bridge. But she looked at me as if I was crazy :-)

Three images, merged,

Its not often one gets this close to an active volcano

Stromboli is a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, containing one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. It is one of the eight Aeolian Islands, a volcanic arc north of Sicily.

924 m (3,031 ft), rises over 2,000 m (6,500 ft) above the sea floor.

Mt. Stromboli has been in almost continuous eruption for the past 2000 years. A pattern of eruption is maintained in which explosions occur at the summit craters with mild to moderate eruptions of incandescent volcanic bombs at intervals ranging from minutes to hours. This Strombolian eruption as it is known is also observed at other volcanoes worldwide. Eruptions from the summit craters typically result in a few short-lasting mild but energetic bursts ranging up to a few hundred meters in height containing ash, incandescent lava fragments and lithic blocks. Mt. Stromboli's activity is almost exclusively explosive, but lava flows do occur at times when volcanic activity is high: an effusive eruption in 2002, the first in 17 years, occurred again in 2003 and 2007.

I much prefer this lith print over my original upload which was simply a direct negative scan. This print has such a heavy, dramatic look to it and fits the subject much better, I believe.

Skara Brae on Orkney is prehistoric gem. Semi-Subterranean houses and workshops make up the site as it stands today. It is an impressive site much visited and intricately studied as it offers to reveal how prehistoric people lived. The site is said to be built into the community midden, or rubbish dump. The soft midden can be shaped and moulded with stones fitting in the voids to make a very safe stable environment for living and working in. Skara Brae is vaunted as the most complete Neolithic Village in Europe. House 5 as labelled in this picture has had a drain and still shows stone furnishings looking like lithic versions of kitchen dressers, a central hearth and a window too. This once inland village is now perilously close to the sea and needs sea defences to maintain the structure from destruction by wind and sea. It was rediscovered in 1850 after a storm uncovered part of the structure.

April 2017. When Fomatone was real Fomatone and you didn't have to question its lithability.

Adox CMS 20 (well, that's also a blast from the past, as this (extremely) high resolution film never will be produced as a 120 medium format film again), developed in Adox Adotech II (a specially made developer for this film, said to bring out a resolution equivalent to a 500 MP digital sensor).

Printed on Fomatone MG 132 18x24 cm and developed in Moersch Easy Lith. I don't have a record of using Lith Omega here, but I must have(?). If I didn't, the performance of this paper surpasses everything available in these days when it comes to lith printing.

What you see is part of a cut of a massive pine trunk (diameter > 60 cm) lying to rest and dry.

All the written information and some superb details in these pictures bring the village of Skara Brae to life in our modern era through the excavations of 1850 and onwards, 1928-1931 and the 1970s. From 1850 the dwellings and significant finds have been opened up. In the picture captioned, “Director of excavations at Skara Brae, Gordon Childe, emerges from a trench...” there looks to be a Kodak Brownie Box Camera to the right of the picture. The Brownie produced square pictures at two and a quarter inch size on No. 117 Roll Film. Brownie’s and other 117 Roll Film Cameras although some are made out of cardboard designed for limited use they can still produce good images today with some slight adjustments.

This is a contribution to the debate concerning what papers are lithable in this modern time (or not).

There was no debate back then, and back then in this case is 2010. All Fomatones were perfectly lithable, and lith Omega wasn't available (or certainly not needed).

So if I ask you: Was it better in the "old days"?

You've probably already guessed my answer...

Apocalypse Now.

Monte Catequilla (in the middle of the picture) is translated from Quechua to mean "follower of the moon". Its construction, circa 800 AD, is attributed to the Quitu-Cara culture. The site consists of a semicircular wall, 107 metres (351 ft) in length with a diameter of 68 metres (223 ft), although no clear architectural features accurately show the exact positions of its ends. It leans toward the east end south sides with at an azimuth of 113 degrees, and declines on the western end to the north side, with an azimuth of 293 degrees. The wall height varies between 25 centimetres (9.8 in) and 1.2 metres (3 ft 11 in), but based on the broken material beside it, the wall could have been more than 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) high. In the northwest of the site, there is a lithic disk (a circular stone-filled platform) 8 metres (26 ft) in diameter, consisting mainly of stone masonry. It has three lines of stones. Situated on a hill, there was a water source at the site at one time.

Along with the stone-filled circles of Jarata and Pacpo to the south, it forms a straight line along which the shade from the mountains falls during the June solstice. While many of the indigenous people today believe that the purpose of these circles was to provide a solid flat surface for the threshing of wheat and other cereals, several astronomic and geodetic alignments have been detected, questioning the validity of this theory. After several archaeological excavations by Oswaldo Tovar, many ceramics were unearthed from Incan and colonial times. Though the site is virtually abandoned, nearby mining operations in the area could jeopardize its integrity. Even so, the government has taken no action.[6] As it is located on the equator, it is said to be in the "Middle of the World". As of 2011, it is said to be "the only important pre-Inca site in Ecuador to have been commercially exploited."

The Inca pucara (stone fortress) of Rumicucho is located about 1,550 metres (5,090 ft) north of Catequilla.

A laugh in the night, a clicking of hooves, and suddenly you are face to face with a red monster with a matching glowing eye. Two black curved horns adorn her head, which shine in the street lights. The creature treads forward, smirking, and you ponder if someone with one eye can wink because you swear she just did. Her lithe tail flicks playfully, the creature’s eye still affixed on you. You wonder if she is a demon of the night or just has a really bad sunburn.

On the cusp of night, with the sun fallen behind the western peaks, a few hints of warmer light remain among darkening hues on the lithe, sinuous dune forms at Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California.

It was an amazing evening on the dunes. Josh, Sky and I hiked out under bluebird skies through the strange arrowweed clumps in the Devil's Cornfield. Reaching the dunes, we wandered a while before settling in more as sunset drew closer. It was calm and almost soundless. Perfect mental recharge conditions before we had to head home and back to the workaday world.

Then, abruptly, a wind arose. Sand grains rustled and shifted like a nervous crowd, before taking flight in endless streams, whipping up over the dune ridges and vigorously working to erase the traces of all who had come before. The wind strengthened further, inverse to the waning light. We braced ourselves against the frequent more-forceful gusts, and we brushed off our tightly-zipped camera bags every few minutes lest they be covered completely--but sand still found a way inside everything.

Changing lenses was out of the question for the rest of evening, so the long lens it was for me. The massive flows of blowing sand didn't show up at all in these telephoto long exposures, except to provide a bit of extra glowing softness along the dune ridges. Such an interesting contrast in my mind between this peaceful image and the great turbulence in full effect when I took the shot.

These pictures from 2024 were taken on one of my best days. The Witches' Stone just at the edge of the village of Spott is a good memorial of bad times and deeds. The Witches’ Stone always fills me with commemoration and remembrance of times not so long gone when Witch Hunts were after witches so upsettingly so that we still use the term Witch Hunt now more than ever for a falsely fuelled over active hunt often with vicious entanglements and outcomes.

The Witches’ Stone is on the East of Spott village and Easter Broomhouse Standing Stone is at the West of the village. In the village at the Church you can find The Jougs. From standing stone in the East past central stone church to a commemorative stone in the West there are three superb historic lithic sites. The Church has been a focal site to inspire and to contain history of the area and along with local archives there are some superb historic collections, myriad connections, and local recollections.

There are three tall Standing Stones near Spott, Easter Broomhouse, Pencraig Hill and Kirklandhill Standing Stones. Their placement in the landscape of natural bounties and hill forts is a key to some of the smaller monuments, This coastal area is full of life from the sea and the land and the stones stretch into the sky that keeps the seas calm and the lands fertile.

SHE dreams of Love upon the temple stair,—

About her feet the lithe green lizards play

In all the drowsy, warm, Sicilian air.

The winds have loosed the fillet from her hair,

Sea winds, salt-lipped, that laugh and seem to say, 5

“She dreams of Love, upon the temple stair.

“Then let us twine soft fingers, here and there,

Amid the gleaming threads that drift and stray

In all the drowsy, warm, Sicilian air,

“And let us weave of them a subtle snare 10

To cast about and bind her, as to-day

She dreams of Love, upon the temple stair.”

Alas, the madcap winds,—how much they dare!

They wove the web, and in their wanton way,

In all the drowsy, Sicilian air, 15

They bound her sleeping, in her own bright hair.

And as she slept came Love—and passed away,—

She dreams of Love, upon the temple stair,

In all the drowsy, warm, Sicilian air.

Featuring Idealia's Kaly Necklace, Stealthic's Lithe, and Candy Doll's Sugga Dress.

Squeek reminds me very much of a human counterpart- David Hyde Pierce's character on the T.V. series, 'Frasier'. David played the character, 'Niles Crane', who was smart, very slim and lithe, and also, very, very shy. This is little Squeek to a 'T'!

The Akapana pyramid (built at different times) is composed of seven platforms. The wall of the first platform is covered with finely carved pilasters and has its main across to the west, where a chachapuma (on display in the Lithic Museum) was recovered. It has a 194 by 194 meter quadrangular floor and is 15.70 meter high. It was intensively used in the Late Tiwanaku IV period and was gradually abandoned.

I used a 5 year old pinhole negative to make this 25x40cm Lith print on Fomatone paper, using Moersch EasyLith SE to avoid the dreaded snowball effect. Unfortunately, the newer versions of this paper are not litheable anymore since the last changes end of last year, which apparently means there are no lith papers in production at the moment right now. I do hope I'm wrong....Fortunately I do have a substantial stock of older papers for lith printing, but not in the 40x50cm size I'd like to use for an upcoming exhibition. Well, let's see....

I realised yesterday that in my haste to process the photos of more exciting animals I had completely forgotten my beloved little Tommies! They are simply put the cutest animals in the savannah and I feel heartbroken every time I see a predator take one of them down. Lithe, nimble and super quick these Thomson’s Gazelles often outrun the cheetah with their wicked manoeuvrability ; twisting and turning endlessly. If you notice them closely you would see that their tails NEVER stop wagging. Seriously! Watch a few videos and tell me I am wrong.

I am back to my beloved Amboseli landscapes after spending quite some time at Ol Pejeta and Mount Kenya. I might stay here for a few more images. I know I am talking like I physically made the journey, but in some ways coming back to an image in the Amboseli feels like coming back home – this is where all my adventures began and this is where I discovered that to be at one with the wild is the most peaceful feeling of all.

An experiment with Lith E instead of Lith D. The deep shadows become blacker, the contrast increases enormously. However, Lith E reduces the colourfulness, which was not desired for this image. So a second developer is necessary to increase the colourfulness and to bring out the tonal values of the highlights.

I am home near Edinburgh having been on a tour of Aberdeenshire taking in Stone Circles and Pictish Symbol Stones along with other lithic monuments and also enjoying the locality in finding whatever happenstance could bring. My memories are criss crossed in heavenly glimmering and my visions are still stellar shimmering. On one memory card there are just five images, from them here are three pictures and each photograph here has been edited to have a second version with the look of a painting. I have been editing these images in an ever darkening and darkened room and I may not like these results tomorrow in daylight. This day has ended and also tomorrow and tomorrow will end too. Some of these day to come might involve finding out where our ancestors chose to make their wondrous places and enduring spaces. Some of the days to come could be recovery and edit days like today where I could have done with more natural illumination, but the Sun waits not and it goes making monumental displays for those fortunate to be enjoying the sun setting rays.
