A Moment of hail, sun , rain , snow, Standard Faroe Islands.

People called it a "fogbow" - the rainbow that occurs as sunlight passes through the the misty droplets of the forest fog.

Oh Well...

I can always count on having the best possible conditions for photography, when I'm on the road and in a hurry, and not really able to shoot. Yesterday I made the trip to Tucson. It was a good 4 or 5 hour drive in the big, slow, motorhome. The whole time, a storm was following me and there were these fantastic stormclouds, and lightrays. I wanted so bad to go somewhere and shoot, but the motorhome isn't exactly the most maneuverable thing. I finally saw this and had to jam on the brakes and set up the tripod on the side of the highway to get a shot.

This shot is of Great Keppel Island which is located off the coast of Central Queensland Australia. Great Keppel Island and the surrounding islands are in an area which makes up part of the Southern Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

It was amazing to watch this scene unfold. The light rays were moving along the ridges very quickly due to the high winds from the hurricane moving the clouds. From start to finish the light show lasted for about an hour. It was by far one of the best displays of light I have seen.

Okay now that I am getting closer to refining this effect, I will be driving everyone crazy......... I have been striving for a diffused lighting for the highlights and i think i have stumbled on a 3rd party filter that produces the effect I want. It's a very subtle effect, barely noticeable by most, but I notice it.

Once again, the picture of the car was not taken (by a camera, that is) by me. Actually taken off the internet. Hope I don't get sued - but why should I. I'm not selling these pictures............yet!

Hope you enjoy..........

Unforgettable moments out in the wild remind me of how important it is to experience and seek. Reach out of my comfort zone, and push myself into the natural beauty of the world around me. In these moments I realize that I am just one small part.

Argentina has gifts beyond measure, arguably the untamed southern hemisphere of South America contains the most remote and undiscovered areas on the planet. The Chilean cost is simply inaccessible, but some of the parts that we are able to reach will share untold beauty if patience is a virtue.

Winter's Call - Blue Ridge Mountains Asheville NC Scenic Light Rays Landscape Photography

Late autumn light rays over the mountains along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, NC. Saw a pretty good light show while out with a private workshop towards the end of November, and although the fall foliage had pretty much already taken its last breath, there were still plenty of beautiful sights to see. Hope you enjoy the view!

we were at the end of Conkle's Hollow in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio, taking our turn at these falls and i was set up about a foot off the ground for the perspective desired, when I saw the refraction on my viewer. So with a little moving around the angle of the lens to the sun I was able to get the full spectrum of color.

The fog over Brisbane last Friday was just amazing. This was taken at Wellington Point. It was eerie but wonderful at the same time.

Morning rain and storms hit Brisbane and much of South-East QLD during Friday morning which allowed for low level moisture to linger for much of the day as it became trapped under thick cloud and wasn’t allowed to evaporate. As the day progressed, the sun struggled to peak through and this allowed the second chain in the process to occur and that was cold temperatures. Brisbane experienced its coldest day in 3 years yesterday and it doesn’t matter if it wasn’t cold in reality… for the region, it was. The increased moisture caused by showers in the atmosphere allowed for the third chain in the process to occur and thats where the increased moisture mixing with cooler temperatures and surface humidity allows clouds to descend and act as fog.

I would like to believe that there is a better place, one of such incommensurate purity and grace that one could find oneself Dancing with Angels for a moment of eternity.

What do you think?

Rays of light burst though the clouds as a west bound manifest waits for an east bound to clear before heading towards the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel.

Not only must this train wait for the opposing train to clear, but also for the extract fans to clear the tunnel of exhaust gasses.

Taken from E Portal Road.

For 45 seconds the most amazing light burst through the fog to display this forest scene. As fast as it came it was gone. Bays Mountain.

This explains my Alaska addiction. Tundra in autumn is spectacular. Can you spot the glacier?

This is a 6-shot panorama taken in an intense wind as the light constantly changed. It was in the low 40s and I could barely stand up. Anytime I can wear a parka around Labor Day is my kind of perfect! :D

Taken towards the end of November during a hike up Catbells. Had to wait a while for the light, but it was worth it.

Waiting, waiting, waiting and then this happened. The sun rose above the headland turning the sea vibrant orange.

I love this scene from the halo around the sunburst to the spray coming off the top of the wave. Beyond that is the surreal amber mist rising above Blackstone rocks like I’ve never seen before.

This scene was so impressive in person. The sun was cutting through the fog and trees....I tried to capture the moment, but I don’t feel the image does it justice.

Traveling on Interstate 5 headed for Frazier Park. Not to shabby for a drive by.

mystery woman emerges from the darkness, heading towards the light.

Incredible Crepuscular rays greeted me as I made myself comfortable on the cliff overlooking the cove.

They stayed just long enough for me to throw on a circular polariser before the clouds blew away and the rays faded. The sunset that followed was stunning.
