Here's another light show from the redwoods last June. I think I might like this the best of the bunch. It's tricky with a wide angle lens and all those straight trees. I like the way the centered tree provides a vertical line.
See the one in the background as well? I used The Photographer's Ephemeris (TPE) to predict when the sun would be high enough to catch the sun rays streaming into the cave.
Location? Southern California. It'll be in the guidebook! ;)
Update: It's covered on page 256 of my guidebook: "Photographing California Vol. 2 - South, A guide to the natural landmarks of the Golden State".
This view is from one of the easternmost observation points in the park, rather late in the evening.
Another misty start here in Somerset, so I popped down to the woods after the school run and was delighted to find some misty rays of light still beaming through the trees.
Not much Autumn colour to speak of yet, though.
Late evening rays of light manifest in a plume of mist near Sol Duc Falls. Always nice when light and water work together to create someting new.
Image with my Hasselblad 500cm.
Light rays in the very popular Antelope Canyon. I couldn't believe how crowded this place was. You really can't tell from the picture, as the photo guides do their best to move people along, but it was truly like herding cattle in these narrow canyons.

Of the myriad of reason to shoot RAW, my absolute favorite is this: As time goes on you will become a better photographer. Along with that you will become a better editor. Not only that, but the systems and processes you use will become better as well. Shoot RAW, use Lightroom (or any non-destructive workflow tool) and YEARS later you can revisit your "negatives" as if you shot them yesterday.
Shot discipline is more important than processing. You can always fix the processing later as long as you nail the mechanics of the capture. That means know your camera. Some cameras handle highlight data better than shadows. Some shadows better than highlights. Expose so your camera is capture the most dynamic range possible.

I was driving down a country road with my family last night and saw how the light was interacting with the clouds. I made mention of this and my family wasn't surprised by the fact that I pulled over and hopped out of the car to capture this rural scene in Northwest Ohio. The light combined with the fields of wheat and an old barn that has fallen into disrepair just provided a nice foreground to the clouds and sky. This image is an HDR composite that exposed for the sky and then for the foreground combining these in post.
Memento Mori - Blue Ridge Mountains Asheville NC Scenic Autumn Landscape Photography
Warm autumn light rays over mountain valleys filled with vibrant autumn colors in the mountains along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, NC. We were lucky enough to get some beautiful light rays over the fall colors during one of my autumn landscape workshops recently, and what a memorable experience with such a great group of folks it was. Remember to make the most of every day y'all, and hope you enjoy the view!

I have been experimenting with different processing techniques. I rather like the dramatic effect on this one.
Stars and Stripes - North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway Scenic Landscape in Autumn
I'm already missing the vibrant colors of autumn in the mountains, when spectacular scenic landscapes just seem to be commonplace along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I shot this image last October during my annual Autumn Landscapes photography workshop, we had such a great group of folks and were treated to some amazing scenes, good times indeed! The 2017 workshop schedule is now posted on my website, reserve your spot today if you'd like to shoot scenes like this with us this year. Hope you enjoy the view!

maybe it's strange
i've barely made a sound for 24 hours
what's to say
the poison inside is useless to everyone
but i know one day i'll find a new light
and i'll take the sickness and bury it down
every moment, every second should be precious understand
that i don't know how to live at all
and maybe i'll change
start a sick cult on a mysterious island
run away and tell the whole world
there's amber in all of us
but i know one day i'll find a new light
and i'll take the sickness and bury it down
every moment, every second should be precious understand
that i don't know how to live without you
without you

It's actually quite embarrassing for me to admit this. I've now been living on this farm here in Gouna for 10 months, and yesterday was the first time that I noticed this composition... less than 300 metres from my front door!?
Of course I've explored this garden many times before, but this particular view has always been obstructed by lots of tall vegetation in the foreground. The sky was looking quite impressive yesterday afternoon, so I decided to explore this part of the garden with my camera once more. When I reached this corner of the (fenced-off) garden I noticed a gate. And lo and behold... just outside the gate I noticed a small elevated ledge right at the edge of the cliff... with no troublesome plants blocking my foreground.
There were lots of dark clouds (as you can see), so most of the time the sun was hidden behind a cloud and the foreground was completely dark. I knew exactly what I wanted from the light... but would it provide what I was after? Weather-photography can be so hit-and-miss! As you can see in this photo... mother Nature did provide me with exactly what I was looking for... at exactly the right moment! Lucky me?
P.S. This is not a sun-star photo... these are light-rays. ;)
From the other day. I loved how free I felt. And the dust particles near my face make me smile.
I'm sorry that I haven't been commenting on streams. I've been loaded with homework. I've been hanging out a lot with friends as well and on the weekends I work. I will catch up with everyone eventually. I promise.
