Oh Well...

I can always count on having the best possible conditions for photography, when I'm on the road and in a hurry, and not really able to shoot. Yesterday I made the trip to Tucson. It was a good 4 or 5 hour drive in the big, slow, motorhome. The whole time, a storm was following me and there were these fantastic stormclouds, and lightrays. I wanted so bad to go somewhere and shoot, but the motorhome isn't exactly the most maneuverable thing. I finally saw this and had to jam on the brakes and set up the tripod on the side of the highway to get a shot.

Yesterday morning I had company for my morning walk in the forest, which leads to much nicer pictures. Sony FE 85mm 1.4 GM on Sony A7rII. More from this series to come.

Okay now that I am getting closer to refining this effect, I will be driving everyone crazy......... I have been striving for a diffused lighting for the highlights and i think i have stumbled on a 3rd party filter that produces the effect I want. It's a very subtle effect, barely noticeable by most, but I notice it.

Once again, the picture of the car was not taken (by a camera, that is) by me. Actually taken off the internet. Hope I don't get sued - but why should I. I'm not selling these pictures............yet!

Hope you enjoy..........

This is the scene that was unfolding to the west as I made my way back from Redding to the Sacramento area a few weeks ago. I happened to have my gear, so I bolted down a farm rd and tried to find an unobstructed view of this awesome light display. Boring foreground, but better than electrical lines and houses. I have another shot with a cool looking fence in the fg that I will share as well. This is is a croporama to show more of the light striking the coastal mountains. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!

Unforgettable moments out in the wild remind me of how important it is to experience and seek. Reach out of my comfort zone, and push myself into the natural beauty of the world around me. In these moments I realize that I am just one small part.

Argentina has gifts beyond measure, arguably the untamed southern hemisphere of South America contains the most remote and undiscovered areas on the planet. The Chilean cost is simply inaccessible, but some of the parts that we are able to reach will share untold beauty if patience is a virtue.

This explains my Alaska addiction. Tundra in autumn is spectacular. Can you spot the glacier?

This is a 6-shot panorama taken in an intense wind as the light constantly changed. It was in the low 40s and I could barely stand up. Anytime I can wear a parka around Labor Day is my kind of perfect! :D

Atmosphere - Great Smoky Mountains National Park Scenic Landscape Gatlinburg TN

Just finished up our Spring in the Smokies workshops and saw some great scenes this year! There were a lot of thunderstorms in the Southern Appalachian Mountains this past week, providing some great conditions and light at some of the classic spots between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC. I hope you enjoy the view!

The stove you can see on the right is "guilty" of creating these shafts of light - it produces a lot of smoke and makes the rays visible in the sunlight.

Paid a second visit to Dunwich Forest after the Heath on Saturday, the dense canopy is great for little pools of light like this one.

Winter's Call - Blue Ridge Mountains Asheville NC Scenic Light Rays Landscape Photography

Late autumn light rays over the mountains along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, NC. Saw a pretty good light show while out with a private workshop towards the end of November, and although the fall foliage had pretty much already taken its last breath, there were still plenty of beautiful sights to see. Hope you enjoy the view!

For 45 seconds the most amazing light burst through the fog to display this forest scene. As fast as it came it was gone. Bays Mountain.

I would like to believe that there is a better place, one of such incommensurate purity and grace that one could find oneself Dancing with Angels for a moment of eternity.
