Another picture of this years trip to Glacier National Park. Beeing stuck without a backcountry permits for a several days we opted for some day hikes. This one leads to to a viewpoint called Scenic Point where we were supposed to arrive at sunset time. But the mist from the nearby fires (the cause of the denied backcountry permits) resulted in such bad light that we did not see the sun set at all. So here we have a high contrast scene without too much color half way up the mountain.

Below is Two Medicine Lake with Sinopah Mouintain (we hiked up the continental devide in the valley left of it the next day) at it's head while Rising Wolf Mountain dominates the right part of the frame. The spectacular scenery makes up for the poor light.

This one's a few years old and was taken during an afternoon of exploring some of the coastal forests in southern Oregon: Nothing Earth-shattering here, but I felt like my portfolio didn't accurately represent just how time I had spent in these sort of landscapes. In other words, I'm going to mix in a little more green into my photostream over the coming months.

Thanks for looking!

My technique is alway the same:

Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...

DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

My GETTY IMAGES work

This picture was taken in some old fortress ruins in the swedish town of Västervik.

The idea I had for this picture was to give it that moody, mystical and magical feel. I wanted to give it the appearance of some ruins residing in some mystical fairyland or enchanted woods of some sort.

I changed the colors and tone using a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop adjustments and added some light rays in Photoshop.

So the light really didn't suck in Alaska... and Fuji kicks some serious a** in the color department. I have to say that I've been constantly impressed by the Raw files coming out of this camera. This was taken near Skagway as we sailed south during sunset.

Catharsis (from the Greek κάθαρσις) is the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from strong or repressed emotions. It was originally used metaphorically by Aristotle in the Poetics, to compare the effects of tragedy on the mind of a spectator to the effect of a cathartic on the body, i.e., the purification and cleansing of emotions, particularly those of pity and fear.

The photo was captured in mid-January 2019, during peak flow at Chantara waterfalls in Troodos Mountains, Cyprus. The extraordinary wet season that we are experiencing this year brought back to life all the ephemeral rivers, but also revealed the dead bodies of seven poor women murdered by a serial killer between 2016 and 2018, that were then dumped at an abandoned mineshaft and nearby mine lakes. It’s the first time that such a crime is recorded in Cyprus and shocked the society. What this event has to do with the photo? Well, the suspect is literally “one of us” – a keen photographer and also a member of the Flickr community that no one would have thought of committing such horrible actions. Catharsis is the only word that I could think of as a remedy to these tragic events.

Technical details for those interested: Single shot captured with Nikon D750 and Nikon 14-24 mm f/2.8. Framed at 18 mm and exposed for 1s at f/8 and ISO 100, using a Lee 6-stop ND filter. Special thanks to my good friend Ole Henrik Skjelstad for his valuable editing suggestions.

Tell me darling,

who stole the light from

your soul?

I see the way you hold yourself

so

tightly,

(maybe you are afraid

you will float away.)

You are a building,

standing so tall

but a single word

would

demolish

you.
