The tree stands tall, but not in solitude – in silent watch. I wonder which came first: the tree or the house? I know who will have the last word. The Fog.
To witness such an incredible array of light coming through a fog and into a forest is almost a life changing experience. Watching it in a redwood forest is a life changing experience.
California redwood trees are massive. The average age of a redwood tree is 800-900 years old but there are some that are over 2000 years old.
The coast redwood is known to have reached 115.5 meters or 379 feet tall with a trunk diameter of 9 m (30 ft).

I want to keep my stream diverse so this will be the last sun ray photo for a few weeks. I have many more beauties but will keep them for later on :-)
Sunset over the Rocky Mountains near Divide Colorado. We saw this in the rear view mirror coming home after a great day 4 wheeling in the mountains...needless to say I had to stop and take a couple shots!

I was out searching for an old ruin, with view to do a future star trail. Turned out to be a wild goose chase, but the fog rolled in and then the sun broke through..

Let Your Light Shine - North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway Mountain Landscape Craggy Gardens Asheville NC
Late afternoon light rays over the southern Appalachian Mountains from Craggy Gardens along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC. The area around Asheville in the Southern Appalachian Mountains is an amazing place to get out and hike during the spring bloom in early June, when frequent thunderstorms provide dramatic skies and lighting, and summer blooms can be found hiding almost everywhere. Hope you enjoy the view!

Center Stage - Rough Ridge North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway Autumn Light Rays Scenic Mountains Landscape
Early autumn colors and an intense light ray show seen from Rough Ridge along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain. If you look closely you can see the famous Linn Cove Viaduct as it wraps around the side of Grandfather Mountain. I hope you enjoy the view!

Another view from the top of High Wheeldon, quite similar to the last shot i posted from this location but the dramatic light was too good to ignore. Sony A7II/16-35mm.

The wonderful lines of horse chestnut trees inevitably are going to be stripped of there conkers and leaves by the Autumn winds and scattered along the lane
Not quite sure what to make of this one. I'm not really a 'mushroom photographer' so this is kind of new territory for me. On the other hand, I am a light ray photographer and those can still be seen in the background :p.
Anyways, I'm afraid I've missed the best part of Fall 2012 due to travels and bad weather but I'll try to go out this weekend to see if there is anything left to capture. In the meantime I've been busy preparing the garden for the upcoming winter. I have some "cool" (yet difficult) new ideas to try out of which I'm sure you'll see more of in a couple of weeks.
A view from the top of High Wheeldon looking towards Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill on a day when the light was changing by the minute. Sony A7II/16-35mm.

A small change of pace from the Fall foliage photographs I've been uploading.
We went north on Route 430 yesterday looking for some Autumn color to shoot, but there's hardly anything left up that way. When we left home in Corner Brook it was 18C. A beautiful day. But we weren't out of the valley before it got extremely foggy and the temperature dropped to 9C. After we came down on the other side of the Mountains in Gros Morne, though, it did get sunny and warm again.
By the time we made our way back down off the Northern Peninsula, on the way home, the fog we had encountered earlier was gone, but it had almost completely clouded over. Except for a large hole out over the ocean where some really neat crepuscular rays were shining through. We were in the vicinity of the Lobster Cove head lighthouse near Rocky Harbour, so I decided to make a small detour ... hoping that we would make it in time before the light rays had disappeared ... and that it would be possible to get the rays and the lighthouse in the same shot.
From the parking lot there's a short walk out to the lighthouse and by the time I got there and got myself oriented to shoot, it was like someone had turned a switch and the light rays just disappeared! We waited around for awhile and the light show did return ... not quite as good and along with four tourists who sort of got in the way of the shot I wanted. Anyway, I did manage to get a few useable images.
Light rays highlight the beginning of the North Cascade mountains leading up to the majestic Mt. Baker.

Edited with Picasa, those light rays are real.
My next uploads could well be proud Dad images, the baby is almost overdue, so one way or another he/she will be with us within a week. I'll try to go easy on the cliche cute baby shots ;-)
