Isn't the world heavenly?

Circular Polarizer.. my new friend.

This has to be one of my favourite Damselfly photos I’ve taken this season.

‘In the Spotlight’

Laying in the wet grass is becoming a very familiar pastime photographing these dainty little Damselflies. I may take up yoga with all the peculiar contorted body shapes I create to frame a shot. It’s not exactly a cool Vogue ‘Strike a Pose’ moment.‍♂️

I’m very happy with the way this one turned out.

*The timing, precision and patience is so important to achieve an image like this and the enjoyment of course*

Techy info.

Controlling the exposure was tricky shooting directly into the sun with the limitations of the camera shooting at 1/8000s at iso50. Unexpectedly the damselfly actually flapped it’s wings at high speed for a split second. I was able to capture them without blurring because of such a high shutter speed. I must admit I was lucky🍀 because I wouldn’t normally shoot a still object with these settings but was forced to in such bright light trying to control the exposure.

The image on the screen of the camera looked very overexposed but it’s amazing the detail you can recover shooting in raw format. In post processing I moved the highlights slider all the way to the left and the wings surprisingly appeared. I looked at the sequence of shots hoping for one with splashes of dew flying off the hovering wings. Now that would have been special!

Light rays on wall

Gary and I ventured out in our truck camper in September to California's North Coast Redwoods. It is calming to walk among these giants who have stood together these last thousands of years. Our troubles today are nothing to them — a bleep in time. You can read more about our road trip in our cocoon in my blog. charlottegibbblog.com/road-trip-a-photographic-journey-th...

A little injection of colour for my photostream, lets be honest, it is needed!

It is hard to get colourful images in the depths of an Irish winter so this is one from earlier in 2015.

I hope there are many more cloudless, crisp, glorious starts to the day like that one was in 2016.

Thank you one and all for all the love for this image, I really appreciate every comment and fav :-)

In The Beginning - Forest Road Light Rays Blue Ridge Parkway North Carolina Scenic Outdoors Photography

Golden sunlight filters through the forest canopy highlighting the morning fog along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Western North Carolina on an early summer morning. You just know it's going to be a good day when you're morning starts out with a beautiful scene like this one, and it's a welcome reminder that it isn't always about the destination, sometimes the journey itself is the best part. I hope you enjoy the view!

This is a picture from the archipelago on the island of Bullerö, Stockholm. Bullerö is a nature reserve and consists of three islands. I and my family did a day trip with an old people carrier boat with a guide. One of the stops was at the island Bullerö. The picture is taken of the hunting cabin situated in "Rävängen". You can find more about Bullerö nature reserve in the link below.

The tree stands tall, but not in solitude – in silent watch. I wonder which came first: the tree or the house? I know who will have the last word. The Fog.

To witness such an incredible array of light coming through a fog and into a forest is almost a life changing experience. Watching it in a redwood forest is a life changing experience.

California redwood trees are massive. The average age of a redwood tree is 800-900 years old but there are some that are over 2000 years old.

The coast redwood is known to have reached 115.5 meters or 379 feet tall with a trunk diameter of 9 m (30 ft).

I was out searching for an old ruin, with view to do a future star trail. Turned out to be a wild goose chase, but the fog rolled in and then the sun broke through..

Let Your Light Shine - North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway Mountain Landscape Craggy Gardens Asheville NC

Late afternoon light rays over the southern Appalachian Mountains from Craggy Gardens along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC. The area around Asheville in the Southern Appalachian Mountains is an amazing place to get out and hike during the spring bloom in early June, when frequent thunderstorms provide dramatic skies and lighting, and summer blooms can be found hiding almost everywhere. Hope you enjoy the view!
