After a short drive to an open spot Tomaz.365 and I setup our gear.

We are on a parking lot with an open view and two power lines nearby.

It's a hit right away and the first lightningflash is captured on photo.

In the distance is a bright lightningflash, on our left a loud scream, followed immediately by its echo on the right of us...

I clap my hands, but there is no echo...

Again a lightning flash and again a roar, first left, then right at us.

Tomaz.365 and I look at each other and we slowly start to understand it.

The lightning struck the power lines, making its electrical power scream as it surges through the power lines, one on the left and one on our right.

lightning shot with my homemade lightningtrigger during storm chase [8mm] [lightningtrigger]

This is a composite of 3 separate photos of lightning strikes taken from my front porch.

This thunderstorm killed 2 people in a light plane and delivered over 20,000 ground-based strikes. Lightning was more than two bolts per second!

This strike occured in the Sept storm here in Brisbane.

Tto be honest the picture was a bit of a failure as it was totally overexposed but I've done my best to haul it back to something useable.

Lightning Rotterdam

Saw a lightning storm, so I took my metal tripod and camera out on my balcony and taking random slow shutter snaps caught this lovely lightning bolt.

Photographing a lightning storm is not safe. Haven't felt brave or careless enough to try that since this was taken.

I took about a dozen long exposures before I finally caught some lightning. Not the best composition, but I'm still happy I captured the moment.

I used a cable release when doing these. I'm going to wire up a radio trigger next time - less chance of getting zapped that way.

... as dark clouds slowly drifted in, the sky became darker and darker. at first it just looked like a heavy raincloud, but as the front came closer you suddenly could see the lightning flashes behind this first cloud.

flashes every 5 seconds, most of them inside the higher clouds, suddenly a gust of wind and the rain started, more and more lightning flashes became visible and reached out of the clouds.

My first ever successful lightning photo (12Feb08)

Lightning and her sword

Unexpected lightning storm just passed through east of me. No rain, but windy.

I used my new Nero trigger to capture these. Once I got it set up, it worked without a flaw.

Awesome! The Lightning Preservation Group's fabulous BAC Lightning F6 XS 904, seen readying itself for another high speed taxi down Bruntingthorpe's runway. Photo taken at the LPG's open day in September 2007.

Ear plugs essential!! But it was like going back 20-30 years, with all those memories of great days watching them for real at Binbrook when I was a kid. Me and my school friends would often cycle up there from Grimsby, whenever we could!

Lightning storm after we left Snoqualmie Falls. This storm went on for so long, and we pretty much drove right through it. it was beautiful to watch. I'd never seen one so spectacular before.

207 squadron's F-35B Lightning II ZM157 departs the crowdline at RIAT.

Like I mentioned on the other photo, I've been working with some post-processing techniques that bring out colors in dark photos. This photo is entirely lit by ambient moon light, lighting from the clouds, and lightning bugs.

This shot is post-processed and I blogged about it here
