It started to storm while we were out there...and I totally caught lightning in the shot! :D I was pleasantly surprised.
A rare lightning storm blew through town last night. Here in the Portland Oregon Metro, lightning storms are rare, but we have had 2 in the last 2 weeks. capturing lightning, as you most likely know, is a game of patience and making sure you don't get zapped. We have an upstairs window which doesn't have a screen, so I opened it up and setup my camera with my RF 35mm and put it in manual, shooting at a very dark f/18, 30 second exposure and ISO400. This way the shot wouldn't be completely blown out when I got lucky enough to capture a bolt in frame. This is a heavy crop with some tweaking in Lightroom to get some more definition in the clouds and bring out the lightning some more.
This is the first time I have ever taken photos of lightning so I am very pleased with the results, although they are very blue? It was 02.30-03.30am so I was half asleep at the time. The lightening was over Manchester so quite low on the horizon.
Captured overlooking Martlesham Heath in Suffolk during an all night moth survey. It was truly spectacular!

This is my first attempt at capturing lightning. Bear in mind this was 1:00 AM, after being awakened by a long, lightning storm. Luckily there was no rain.

There was an unusual amount of lightning during this thunderstorm. The center of the storm was at least 40 km away.
Intense lightning in just 60 seconds. This original over exposed image was adjusted in Photoshop by reducing the exposure by 5 f-stops. Pink backlights are the result of Cheyenne city lights. The purple may be associated with lightning reflecting off intense rains.
Last night a thunderstorm passed overhead our village. Set the camera to f/8, ISO 64 and 15s exposure and managed to capture the lightning.
Turned out pretty nice. I like the purple shade in the sky.
Heres the same '71 lightning (now Firebird) frame after I got it back from painting by Pat Reardon. I had some NOS engine plates in the original grey. Got a really nice colour match on the original
