May 16, 2015. A short storm with high winds and heavy rain rolled through Osoyoos, B.C. around 10:45 pm.
The RAW file was blown out due to my iso being at 400. I thought the image was a write off, but managed to recover it somewhat in Lightroom 5, and used Topaz Adjust 5 to make it more it dramatic, which also brought out the rain drops .
This is the closest I've ever seen lightning come to our town.
No where near the quality of a lightning picture I'd like to take someday, but it's a start! I sat on the roof of my truck for 30 minutes trying to take this while my dad made fun of me. Safe, right?
While trying to photograph comet Lulin, this storm was also a great show. This is take looking south east to Iron Pot (not towards the comet), with the clouds lit up by the lightning.

A relatively rare event in the Puget Sound lowlands are lightning storms that produce more than one or two strokes of lightning. Ones that produce multiple in the same area occur maybe every other year. Last night was an exception as several cells formed in the south and rolled over Seattle.
A single 8s exposure of some lightning activity in Tucson, looking south towards Davis Monthan AFB. These three all discharged at just about the same time.
I created a short slideshow of most of the activity from this cell:

Towards the end of April, we got a pretty active thunderstorm with plenty of lightning and very heavy rain. We enjoyed the storm until late in the evening when we found a puddle of water in the laundry room. No damage, but we never did figure out where the water came from.
lightning storm headed straight towards our house... and my attic window ;-) (15-08-2012)

... as dark clouds slowly drifted in, the sky became darker and darker. at first it just looked like a heavy raincloud, but as the front came closer you suddenly could see the lightning flashes behind this first cloud.
flashes every 5 seconds, most of them inside the higher clouds, suddenly a gust of wind and the rain started, more and more lightning flashes became visible and reached out of the clouds.
The English Electric Lightning was the ultimate cold war interceptor, basically 2 massive engines in as streamlined a shape as possible. The Lightnings job was to get to incoming Russian bombers as fast as possible. It had a tremendous rate of climb but limited range as unlike modern fighters it wasn't designed as a multi-role aircraft.

There was a massive lightning storm about four miles away, so i could not resist busting out the camera! The only bad thing is that there is about a three second delay, so it was a pain in the boo-ta to get a shot of lighting.
