Lucky catch... I like trying to shoot lightnings. I set up the camera to open during 8s for this one, and i was lucky enough to have a lightning in the frame.
Lightning out front - This was shot from my garage, so much light around, it is hard to keep the camera open for a long exposure. This was one of about 300 pix I shot.
The left and right whelks pictured here are Lightning Whelks. The center is a Channel Whelk. Note that the Lightning Whelks are "left-handed" (sinistral) where-as the Channel whelk is right-handed. The Lightning Whelks are extremely rare to NJ and normally aren't found North of the Carolina's. These two were found on Jersey beaches and are w/out a doubt Jonas driven.
Lightning Whelk is the State shell of Texas.
New Jersey's State shell is Knobbed Whelk (1995) which is right-handed.
Lightning Whelks were considered "magic" by Native Americans and have been found in the Burial Mounds along the Mississippi River. Obviously they were traded.
As seen from our balcony last night. Constant lightning for about an hour, but too far away to hear the thunder. So cool.
There was a really wild lightning storm that blew through last week. I took my camera and tripod and tried to get a few shots. For the first time I was able to get some lightning shots because it was pretty wild. I packed it in when it started to rain and get a bit too close for my taste.
The second lightning-related worthwhile photo that I captured, a few minutes after the previous photo that I posted on Flickr!
A brief thunderstorm somewhere north of Vantaa. Considering how hot this summer has been itās surprising how few thunderstorms there have been.
I've been trying to capture lightning for years without success. Last night I captured my first strike - and although it's not exactly what I had in mind (and not very impressive!) it's still a tick in the box for me. This strike was in the bottom right corner of the frame and very small - hence the low-res cropped image.
Remote shutter trigger set to take a 1 second exposure every second.
It was a crazy night of lightning storm. Jan and I have decided to step to the balcony and watch it from the front seats. Breathtaking!
Lightning Bolt from Providence, RI, playing at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. July 15, 2010.
The Lightning was a BSA motorcycle made in Birmingham between 1965 and 1972, One of the Lightning's claims to fame is the fact that it was the motorcycle that was used in the hit British TV series Boon. The beautiful Lightning (nicknamed 'White Lightning' by the main character, Ken Boon) was a major part of the series' popularity for the 7 year run. Boon - who thought of himself as a modern day Lone Ranger would treat his Lightning as though it was his horse.
Lightning strikes in Paddington, Brisbane during a severe thunderstorm on November 14, 2013. This photo was submitted by ABC audience member Antoine GraniƩ.
