Lightning flashes as a storm front approaches Sun Prairie, WI on July 15, 2017.

Image Quality is bad on these lighting pictures, just capturing and experimenting.

Sometimes it pays to be lucky. Granted, though I did not get the whole lightning strike in this shot, I still think it might be my favorite lightning shot I have taken of all time. This is straight out of the camera, no cropping, no light adjustments, nothing. If I had a wide angle lens, this would have been spectacular. Maineville, Ohio 6-15-08 Best viewed large.

Note: For those who are wondering, A) This is not fake. I would not know how to make something like this if my life depended on it. B) The white spots are not stars, but rain drops. This shot is real and straight out of the camera as I said above.

Playing with ways to bring out the details from lightning.

Lightning strike over the Kalahari desert - the night drive was cancelled but I had no complaints as this storm raged over !Xaus rest camp in the Kgalagadi national park in South Africa. I had limited time owing to a meeting I had to attend but managed a few shots of which this was one of my favourites.

For a long time I have been interested in photographing lightning, but with only limited success, thought I was doing something wrong. I tried to use my lightning trigger, but still got only mildly interesting shots. Then in one night in August, I realized you have to have the right storm. On this particular occasion, a massive double storm cell hit Regina and apparently satellites were recording 700 lightning strikes a minute at one point. This is only 1 of the dozens of dramatic images I caught that night.

A surprise thunderstorm with lots of lightning occurred between 10 to 11 pm between Cheyenne and Ft Collins, CO. This was the first night storm the year in which I could capture cloud to ground strikes.

Using my Fujifilm X-T3, Fujinon 16-55mm @ 16mm, f/2.8, iso 3200, 0.25s exp per frame (movie mode @ 4K), I cropped the clip and extracted only the best strikes. Most lightning occurred between 15 and 25 miles to my south. This activity was over a 15 minute period.

I designed a Lightning Bolt foundation paper piecing pattern - six triangles meet at the centre to form a hexagon "Lightning Storm" block :)

English Electric/BAC Lightning F.3 XR713 at Bruntingthorpe Leicestershire. Painted to represent XR718 of the one time 56 Sqn The Firebirds, the other side showing the correct Treble One Sqn XR713.

First flown in Oct 1964 and delivered to Treble One the following year, later serving with 5 Sqn and the Lightning Training Flight. Ended up as a gate guard at RAF Leuchars Fife Scotland, but on closure of the base roaded to 'Brunty' in 2015 and re-assembled to become a exhibit alongside F6s XR728 & XS904, the airframe is engineless.

The gate seen in the background is now the entrance to the small Cold War Jets enclave here, this rather than the original entrance on the bend which accessed the airfield itself, but now sadly covered in vehicles.

A small Storm passed by Benalla and I had to try and grab a Lightning strike and Iit did take quite some time but here is my only shot that captured the lightning.

I've replaced the original with this 4 stacked composite. It brings more drama to the scene.

Some earlier stacked lightning from this amazing storm. 19 images were stacked during the height of the storm.

Lightning storm in Novosibirsk, Russia, 23 of July

I took this shot by accident. We arrived early to set up for shots of the fireworks on Canada Day. I had the cityscape all lined up, and I was taking practice shots to get a proper exposure of the city. In the middle of one of the practice shots, a strike of lightning filled the sky.

Lightning from my backyard.

Lightning was mostly too far away today and not very active, at least not before the rain, only got two shots which are blended together here.

A nice lightning bolt in front of the sunset illuminated rain. This day was a wild one, as it featured a much better lightning shot a few seconds later (further down on my profile) and a QLCS tornado that dropped in the field behind me slightly later. I'll include a link to the chase blog that covers the entire day's worth of pictures.
