Every year during May and early June the lightning storms roll around the Thermaikos bay, always threatening to engulf Thessaloniki, but for some reason they never do. I was out on the balcony taking pictures and managed to capture this less than half a hour ago.

Finally a lightning storm! This one was from Saturday morning at 1:43am, missed shooting the storm that hit this evening.
After driving all over town trying to capture the lightning with a view, I finally settled on Pioneer Park along cliff drive, after over 250 photos around town, the lightning started to slow down, and I returned to my car, soaked, but with a few keepers.

Lightning storm tonight, nothing like this one, but ok.
This is a composite of 6 shots, 15 seconds each.
>>> FRAGMENT SEIZED BY A MEMBER OF MY LITTLE BATTALION OF LOW-FI CAMERA GEAR. THIS WAS SPRING 2016. AS THE STORM LEFT OUR AREA TO THE SE, THE RAIN STOPPED, BUT THE LIGHTNING CONTINUED, FURIOUSLY [WITH SOME UNUSUAL CHARACTERISTICS).
YES, I MAKE MY OWN FUN. ;-}

One more from the storm. This crack was so loud and bright I've had to make a -5 e/v on the RAW image so you can see it! It has produced some weird effects in the dark areas, but I kind of like them. What do my Flickr friends think?
After many tries, I've finally caught a lightning. It's nowhere near some of the great lightning shots I've seen in flickr, but it's my feat. My little thrill for the evening. ;-)

This is two long exposure shots stitched together. Both pictures were taken during the same storm about five minutes apart. I think they've blended together very well.
i was lucky that the storm was away on the horizon because had the boat in the foreground moved it would have made blending the two pictures very difficult. As it is I am very happy with the result.

This is a stack of 9 frames lightened in Photoshop and was taken with a iPhone 7 Plus in video mode (www.flickr.com/photos/79387036@N07/43593022662/in/photost...). In the course of 21 minutes, I captured over 50 lightning bolts of which the best are shown here.
The thunderstorm was about 10 miles to my south and was considered at severe intensity. 80% of the strikes lasted only 1/30 sec (one frame of video).
Took on film and digitalized.
Experimenting as a Lightning-Hunter, well I was in my home, aiming my lenses out of a window. 30" exposition gave me this. Heavy digital effects.
Had to handhold 4 second exposures because tripod is still in the Jeep, which is still at the auto shop. So, it's a bit fuzzy.
After a day of sand storms in the Kgalagadi, all went quite again. Then suddenly a few drops of rain, and off we went again, to photograph the expected unique event - rain in the Kgalagadi. Not to be, heavy lightning, purple sky, no more rain. (As one of the rangers commented, they had about 10 mm of rain, that being the average distance between the marks of the drops in the sand!) We did discover the following day a small patch where the road actually had some flood water damage!
This was a 3 sec exposure, handheld with beanbag support.
