My first roll of FILM in at least 20 YEARS (or at least since Jon DeBoer was born...)
Camera: Mamiya C220F 80mm ƒ2.8
(I have no clue what the settings were.. although I'm sure I had the focus at infinity)
Film: Kodak Tri-X 400
Location: my backyard
I learned many things:
it is TORTURE waiting for film to be developed.
A light meter is pretty easy to use... not sure why I was so afraid of it.
Film feels very "alive"... there is something about it (especially in portraits) that just can't be duplicated in digital.
I love my Mamiya.
I've been meaning to "slow down" and think about what I'm doing with the light, the comp, the exposure, the focus, the everything... and having to figure every single detail out manually and in my head rather than doing what a digital camera tells me to do is going to be good for my A.D.D. brain. This is definitely going to be a great sort of journey for me in 2012.
I have to pay close attention to keeping the camera level and the parallax distortion that comes from shooting with a TLR.
More boring test shots to follow (although they are interesting to me as I journey back to film.)

Wet wet wet!
Our backyard was very hilly and it was impossible to do pretty much anything back there. So a friend of Lee's came over to level the yard.
All the rubble has been removed from the site of the new hotel behind Freddie's Beach Bar and Aspassia Studios.
Looking up a stope to level three and the metal plate that's the walkway; we got stopped up there by that plate just when it looked like a good deep walk.

The sun is just about to make an appearance during a morning walk, the level crossing near the old Ames grain elevator showed no signs of activity.

A Sikh is a follower of Sikhism. Sikhism (Sikhi in Punjabi) primarily originated in 15th century Punjab region of India and now constitutes one of the major religions with adherents throughout the world. The term "Sikh" has its origin in the Sanskrit term śiṣya, meaning "disciple, student" or śikṣa, meaning "instruction". The sikh is a disciple of the guru.
According to Article I of the "Rehat Maryada" (the Sikh code of conduct and conventions), a Sikh is defined as "any human being who faithfully believes in One Immortal Being; ten Gurus, from Guru Nanak Dev to Sri Guru Gobind Singh; the Sri Guru Granth Sahib; the teachings of the ten Gurus and the baptism bequeathed by the tenth Guru; and who does not owe allegiance to any other religion". Sikhs believe in the Equality of Mankind, the concept of Universal brotherhood of Man and One Supreme God (Ik Onkar).
Sikhs are very clearly recognized with their turbans and uncut hair. On their arm they have the kara ( steel bangle ). All males have the name Singh (lion) and women Kaur (princess).
The greater Punjab region is the historic homeland of Sikhism. Most Sikhs are Punjabis and come from the Punjab region, although significant communities exist around the world. Punjabis and the Punjab region's history has been tremendously important in the formation of Sikhism as a religion. The Sikhs refer to themselves as the Sikh Quam or Nation.
The basis of the religion is on the union of the soul, with god. The thought process and actions on the world plane are to be so that veil of the five evils, lust anger greed, ego and lust is dispelled and the soul can be united with the creator. The cycle of reincarnation is broken by this union.
Guru Nanak, the founder of the faith, summed up the basis of Sikh lifestyle needed as: Naam Japo, Kirat Karni and Wand kay Shako, which means meditate on the holy name (Waheguru), work diligently and honestly, and share one's fruits. The guiding principles of Sikh faith are Truth, Equality, Freedom, Justice and Karma.
The Sikhs revere Guru Granth Sahib as their supreme teacher. the tenth Guru appointed Guru Granth Sahib as the guru of sikhs for time to come . Compiled by the Sikh Gurus, and maintained in its original form, Sikhs revere Guru Granth Sahib as their supreme guide. Non-Sikhs can partake fully in Sikh prayer meetings and social functions. Their daily prayers include the well being of all of mankind.
Sikhism can be considered as one of the truly universal religion. The Guru Granth sahib, in addition to the revelations of the sikh gurus also contains revelations of various saints and sages of that period.
The opening hymn of the holy Guru Granth Sahib is expounds the nature and attributes of god,
“ There is one supreme eternal reality; the truth; immanent in all things; creator of all things; immanent in creation. Without fear and without hatred; not subject to time; beyond birth and death; self-revealing. Known by the Guru’s grace.”
Sikhs are required not to renounce the world, and aspire to live a modest life. Seva (service) is an integral part of Sikh worship, very easily observed in the Gurdwara. Visitors of any religious or socio-economic background are welcomed, where langar, (food for all) is always served and is another way to break the caste system by serving people of all origins with same food sitting together at same level on floor.
Protecting the religious and political rights of all people and to prevent discrimination is an intergral part of the of Sikh faith. The 5th Guru Arjan Dev was martyred by the then mughal rulers. The martyrdom of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji 9th Guru to protect Hindus from religious persecution, in Delhi, on 11 November 1675 AD, is another example of upholding minority religious freedom.

Treated 2x6x8 made for 3 levels. I since drilled two holes with a 3/8" bolt through with wing nuts to keep them together. Stop-blocks used at the end, held on with deck screws.
