Pett Level with its strong magnetic pull and Petrified Forest that was once connected to Bexhill.

SUBMERGED ANCIENT FOREST at PETT LEVEL

After the last Ice Age about 6000 years ago, the sea level was about 150ft lower than today’s level, due to the Polar Regions having significantly more ice than at present. A forest grew under the sea at Cliff End near the village of Pett, at a time when England was joined by a land bridge to the continent. The whole of the landscape would have been covered in oaks and elms, willows, birches, and there would even have been hazels growing.

As the climate warmed so the ice at the Polar Regions melted, and the Sea Level rose above the level of the forest, we believe about 3 metres higher than the current level. The forest was drowned, and the wood preserved in the salt water and mud. Since the 16th century, the sea levels have dropped, and at low tide, the bases of the trees are now visible.

The day after, the MP36PH-3C Diesel Locomotive (that I thought to be too hard for my skills) was done, again 'cuz of my lack of patience...

"ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS NEED TO BE DISCUSSED AT ALL LEVELS"

It is time that important agreements such as economic partnership and trade agreements are discussed at all levels and not be reserved "for the experts only" as they affect the lives of everyone said two non-governmental organisations.

According to the World Council of Churches (WCC) Office the Pacific and the Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG), "The Economic Partnership Agreement and PACER and PICTA are mechanisms that will affect the lives of all Pacific Islanders and as such they are important issues that need to be discussed at all levels."

WCC's Office in the Pacific's Executive Secretary Fe'iloakitau Kaho Tevi said the churches in the Pacific are now called to respond to the consequences of global economic policies that marginalize and exclude more Pacific Islanders than ever before.

Referring to Professor Jane Kelsey's report "A People's Guide to the Pacific's Economic Partnership Agreement" which was commissioned by the WCC Office in the Pacific, Tevi said the study hopes to bring such broad sweeping concepts to a level that is understandable to all in the hope that discussion is generated at all levels and that an increasing number of Pacific Islanders understand the trade negotiations and multilateral trade agreements our governments are signing up to on our behalf.

"More importantly, it is our hope that this study will bring people together to live and advocate for a more just economic system that is more viable and more sustainable for all, and that does not and will not create second class citizens," he said.

PANG Interim Coordinator Shelly Rao said the release of this report was timely as Pacific ACP Ministers and Trade Ministers meet in Nadi from 23-27 May 2005 to discuss important issues such as investment, tourism and fisheries. "Most Pacific Islanders are not aware about the consequences of such agreements. We do our best to raise awareness on such issues but this report is a great awareness tool as it dissects such agreements" she said.

Professor Jane Kelsey who is a Professor of Law at the University of Auckland, New Zealand will be launching her report in Nadi on Monday 23 May 2005. She is also the author of the interim report entitled Big Brothers Behaving Badly: The Implications for the Pacific Islands of the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) and the final report A People's Guide to PACER, produced for PANG in 2004. She is a board member of the Action, Research and Education Network of Aotearoa (ARENA)

My new level was not quite on the level;

so I decided to perform an exploratory bubblectomy.

My trusty little Swiss Army knife easily popped out one of the plugs at the end of the main vial.

As I had hoped there was a screw underneath.

The second plug was much more difficult to remove and was nearly destroyed in the process.

Apparently the factory used glyptal, lock-tight or some similar substance to lock the screws in place and some of it locked the second plug in place as well.

I removed the screws to view their fine threads for precise adjustments.

I removed the vial and found the final item I hoped for; namely a pair of rubber pads.

(If the pads had not been there, I would have had to make my own out of an old inner-tube.)

It will now be a simple matter to reassemble the level and then to re-calibrate it; by adjusting the two screws to compress the two rubber pads as required to make the bubble center when the level is level.

Staying Active During Winter

Staying Active During Winter: Staying Active During Winter

Winter Often Takes a Toll on Exercise Levels

Winter stretches longer than it seems and without realizing activity levels take a dip. When it’s too cold to be exercising outside, it’s important to remember there are still plenty of creative options to stay active indoors. This article will outline a few indoor exercise ideas to incorporate during the winter in order to stay active and healthy.

Indoor, Low Resource Options

Taking a stroll outside when the weather is nice is a low resource option. To replace this activity during the winter can be difficult so here are a few exercise options that are specifically low material. If you are already listening to Christmas tunes then go ahead and turn the listening party into a dance party. Whether alone or with family and friends it is a simple way to crank up the music and intentionally enter into a cardio workout. Without realizing this will get your heart rate going and make the indoors a place of easy access exercise. Another example of this is to do living room workouts with YouTube videos, exercise DVD’s, or another streaming service that streams exercise videos. This can require no equipment or dumbbells or resistance bands. Others can join in as well! Another creative idea is turning chores into a game. When wiping counters incorporate a few arm presses, when dusting try and do five squats after each piece of furniture is dusted.

Indoor Exercises at a Gym

During the winter is a great time to take advantage of an indoor gym. While there are plenty of exercise classes, hot yoga, regular yoga, spin class, rowing, and tai chi are great options. Some of these can even be found on a streaming service and done at home. But if an in-person experience is your preference than most gyms have these slow moving but high health impact classes. Tai chi for example is a low impact exercise that combines slow movements with deep breathing techniques. It can improve cardiovascular health, reduce stress and anxiety, ease back pain, and improve balance. Perhaps one of the best total health exercises to keep in mind this winter is swimming. While this does require a pool it the easiest on the body than other exercises and it incorporates good breathing habits, stretching, which reduces stiffness, and other total body impacts, such as reducing back and joint pains.

Freedom Home Care Can Help

Whatever your exercise preference might be this winter feel free to get creative with family and friends or tap into Freedom Home Care’s personalized caregivers as a resource to help set a workout up at home. Staying active is important during the winter, so even if you’re stuck at home or indoors, don’t forget that a workout can happen anytime, anywhere.

A nice day on the Somerset Levels

Etchingham Signalbox & Level crossing on the A265, looking towards Hurst Green. Summer 1985,

First time using a stand. I wanted to take some night shots. The night was completely overcast (and dusty) so I was getting a lot of reflections from the clouds. I really like how the yellow from the metal-halide street lamps contrasts the blue from the pedestrian walkway under the light rail transit bridge.

All comments welcome, still new to the hobby.

Once home to Seacroft Rail Station on this site, all that exists now is a narrow road leading to a private road, separated by an ungated level crossing on the Poacher Line, which runs from Skegness to Nottingham via Boston, Sleaford and Grantham.

Quedillac, Brittany, France. The 'passage a niveau'.

... Or what's left. The ex LNWR High level station enjoys a good service to London and other places, while the ex GWR Low Level slumbers, it is now a mixed use development with a Premier Inn. There were plans to extend the Midland metro here but that route was not selected, and the overgrown tracks remained until 2005 when the redevelopment of the site began.

The line between Wolverhampton Low level and Birmingham Snow Hill formed part of the GWR's Paddington to Birkenhead route. This section lost its main line services in 1967, and local traffic ceased in 1972. Birmingham Snow Hill had been completely demolished by 1977 while Wolverhampton Low Level was spared that fate, and was retained as a parcels depot. Unfortunately, while Snow Hill is now served by trains to London once again, Wolverhampton Low Level isn't.

Idonearca vulgaris (Morton, 1830) - fossil bivalve shell from the Cretaceous of Tennessee. (internal view of a left valve; ~7.7 centimeters across at its widest)

This species is also known as Cucullaea (Idonearca) vulgaris.

Bivalves are bilaterally symmetrical molluscs having two calcareous, asymmetrical shells (valves) - they include the clams, oysters, and scallops. In most bivalves, the two shells are mirror images of each other (the major exception is the oysters). They occur in marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments. Bivalves are also known as pelecypods and lamellibranchiates.

Bivalves are sessile, benthic organisms - they occur on or below substrates. Most of them are filter-feeders, using siphons to bring in water, filter the water for tiny particles of food, then expel the used water. The majority of bivalves are infaunal - they burrow into unlithified sediments. In hard substrate environments, some forms make borings, in which the bivalve lives. Some groups are hard substrate encrusters, using a mineral cement to attach to rocks, shells, or wood.

The fossil record of bivalves is Cambrian to Recent. They are especially common in the post-Paleozoic fossil record.

This well-preserved, three-dimensional fossil bivalve shell is a false ark clam. It comes from a famous Cretaceous-aged marine deposit in western Tennessee called Coon Creek. Fossils there occur in a nearshore succession of lightly-cemented, glauconitic, clayey sands. During the Cretaceous, the lower and middle Mississippi River Valley region was below sea level - the ocean extended from Louisiana and Mississippi up north to Arkansas, western Tennessee, and the Illinois-Missouri-Kentucky tristate area.

Classification: Animalia, Mollusca, Bivalvia, Pteriomorphia, Arcoida, Arcoidea, Cucullaeidae

Stratigraphy: Coon Creek Formation (a.k.a. Coon Creek "Tongue" of the Ripley Formation), lower Maastrichtian Stage, upper Upper Cretaceous

Locality: Coon Creek site (apparently = exposures at the Coon Creek Science Center, along Hardin Graveyard Road, adjacent to Coon Creek), just northeast of the town of Leapwood, northeastern McNairy County, southwestern Tennessee, USA
