Bat out in daylight over Somerset Levels

Postira, island of Brač

This bridge is the largest railway structure in Canada and the largest of its type in the world. It was built as part of a major diversion of the Crowsnest Pass route between Lethbridge and Fort Macleod. It measures in Length: 1,623.860 m (5,327 ft 7 1⁄2 in), and Height: 96 m (314 ft) above river bed.

With Platform 3 having been rebuilt at Lichfield Trent Valley, Cross City Line services can once again terminate here with passengers onboard. Here, Centro 323221 and 323242 arrive with 2P37 from Bromsgrove.

Explored today with Jake Wilson, extremely talented gift with photography. It's always an honor to shoot with him. Sometimes I feel like he came out of the womb with a camera.

The original Antwerpen Centraal station building was constructed between 1895 and 1905 as a replacement for the original terminus of the Brussels-Mechelen-Antwerp Railway, a rather minor railway at that time, though linking the areas most import cities, and richest.. The stone clad terminus building, with it's vast dome above the waiting room hall was designed by Louis Delacenserie and the iron and glass train roof at 185 metres long and 44 metres high was designed Clement van Bogaert but manufactured in the UK.

By the 1980's it was clear that rail growth, especially in high speed services, was going to render the old terminus obsolete. In 1998 large-scale reconstruction work began to convert the station from just a terminus to a terminus AND through station. A new tunnel has been excavated between Berchem station in the south of the city and Antwerpen-Dam station in the north, passing under Central station. The result was two underground levels with 6 through tracks on the lowest level and four terminal tracks above. This arrangement allows Thalys (Paris-Amsterdam and Paris Koln), HSL 4 and HSL-Zuid high-speed trains to travel through Antwerp Central without the need to turn around thus saving the terminus only operation of Amsterdam-Brussels trains to call only at Berchem or reverse at Antwerpen Centraal.

The new station iOS most impressive and worth a visit. It has four levels and 14 (though numbering goes to 22 !) tracks as follows:

Level +1: The original station, 6 terminating tracks, arranged as two groups of three and separated by a central opening allowing views of the lower levels

Level 0: For ticketing facilities, food services and commercial shop space

Level −1: 7 m below street level, 4 terminating tracks, arranged in two pairs, also featuring the world-famous twin level escalators that start off at a gradient, then become level, then resume a gradient again, a unique solution to an engineering challenge.

Level −2: 18 m below street level, 4 through tracks, leading to the two tracks of the tunnel under the city which are used by high-speed trains and fast domestic InterCity services including the soon to be started Bruxelle- Den Haag service.

The major elements of the construction project were completed in 2007, and the first through trains ran on 25 March 2007.

This complete project has cost approximately €1.47 billion and €1.83 billion depending on whose view you take !

In Summary Antwerpen Centraal is an engineering work of art that Belgium should rightfully be proud of spread out across 120 years. It certainly stand in stark contrast to the bloody awful mess that is Bruxelle.

Brighton Level reopened last night. I bundled down hoping to get photos of the cool kids grinding and jumping - and didn't.

Heres a picture of people playing in water instead.

About 3 hours in now, we had heard rumors that this mine had multiple levels but untill now it was all on one. Through the curtains lay another level as promised!

We dicided decending further was best left for another trip, another day.
