Thanks to Norma's (Nonie Vogue) e-mail alerting me to the event, I had the privilege and pleasure this evening of attending Ra McGuire's (son of Norma) launching of his just out great first book, "Here For A Good Time - On the Road with TROOPER, Canada's Legendary Rock Band" of which he is a founding member and lead singer. The event took place at "The Roxy" nightclub on Granville St. in downtown Vancouver and was a friendly and easy-going affair, enjoyed by all present.
Left to right in this pic are Gary (Norma's son and Ra's brother), Norma, Dawn (who we know as Flower Child, Norma's niece), Brian (old friend of Ra), and Ra. Of course all in this bunch except Brian are famous Flickrites!

What was the quotation from Wind in the Willows? "There is nothing, absolutely nothing that is as much fun as messing about in boats". And a sunny Saturday afternoon in Whitstable is just the place to do that.

Bell Helicopter graciously hosted a spectacular Sky Ball XV launch event at their corporate headquarters on August 28th, 2017. They rolled out the red carpet to provide the Airpower Foundation an opportunity to introduce new potential sponsors to Sky Ball, while also hosting many longtime supporters, and current sponsors. Special guests for the event included Medal of Honor Recipient, Gary Littrell, Medal of Honor Foundation President, Ron Rand, and the most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division, James “Maggie” Megellas. Maggie also recently celebrated his 100th birthday in March, and gave a very moving speech about his experiences in WWII. The evening included a raffle with many exciting prizes, and a live auction for a helicopter ride around DFW courtesy of Bell. Guest speaker, Kara Martin, moved the audience as she shared her personal experience of the significant impact The Airpower Foundation had on her life, and her recovery, with the assistance in training her service dog through an organization we are proud to support. As she said, her life was saved thanks to the support The Airpower Foundation was able to provide. Sky Ball emcee Scott Murray hosted the evening, and we also enjoyed an amazing rendition of the National Anthem by recording artist Jennifer Nickerson, and another amazing performance by singer Steve Turner who closed the evening with God Bless America.
The Airpower Foundation would like to sincerely thank Bell Helicopter for hosting this wonderful evening, and for their longtime support of the Foundation, and all who serve. We all thank everyone who joined us, and we hope to see you all at Sky Ball XV as we salute the American Veteran on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2017. We are also proud to have The Beach Boys joining us for this celebration as our headlining entertainment.
Please visit www.skyballinfo.com for exclusive sponsorship opportunities, individual tables, and tickets to join us for the largest and most impactful military support event in the nation!

Yesterday I went with my mother-in-law (who is an member of the WREN Association) to the launch of the sixth and latest Type 45 Destroyer purchased by the Navy HMS Duncan. Despite being born and brought up in Govan I don't think I had ever been to a ship launch, and as this may be last, it was great to go along and see. We were actually too close to get a good ship shot and the light and shadow made it difficult to get a balanced shot of crowd and ship. However, I did get some pics to remember the day by. There must have been abut 10,000 people in the shipyard.
