Launch boats transport local pilots to ships entering the Canal. The local pilots take over the ships and steer them through the Canal. The entire passage takes 8 to 10 hours.

One of several exhibitions at this year's Festival (13th - 15th October 2017), Archipelagogo is at the Wildman Gallery, Wildman Street, Kendal from 1st October 2017 – 4th November 2017. The gallery is open Tuesday/ Wednesday/ Thursday and Saturdays from 9.30am – 5.00pm and admission is free

During the Festival weekend the exhibition is open on Saturday, 14th October, 9.00am – 5.00pm and on Sunday, 15th October, from 10.00am – 4.00pm. Admission is free for Festival passholders but at the weekend admission will be £2 for non passholders
