In Luang Prabang, a new project focusing on three northern Lao PDR provinces was launched on 12 March 2019. The work will focus on rice, tea and silk as part of the goal to support impoverished provinces and spur economic growth. This silk weaving was on display at a store in Luang Prabang.

Just trying out an idea- - the instructions suggest launching with full extension of cords but I was curious to see if I could hand launch from close up - almost got it just trying to get a grip on the control reels , the kite is really erratic on the close up end of the launch

"Mountains are different"
we set off very early at 4am, grabbing a free breakfast on the way at a mountain hotel… (just say your'e staying in room 11 and it normally works)
We were looking through photographs making the selection for Fixed 08, when we found a random shot of a supply road leading to the top of the mountain island, by the dam. Patrick had not attempted this descent before, as it is off the main road and normally he rides the 30km straight down without stopping. The surface of the supply road was super sketchy, pitted with pot holes, uneven cobble stones and crumpled tarmac making it almost impossible for him to control skidding… it was good fun and we hope you will like the end result.

Campaign Launches to Combat Omaha’s Dismal Health Ranking
(SEPT. 27, 2010 - OMAHA, NE) Today Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour, Douglas County Commissioner Chris Rodgers, and Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle introduced a multimedia campaign to educate and inspire metro Omaha residents to make informed choices in physical activity and healthy eating. The ultimate goal is making Omaha and Douglas County a better and healthier place to live.
According to a 2007 report, Omaha ranks in the bottom 25 percent – 142nd of 182 cities evaluated – regarding the risk factors of obesity, nutrition, physical activity, smoking and binge drinking.
To turn this health challenge around, in March, the Douglas County Health Department sought out and was awarded a grant of more than $5.7 million for obesity prevention and nutrition education in Douglas County. A significant effort will communicate the importance of policy change, which will increase healthy choices among their residents through a variety of methods including increasing the availability of healthy foods and beverages and improving access to safe places for physical activity.
This grant will support a strong communications element. The effort will be multi-tiered with specific messages designed to reach into all parts of the community. “The campaign will tap into Douglas County’s competitive spirit. We want Omaha to be one of the healthiest cities in the nation – a great city should also be a healthy city,” said Mary Balluff, Douglas County Health Department Division Chief, “Every person, every company, every group can – and hopefully will – play a role in creating an environment of healthy, active people.”
The campaign will address every component of this grant. Resources will be created to help guide agencies on how to use healthy options, including a team of community trainers that will use the resources and work directly with the faith community, small and medium businesses, doctors’ offices and ethnically diverse agencies to foster a commitment to provide more opportunities for their constituents.
“The cost of managing chronic diseases in Douglas County is enormous and growing,” said Dr. Pour. “Unless we do more to prevent cancer, heart and lung disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases from occurring in the first place—the ultimate goal of our community project—we will never be able to bring health care spending under control.”

When launching, the kite can be stood up on its end like this.
An alternative method is to hold the kite by its nose about 8' off the ground (hand held up over your head) with the bridle dangling out below. The kite is then tossed with a sharp forward action. It will rotate to vertical and start falling toward the ground. Start pumping for altitude and letting out line. This is how I launch when I'm on fresh lava rock, which will tear up a kite's sail if it makes contact with it.
