So, a lot of things change since my last flickr visit.
Our home is finished, we moved in on September 13th, and got to live in it for about two weeks, after which we moved back to Budapest, because Cristian got a job offer here.
This is one of the plates wanted to put on a kitchen wall, but I broke when I was arranging stuff in the kitchen. It is one of my favourites, so I decided to keep all the pieces and glue it back together, an imitation of Japanese kintsugi.
I'm sorry I did not get to finish the 365, but all the moves got too much to keep up with thisproject as well. Now that we've finally settled in our new place in Budapest, I'm going to do a "Mevember" in November, and maybe try again with the 365 in 2018.
Muertos and Kintsugi CAN be purchased individually.

Whatever kind are thrown at you, collect them, embrace them and enjoy them. Don't let them break your bones or shatter your glass.
If they do, make it even more beautiful than before.
I guess I'm starting a new collection.

From my 2018 ArtPrize archives...this piece was inside the window at the venue, so I shot it from outside. This artist is so amazing, her gold origami cranes are so tiny.

This was originally intended to be a companion piece to my Kintsugi picture from last month but it turned out to be it's glam younger brother instead.
Fuck ME I love the shiny.
Where Mighty Mendit meets Kintsugi. Better than before...
This ceramic vase was given to me from one of my Dad's girlfriends in the late 70's. It lasted for almost 20 years until one day, my cat Teddy, when departing a window, landed on it and broke it. I kept the pieces in a box, saving them for when I had time to fix it. Before we were married, my now ex-husband saw the box of broken pieces and assumed I would want it thrown away, so he threw the box of broken pieces in the dumpster without asking if that was what I wanted. When he told me about it, I let him know that my intention was to put the vase back together when I had time. The next day, when I came home from work, there was a box waiting for me with most of the pieces of the broken vase. He picked them all out of the dumpster. I was not expecting him to do so, but I greatly appreciated it!
When I had time to fix the vase, all I had was some Mighty Mendit, so I put the pieces I had back together using that. I later discovered Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. I thought it was just beautiful and knew it would be the perfect thing for this vase. This is not true Kintsugi, but it expresses the spirit of it by seeing the artistry of the cracks and how it makes the vase more beautiful than before it was broken.

She is the goddess Nut, daughter of breath, of water. She is clad in the heavens, and a shield against the dark.
I talked in yesterday's post about my lapis goddess -- this combination of Fallen God's Pure Abyss skin, their Damned tattoo, and the Kintsugi tattoo from kosmii. The outfit and jewelry followed, but those things, invoking the spirit of ancient Egypt? Yes, yes, I know Kintsugi is Japanese, but lapis is often shot through with gold pyrite, and it just looked right to me.
I'll admit I was a bit taken aback last Friday when I saw the exclusive skins for Alia Baroque's Fantasy Faire Jail-and-Bail -- two skins with the Damned tattoo built-in, one of which was a dark blue. HEY! That was my idea!
But I got Nut: Dynasty Night anyway. Nut (pronounced similar to 'newt') is the sky goddess, shielding the Earth from the perpetual Dark.
And you know? I'm rather glad I did. It's a much darker blue than the Pure Abyss skin, and is overlayed not just with the Damned hieroglyphs, but also the stars from FG's earlier Sidara skin. It's its own look.. and I love it, too.
Yeeeesss I still used the kintsugi golden fractures. Because I *still* think they're awesome.
I also added in the lovely Circe Aurora dress from [QE] Designs that I found. It's perfect, I saw it and new that it was just what I needed: Nut is clad in the very heavens. Circe is fitted for Maitreya, Legacy, Hourglass, Kupra, and Freya. No Lara Petite, but it fits well enough that I've got no complaints -- the style of the top means there's none of that embarrassing mid-boob 'pooch' that sometimes shows up on Lara clothing on small chests. Of course, if you've got a larger chest, that's no worry for you anyway! Circe also comes with a texture HUD with four primary variations and five different accent variations.
Oh, yeah, one other lovely goodie -- I was walking through ___ and saw this wonderful Glass Halo from Rainnn. The Radiant crown is a common feature in ancient Egypt, featured in art and statues, symbolising the warmth, the light, the power of the Sun. Nut in some images is shown with a Moon crown, and the Glass Halo, together with the wonderful Leight Anubis horns from A Fantastical Notion definitely evoke that Moon crown imagery.
What's the moral of the story? Dunno. How about "I never have gone wrong with a new exotic skin"? I don't know how often I wear a skin with hieroglyphs.... but I have another option, another look, and I love it. Maybe that's the moral of the story -- you never know until you experiment.

Kintsugi ("golden joinery") is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
“She made broken look beautiful
and strong look invincible.
She walked with the Universe
on her shoulders and made it
look like a pair of wings.”

This Yin Yang pair of OOAK art dolls is a concept me and my friend Naomi have been planning for years. They are inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, mending broken pottery with gold. The albino twin will be hers and I will get to keep the dark resin beauty to bind our friendship together forever.
This project has given me strength to get through this horrible year, so full of loss, fear and missed opportunities. Kintsugi reminds me that we are not broken. We can learn and grow from our negative experiences, and become better people for it.
Commissioned OOAK dolls. Not for sale. Both Inamorata 3.0 dolls share the Nsia head sculpt, one in Milk and the other in Coffee resin.
Thank you all for the covers ,,Favs..Likes...Awards and comments, are all very much appreciated .Blown away by the photo contests ..Thank you so very much ..:D

'Kintsugi Wabi Sabi'
Acrylics
Wabi-sabi is in its simplest terms the Japanese philosophy of embracing beauty in imperfection. Pair that with mottainai- that feeling one gets when something is wasted. And you get this beautiful creation of the Japanese tradition of kintsugi, a tradition of taking a broken bowl and joining it together with lacquer dusted with gold.
This is a renewed version of a previous painting deconstructed and reconstructed- the puzzle back together using a paint, an acrylic kintsugi.
It's a wabi sabi kintsugi. Everything is impermanent, yes, but in the meantime you can create your sort of beauty and joy with what you have. With life with art with experiences. You can renew whatever need be. All you need to do so is the next moment.

2024's Octoburn theme, both at the real life Burning Man and mirrored at Burn2, is "Curiouser & Curiouser". I'm an invited artist again this year, and while I can't show you much of my build just yet, I can show you this teaser for it. I've titled my exhibit "We're All Mad Here", and I made myself a 10/6 price card to tuck into my 90s checkerboard patterned bucket hat.
When we open tomorrow (October 18th), I'll be able to share the location. When I do, you'll get to see how I interpreted this year's theme. You'll find some fun interactive treats, as well as a gift I left around there somewhere. 🔎

Lapis lazuli -- the the colour of the sky, the colour of the deeps. Flecked with golden stars, symbol of life, of healing, of love, of immortality. Are we not all made immortal in love?
Some outfits we put together quite quickly, some finally click... this one is one I've been playing with a lot over the past two years, I think: I keep having this idea, this vision, and elements finally came together.
See, lapis lazuli is one of my two favourite precious stones (the other being opal), and when I saw the Pure Abyss skin from Fallen Gods, I knew that I wanted to pair it with the Damned hieroglyph tattoo that I had gotten from them a couple of years prior. Last year I found the Kintsugi golden tattoo from kosmii at Fantasy Faire... and it all started to come together.
The Merith outfit is from Faida, and it's just perfect: the linen is revealing, and maybe hinting at a mummy's wrappings. I modified it just a little using the textures edit tab: I tinted the linen just a little to give it more of a 'natural' look (and less white), and I took all of the metal bands and collar, and dialed up the specular reflection to make them shine like gold.
Add a few more jewelry pieces, and then the piece-de-resistance: the Starfire wings from aii & ego. These are highly customisable, with an extensive HUD. I played around, and managed to create a gold that satisfied -- and then went back and adjusted all of the other gold trim and jewelry that I could so that they all had the same gold tone -- not too yellow, not too white.
This year I've added the lovely lapis-and-gold Leight (Anubis) horns from A Fantastical notion, found at Fantasy Faire. Again, I did a little editing to dial up the specular reflection on the gold. To be sure, they look amazing as is, I just wanted a really high gloss.
Am I finished? Hardly. But... I am very proud of my lapis goddess.
Of course... I got to Alia's Jail-and-Bail this year, and found myself somewhat 'scooped' -- but more on that story tomorrow.

Sometimes I think back to darker days, and how I’ve been able to mend from them. What was it that helped me to heal and fix myself?
The past is always present and can be shown through physical or invisible scars. I hope to mend these with golden veins that I will proudly wear as a sort of medallion or armour.

Mural by Menace Two and Resa Piece collectively known as @menaceresa, seen at 3543 East 16th Street in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, California.
The mural is the sixth work in a series of seven relating to the concept of Kintsugi. Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery") is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. As a philosophy Kintsugi shows us that imperfection can be artful and beautiful. Thus we can better appreciate the weakness, misfortune, and human drama that unfold in our lives.
