Adva is the Hebrew word for Ripple. I really love that word and its meaning.

I have been using this water setting for the few Missing Melody builds, first used in Kintsugi sim.

After a few requests and quesitons I decided to make a copy/mod version for landscapers and anyone to be able to have a nice rainy atmosphere.

Mural by Menace Two and Resa Piece collectively known as @menaceresa, seen at 3543 East 16th Street in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, California.

The mural is the sixth work in a series of seven relating to the concept of Kintsugi. Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery") is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. It treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. As a philosophy Kintsugi shows us that imperfection can be artful and beautiful. Thus we can better appreciate the weakness, misfortune, and human drama that unfold in our lives.

In fifteenth-century Japan someone broke a beautiful vase belonging to a general. He had it repaired, but he was not happy with the result. So a craftsman broke it again and stuck it back together with lacquer filled with gold. This became an art form, Kintsugi, ‘joining with gold’. The object that was broken becomes more beautiful than ever. Seeking forgiveness, we bring to God the broken pieces of our lives, our failures and sins, and with the grace of God we are restored, the ugliness of our failures swallowed up in beauty, and the nonsense in meaning.

This Yin Yang pair of OOAK art dolls is a concept me and my friend Naomi have been planning for years. They are inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, mending broken pottery with gold. The albino twin will be hers and I will get to keep the dark resin beauty to bind our friendship together forever.

This project has given me strength to get through this horrible year, so full of loss, fear and missed opportunities. Kintsugi reminds me that we are not broken. We can learn and grow from our negative experiences, and become better people for it.

Now that the villains are slain, the Final Girl™ stands on the rooftop terrace of the asylum contemplating what's next. She uses the magnifying glasses and the telescope to look outward, to search, to find more of the right people, places, and things to surround herself with.

This set design is my entry for the What's Lost Spirits Halloweenie Event. Builders were given scarecrows to include in our builds, and told to pick any location (that isn't inside a building) on either What's Lost Spirits or the adjoining Fear Of Wellness sim to build on. The building contest officially opens today, and the winners will be announced on Halloween. I've noticed a few sets start popping up and I'm excited to see how they look when they're finished, as well as all the others that will go up. Lots of creativity in this crowd.

I think my set is more or less finished, but knowing me I'll probably tweak some things before the voting begins.

KINTSUGI

The Restorative Art of Naoko Fukumaru

Kintsugi, (pronounced keen-tsue-ghee), uses powderedgold over lacquer-repaired seams to magnify the beauty that emerges from breakage. This 500-year-old method ofmending damaged ceramics evocatively reminds us of theremarkable human capacity to overcome challenges and adversities. Artist and professional ceramics conservator, Naoko Fukumaru, combines state-of-the-art restoration techniques with traditional kintsugi repair methods to create work that highlights imperfections while exploring new possibilities for this noteworthy craft. Here in the Calvin and Mayho Tanabe Gallery, our kintsugi exhibition features Fukumaru's experimental work, which courageously divergesfrom tradition to express the redemptive potential [really?] born from the act of sensitively reconstructing something that has shattered. For Fukumaru, practicing kintsugi is not merely about repairing damaged physical objects, but finding new nways to celebrate the history, artistry, and symbolism of each piece by choosing to cherish rather than trash what has been broken.

Fusing kintsugi-repaired vessels with unconventional materials like thread, textiles, and surprising plaster forms of mushrooms, succulents, crystals, and animals, Fukumaru conveys a journey from vulnerability to strength. Urushi lacquer is at the heart of much of Fukumaru's work. In addition to helping rejoin the broken fragments, urushi can be layered to develop texture and three-dimensional forms.

It can also be used as a paint, which draws from the maki-e lacquer decorating tradition, where surface designs are meticulously painted with urushi then sprinkled with powdered gold or other precious metals to accentuate the designs. However, instead of the typical maki-e motifs of plants and animals, Fukumaru's urushi decorations are reminiscent of neurons, sparking connections between disparate pieces that she has attentively attached to the restored vessels. Delving into what it means to be beautifully broken, Fukumaru expands the horizon of kintsugi as a powerful art form.

The exhibition continues in the Pavilion Gallery

It has been years since the last time I cut myself but the old scars will remain in my skin forever.

I used to like scars when I was a kid, but back then I only had scars related to stories that I did not mind telling others about (and even had fun while doing so, sometimes), which is not the case with these.

I think they are ugly, but nowadays there is nothing I can do about it except trying to accept them.

An example of kintsugi: In Japan a broken ceramics is mended with gold lacquer which makes it even more precious. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kintsugi

"Restoration"

Life is full of experiences. Some have it easier than others, and some get broken along the way. You're not broken forever. It may take a bit longer to earn your golden stripes but you should never feel ashamed of what life has given you. Instead, be proud of who you are because your past is what helped you to become the amazing person you are today.

Bambi & I are happy to announce the winners for our Grand Opening Photo Contest at Kintsugi;Spirited beyond. We are so excited and happy seeing all the photos posted in the group so far. We hope to see more photos.

It was not easy choosing the winners and we finally concluded we needed to add some consolation winners because we just loved most of the photos but for competitions there must be winners in the end. :) Our Criteria was simple, we selected photos that followed the contest rules, had creativity and captured something unique compared to most.

Sorry for the long rambling but here are the top 3 Winners!

First Place:-

亗 Orion Octane 亗 (orionoctane)

When we saw this picture, we were honestly so surprised. Not only did he choose one of the hardest spots to build (Bambi was growling when she landscaped that path and did those steps up!) He also managed to add a very nice story to his photo. Warriors are a huge part of Japanese History and it was really breath taking seeing that recreated in Kintsugi. Thank you Orion and Congrats!

Second Place:-

Seb (sebcaen.neox)

www.flickr.com/photos/sebcaen/49908451357

This was the first photo that made our hearts melt, seeing a good amount of most of Kintsugi in one photo along with that romantic blend of color, water reflection and overall positive glow! Seb really managed to make our hearts swoon with this entry featuring some of our surreal parts of our little world. Congrats Seb and thank you!

Third Place:-

Lynn (titaniclynn.ayres)

www.flickr.com/photos/cheekymonkey009/49944414706

So beautiful and yet haunting! We were hoping someone would see the lovely angle and capture it. This is the entrance to the Lantern island which is also a memorial area for our furry friends. Lynn did a remarkable job with her soft edits, sharp eyes and beautiful composition. Thank you so much Lynn and congrats!

We have chosen 3 consolation winners as below in no particular order:-

Icy SL (BruiserBest)

The Wise Owl! We are thrilled someone noticed him and the photo was dreamy, and yet you can easily see the details of where he is perched. Moreover, we enjoyed the little message about the photograph. Congrats & you have our thanks!

Vanessa Jane (vanessajane66)

This has got to be our favorite photo of the dreamy Artists Home. It was almost like a painting. Also her description was very well written. Thanks so much and congrats!

ღ Śɦęl ღ (shelmark)

We were happy seeing the umbrellas and part of the market captured to well. Her little connection to hope was what won our heart as well as the crisps colors she used to highlight the little ghost city. Thanks very much and congrats!

P.S. I will contact you all shortly. <3

Oudeschans 27/12/2019 17h33

Personally one of my most successful installations of the 2019-2020 season. As well from the water as from the land. The Montelbaanstoren (tower) at the end of the "Waalseiland". The name arose because the Duke of Alva (Alba) wanted to build a castle near this tower, and wanted to give this castle the name Monte Albano. The tower was then called "Monte-Albaens-tooren", which was popularly converted into a Montelbaanstoren.

Amsterdam Light Festival

Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter.

The theme of edition #8 is DISRUPT!. In line with the theme 'DISRUPT!', the festival has chosen a completely new route for the first time: Oosterdok, Oudeschans, Amstel, Nieuwe Keizersgracht, Plantage Muidergracht, Entrepotdok.

From 28 November 2019 to 19 January 2020 Amsterdam was again the stage for international light art.

THE CRACKS

Artist: Karolina Howorko (PL/FR, 1988)

“There is a crack, a crack in everything / That’s how the light gets in,” legendary Canadian singer and poet Leonard Cohen sang in his song Anthem (1992). Striving for perfection makes little sense, Cohen said, because life is simply about change and decay. Yet there is always hope, and we must embrace the imperfections in what we do and what we make; damage and defects define the character of a person or an object.

Even though our western civilisation mostly celebrates the ‘uncracked’ and perfect, Karolina Howorko noticed that embracing imperfection is a common theme in for instance kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold or silver lacquer. The ancient philosophy behind this practice is that cracks demonstrate an object’s history, act as a (warning) sign for acting forces and generate unique and beautiful patterns on an item – in the words of the poet, they let the light in.

Like Japanese artisans used to do, Howorko turns the cracks that can be seen on the the old Montelbaan tower (1516) into an artwork. Using slides, color filters and lamps, she creates illuminated cracks that are slowly taking over the surface, as if revealing pieces of a story that’s hidden within the tower. For Howorko, the artwork symbolises something much bigger: the large disruptive forces in modern society, which cause climate systems, institutions, assumptions and traditions to shake, crack and at times even fall apart. Visualising these disruptions can highlight the important transformations that they set in motion, as well as the new opportunities that arise with repairing or replacing, and perhaps it even shows us prospects for a new world.
