Mame did a dance called the hoochy-coo That's the thing that slew McGrew Put the blame on Mame, boys, Put the blame on Mame guilt... it's not in these stars, it's inside us. 3D optical illusion. Immortalize a portrait rendered in stone texture, showcasing the red-haired beauty in a wide-brimmed hat strewn with flowers, her realistic dreamy eyes, detailed and clear, sparkling under long, seductive eyelashes. Dressed in a silk sheer dress adorned with sparkling sequins, an Art Deco masterpiece from legendary artists including Wlop, Victo Ngai, Annigoni, Milo Manara, Botticelli, Catherine Welz-Stein, Jean Metzinger, Gustav Klimt. Perfect eyes, Perfect face, earrings, flowers, mixed media collage, textured, layered, assemblage inspired by Brian Viveros and Esao Andrews, kintsugi elements with gold and oxidized copper patina, background of tumbleweeds and stones, bridges and bonsai flecks delicate colors and sophisticated bokeh effects, foil relief, high detail, hyper detail. Watercolor and ink splashes, dynamic pose, high resolution, clear quality

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold- a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. "You won't realize your full potential until you go through the rough times."

The ancient Japanese philosophy that helps us accept our flaws.

Left: This is the process of making one of my sculptures that was made to be part of a sculpture containing three clay birds, one if which is in flight.

This sculpture of a flying bird broke and I used the Japanese process of Kintsugi to fix this, I replaced gold however with a gold coloured epoxy resin.

Right: This is my final bird sculpture, it contains two sitting birds placed on a wooden block, above these birds is a sculpture of the bird that was broken. I used kintsugi to fix this birds wing and to make it an entirely new foot. I suspended this bird using a piece of wire coming from the wooden block and into a hole I drilled into the back of the bird.

Kintsugi - Waterloo - 8 sept-2 nov 2022

Temple of the Deep (build week) by Miguel Arraiz

The Temple of the Deep is a sanctuary for grief, love, and introspection, formed beneath a massive black stone that appears to hover above participants. This dark, fractured element symbolizes the weight of loss and the strength found in healing, inspired by kintsugi, where brokenness is embraced and honored. Seven narrow entrances guide visitors through the journey of mourning, leading to a central gathering space mirroring BRC’s layout. Alcoves and chapels offer solitude and remembrance, while the seamless integration with the desert transforms sorrow into connection, grounding participants in shared reflection.

A selection of hand poured candles lovingly made to order using eco friendly rapeseed wax grown from UK crops. Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi - a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. The wax is brought together meeting a concrete base creating an industrial, rustic, classic and unique look.

Waterloo - Vernissage "Kintsugi" - 8 sept 2022

Waterloo - Vernissage "Kintsugi" - 8 sept 2022

Guest Artist Mindy Fitterman (my cousin) has several works on display at the Ayer Loft Gallery, 172 Middle Street, Lowell, MA. This piece is canvas and thread. Mindy is part of a group of six artists, "Seacoast Area Fine Artists" displaying fabric arts in a show entitled, "Not Written in Stone." The show is up through August 28th, and the gallery is open Saturdays, Sundays 12-4 pm and by appointment. I hope area friends will check it out.

In this work I explore the stories of women only once removed from the bonds of slavery, when millions of African-Americans fled the South in search of a better life in a “Great Migration" that would forever change the face of America. Many fear teaching history's truth about systemic racism may engender shame, but for me the true shame is having to unlearn a history that tells less than the whole story. A more complete history brings back the voices of those who have been intentionally silenced. It is time, in the words of the Black National Anthem, to "lift every voice."

Using 100 year old historical portraits which often feel strikingly modern, along with period documents, textures from my drawing and paintings, layered with pages from a 1919 antique book, "The Trees of Pennsylvania," I hope to create images that give voice to stories too long silent and restore dignity to women striving to escape their chains, both literal and figurative, while exploring the layering of time and memory as these women went on to create wide-growing family trees, putting down roots in fertile new lands.

Leaving aside the internationally accepted beauty standards and inspired by ''Kintsugi'' (the Japanese art of fixing the broken with gold), every one of us is beautiful the way he is. Gold glitter was added to the ''imperfections'' of the body, either natural (here: stretch marks, body hair) or personal choices (here: tattoos, piercings), to embrace the uniqueness and individuality of every person.
