Having a break, taking the phone, chatting with friend or relatives... Who doesn't have a cellphone now? In China, even the oldest people are using smartphone like iPhone or Chinese equivalent. It reminds me the time when I was a young teenager, ridding my bike to reach my friends house, knocking at the door to check if they were there and ready to go out... Time is flying and the world is changing so quickly... in China faster than elsewhere. This is China.

I love Jasper Lake--its massive, shallow, mirroring expanse makes me feel like I'm living my childhood fantasies: Middle Earth, Damar, the Forest Kingdom... I always have these jaw-dropping, head-spinning moments of running across a path or beach or road to see things like this. I feel like I'm jumping into a dream. That mountain range? Good lord, there is nothing like seeing that for the first time. And there's nothing like bringing that moment back, so I'll never forget it.

This political sign has been on this old barn forever. (Gary Parsons has held the sheriff's office here in Lee County, Virginia since December, 1996). The sign on the front of the barn is for someone who ran for a school board position. I wanted to photograph this from the upper (left side), because there are rolls of hay stacked there that I wanted to include. I couldn't do that because it put me facing straight into the evening sun. Oh well, I still like this angle, and it gives me an excuse to stop and photograph it again another day.

Not happy with this one, but better than my last few attempts at this shot. At least no cloud today, but I had to take it a second earlier than I intended to avoid being bowled. As a result, the express lift tower is sticking out of the top of the bus, but I suppose it`s better than half the image being of a white van!?

Passing by this hotel entrance canopy, I thought I might get a good shot if the right passers by, er, passed by. They didn't. Still, this does capture the feel of the place, and I like how the doorman and cop are hidden in the shade.

Edit: this is not a hotel, it's the entrance to the Olympic Tower (next to St Patrick's cathedral on 5th Avenue), where Jackie O used to cool her heels when she was in town. If you fancy it, a duplex is currently available for a very reasonable $19,500,000.

There was me trying to keep it a surprise, not realising at all that Colin had been uploading photos all holiday from his phone!

Anyway, we're home now, and as you may have gathered, we holidayed in Northumberland, England's most northerly county. And contrary to what I'd feared when we left home, we had some lovely sunny weather.

Our holiday cottage was about halfway across the horizon on this photo, just about where the sand meets the woodland (see the note I've added on the photo). This was the sixth holiday we've had at Watersmeet, Waren Mill.

Thanks for all your comments while we were away. I've got lots of washing and unpacking to do. Hope to catch up with all of you soon.
