Keep Out....Until Game Time??
Back in the day this sign would of never worked as when I was young (1970s) we would be playing unsupervised baseball games all the time. We would climb over fences to get to a field if needed, didn't matter how many kids we had (8 to 18) didn't matter, we were playing.
Today.....where are all the kids. I never see a ball game that isn't either little league or travel ball, what a shame. The pickup games we used to play were the best!
And today is the Detroit Tigers first game of 2025......Go Tigers!
And waving flags. And driving dreams.
We'll keep buying.

A brief interruption in my vow of semi-silence. Another frame laying around, and a good one to celebrate a milestone, however trivial a millionth view may be. I am still rarely completely happy with what I shoot. But fuck it–if I was too happy, I'd try less. So here's to another million, or five more views. Even if nobody is buying, I'll keep selling.

These are for a friend in Florida, so they are the only snow hat and gloves she'll ever need!
The thin walls of prefabricated concrete at the pedestrian crossing at the west end of Pinhal Novo station were a favorite hangout for the locals. On both sides of the crossing. Just watching the people while the trains keep on moving. Killing time.
Like this freight coming from the Algarve line that threads through the station. Blanting for attention with its French two-tone horn.
The 1900 class was for freight only and are close cousins to the 'Grande Bleues' of the SNCF. The Pielstick engines make quite an enjoyable music, and as far as exhaust silencers are concerned... If there's any, it's not very effective.
So maybe after the freight is gone the man might leave for town having a chat on the way, enjoying a Super Bock at a bar and then back home in time for lunch.

You cannot visit Brugge, and return without a photo with or of a SWAN. Why Swans in Brugge?
THE LEGEND:
At the end of the 15th century, the oppressed people of Bruges rose in revolt against the unpopular Emperor Maximilian of Austria.
They captured Maximilian and imprisoned him in the Craenenburg House on the Market Square, together with his equally unpopular adviser, Pieter Lanckhals.
Lanckhals was condemned to death and Maximilian was forced to watch the execution.
The Emperor eventually escaped and later took his revenge: he decreed that ‘until the end of time’ the city should be required at its own expense to keep swans on all its lakes and canals.
And why swans? Because swans have long necks – and the Flemish for ‘long neck’ is ‘lange hals’ – or ‘lanckhals’!
And so a city legend was born…
THE FACT? More likely…
The first swans in Bruges go back to the Middle Ages.
In the early 15th century, Bruges bought the right to keep swans from the Count of Flanders.
At that time swans were a symbol of distinction.
The killing or stealing swans was forbidden.
Swans were first mentioned in the city accounts in 1403.
At that time the swans tended to stay on the vests around the city because the canals were the water highways of the city and too busy for the swans.

The mute swan is commonly associated with romance because of its stark white beauty, graceful swimming and the fact that it mates for life.
Yet there are many things most people don’t know about this swan, including that it is not native to North America and it can be one of the most aggressive waterfowl.
I chose the graphic composition, because I wanted something different. Hope you like it too.
