My daughter spotted this in the garden one evening perched on a small clump of bluebells (the spanish sort!) however it was a bit too dark to do any photography, so after going out in the morning to photograph the grizzled skipper, came back and we took some shots before the sun got too high.

I have photographed this bird several times before. Last year, he was unable to close his beak with that elongated deformed top beak of his, but I noticed in these photos that he now can keep his mouth closed. It leaves me wondering how he managed to heal himself.

I don't like it hectic; I like to keep it calm and do my thing - play the pass. I think you see the pass if you are in a good state of mind.

With a sudden “crack!” of pyrotechnics, a mockup of NASA’s Orion spacecraft released its grip on a set of cables and began a graceful, deliberate dive toward a pool 14 feet below.

Instead of an Olympic-style feat of athletics, it was a mighty stroke of engineering — and an essential step forward in NASA’s journey to Mars.

Onlookers gathered near the Hydro Impact Basin at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, applauded and cheered. They had just witnessed the simulated water landing of a space capsule, through the use of a 7.2-ton mockup covered with sensors capable of detecting forces that the structure and its astronaut crew would experience.

Moel Eilio makes a great viewpoint, to the east, the mighty Snowdon, to the north, Elidir Fawr and the Glyderau, all the more atmospheric with clouds drifting on and off the mountains whilst patches of sunshine dance on the landscape.

The twelve-sided Keep at Cardiff is the finest in Wales and is known as a ‘shell’ keep. Its outer walls provided a shell for smaller buildings within it. From the top of the Keep the panoramic views of the city are breath-taking and to the north you can see as far as Castell Coch. There are approximately 50 steep stone steps leading to the Keep entrance and further steps to reach the viewing platform, but it’s worth the effort!

Standing on a great Norman motte (man made hill), this stone keep was built around 1140, possibly in response to a Welsh uprising. The last great Welsh uprising began in 1400, and in 1404 the town of Cardiff was burned and the castle sacked by Owain Glyndwr.

I keep thinking summer is done, but it just keeps going here. 87F/30C today... definitely summer dress weather!

Time for a shot or two from the trusty old Lumix LX3. Still going strong. Got chatting to this guy and he was an interesting and gentlemanly person.

Don't think I've bought any new gift wrapping decorations for a long time (or paper, come to think of it!). Any product that comes with pretty ribbons or tape, especially ready-tied bows, I keep to be re-used.

This image, and all the others I took of this subject, would have benefitted greatly from even a modest amount of fill flash. Just when you think you'll never need that flash again, a situation comes along that proves you wrong. In this case, the combination of backlighting, dark skin tone and white hair rendered a natural-light portrait virtually unattainable.

High up in the Mitgardian peaks a small village thrives on the freezing environment. To protect themselves from raiders they built a small castle to keep (pun intended but still not funny :P) watch. The castles position makes it a hard place to take and easy to defend. No siege could last in this frigid environment. This weather does not bother the inhabitants of the village as cold is all they will ever know. So life carried on in the isolated village of Fimbůlvatr, that is until the drow missionary came. Not soon after did the Nocturnus resistance have a new enemy to fear...

CCC XIV - Ice castle (or a castle built in the snow)

It's here at last, after a build time that took way to long and three photo shoots I am finally ready to post one of my best creations yet. The round tower was loads of fun to achieve and the rock work was incredibly difficult to get right. The landscape itself probably took up half the build time. The Tudor work was challenging but it came out alright imo. For some reason I have been putting off building this and I now have a large collection of spaceships in my room :P I didn't edit it because when I did it looked rather awkward so i thought it better to just leave it as it is. Also my first entry for the CCC with more on the way. I know this will be up against massive and amazing entries (cough cough SK) but I had the idea and knew I had to build it. Hope you enjoy :D
