Senators Somers and Formica joined hospital officials, local police and local officials as Lawrence + Memorial Hospital announced it was providing funding for a supply of Narcan, the drug used to treat victims of an opioid overdose, to 11 local communities.
Municipalities and governments receiving the supply from hospital funding include East Lyme, Groton City, Groton Long Point, Groton Town, Ledyard, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Mohegan Tribal Nation, Montville, New London, Stonington and Waterford.
The hospital is investing approximately $10,000 for this effort. October 3, 2017

Minnow is a remarkable debut novel that evokes the fiction of Karen Russell and Matt Bell—a Lowcountry Heart of Darkness about the mysteries of childhood, the sacrifices we make to preserve our families, and the ghosts that linger in the Spanish moss of the South Carolina barrier islands.
Born and raised in Beaufort, SC, McTeer is the winner of the 2015 South Carolina First Novel Prize. A school librarian in Columbia, SC, he is the grandson of the late J. E. McTeer, whose 37 years as High Sheriff of the Lowcountry (and local witch doctor) served as inspiration for Minnow.

"...'Join, or Die' is a well-known political cartoon, created by Ben Franklin and first published in his Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754. The original publication by the Gazette is the earliest known pictorial representation of colonial union produced by a British colonist in America. It is a woodcut showing a snake severed into eighths, with each segment labeled with the initials of a British American colony or region. New England was represented as one segment, rather than the four colonies it was at that time. In addition, Delaware and Georgia were omitted completely. Thus, it has 8 segments of snake rather than the traditional 13 colonies. The cartoon appeared along with Franklin's editorial about the "disunited state" of the colonies, and helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity. During that era, there was a superstition that a snake which had been cut into pieces would come back to life if the pieces were put together before sunset. It is also noted that the snake [a rattlesnake] was chosen because it is native to the America's & by nature, does not strike unless provoked..."

Driven by these character traits, MEM students formed the ESCP Europe Energy Society to further enhance their time at the School.
On 21st March 2015, they hit the road in a Nissan LEAF electric car for the first stage of their multicampus tour. The plan is to drive to all five ESCP Europe campuses (Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid and Torino) in a vehicle powered by renewable energy, combining networking and a forward-thinking attitude with the international spirit of ESCP Europe.
This inaugural stage not only provided first-hand experience with electric vehicles (such as charging e-cars and appropriate route planning), but will also a great opportunity to network with Alumni.

Coast Guard Academy members join together to recognize a select group of faculty and staff who were presented with the Spirit of the Bear award, Jan. 6, 2020.
The Spirit of the Bear recipients were selected due to their strict adherence to the service's core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty, and for their direct influence in the personal growth and professional development of the Corps of Cadets and their fellow shipmates.
The event followed the Academy Corps of Cadets change of watch ceremony.
