Greenpeace activists joined a 15-foot tall monster in a visit to Nestlé’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia delivering Nestlé plastic pollution gathered from streets, rivers, and beaches across the country and demanding that Nestlé take responsibility for the over 1.5 million metric tons of single-use plastic it produces annually. “It’s time for Nestlé to end its reliance on single-use plastics and move toward systems of reuse,†said Greenpeace Plastics Campaigner Kate Melges, who helped return the plastics to the company. “Nestlé has created a monster by producing endless quantities of throwaway plastics that persist in our environment for lifetimes. It’s time for the company to own its mess and stop pushing false solutions that will never solve this crisis.â€

"...'Join, or Die' is a well-known political cartoon, created by Ben Franklin and first published in his Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754. The original publication by the Gazette is the earliest known pictorial representation of colonial union produced by a British colonist in America. It is a woodcut showing a snake severed into eighths, with each segment labeled with the initials of a British American colony or region. New England was represented as one segment, rather than the four colonies it was at that time. In addition, Delaware and Georgia were omitted completely. Thus, it has 8 segments of snake rather than the traditional 13 colonies. The cartoon appeared along with Franklin's editorial about the "disunited state" of the colonies, and helped make his point about the importance of colonial unity. During that era, there was a superstition that a snake which had been cut into pieces would come back to life if the pieces were put together before sunset. It is also noted that the snake [a rattlesnake] was chosen because it is native to the America's & by nature, does not strike unless provoked..."

On Friday, August 16, 2019, District 4 Councilman Alberto Torres Jr. visited each elementary school in his district to distribute 100 backpacks and supplies to 100 identified underprivileged students in need. Joining him were partners Webb County Constable for Precinct 1 Rodolfo “Rudy” Rodriguez Jr., Webb County Commissioner for Precinct 3 John Galo, LISD Board President Hector “Tito” Garcia and Whataburger Restaurants.
Patrons joined us to celebrate the 100th Year Anniversary of Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna! The Centennial SummerFest and Organization Day took place August 15, 2018, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Installation Fest Area (Riverview Golf Course Practice Range). This year’s event featured a special appearance from the U.S. Army Parachute Team, the “Golden Knights”, as well as a performance by Dance Spectacular Productions featuring the “Chicago Honey Bear Dancers” and our very own children registered in CYP participating in the Dance Workshop! Patrons enjoyed a fun-filled day with various activities to include: the Centennial Car & Bike Show, riding the mechanical bull, free swimming at the pool, and were invited to stop by the MWR Booth to participate in the Sponsor Scavenger Hunt to enter for their chance to WIN a 55" Flat Screen TV! There was live music, various chances to win prizes, free goodies, vendors selling tasty food and unique merchandise, military static displays, Scottish bagpipes, stilt walkers, clowns, bounce houses, and much more! This was an opportunity of a lifetime...we celebrated our Centennial Year in style! A huge thank you to all those who participated, supported, and enjoyed this day!
Cantoni teamed up with Joining Hearts, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to providing housing support to people living with HIV and AIDS in Atlanta, to host the charity's annual Love on the Rocks party on February 9th. Over 450 Atlantans attended the Valentine's Day themed event which featured a silent auction including our LOV chair, cocktails by Ketel One, hors d'oeuvres by Bridge Catering and DJ sets by Scott Anthony.
