Monique (on the right) and I have known each other since 5th grade. I love
her dearly as a friend. So this year she is graduating from CSULA and asked me
to take her photos and of course, I was more than happy. My goal of this shot
was to put the SB-800 into use to get some more trial and errors. After a bunch,
I finally got it and we were able to achieve great results. See more on the
official gallery where you can see it all. Sure, people were looking at me
weird becuase I was lugging around my equipment and a tripod around the campus,
but I didn't care. The shot came out so nice that I wanted to see how I would
look like in a shoot. As you guys know, us as photographers don't have the
chance to be in photos because we're always the one behind the cameras, so it
was nice to finally have a good photo of Monique and I. I'm going to print and
frame this one. Although this photo isn't as clear as I want it to due to the
timer and me not being behind the camera to make sure everything looks great, i
still like it. In the end, i had lots of grass stains on my knees and elbows,
but it was all worth it. Photography itself is worth it.

Sul lungo mare di Aci Trezza c'è uno scoglio imponente a cui il vento e le intemperie hanno dato una forma tutta particolare. Scendendo una decina di gradini dal marciapiede del "passeggio", si arriva facilmente alla sua base. Il 29 febbraio 2012, quando ho scattato questa foto, lì sotto c'era un fotografo professionista impegnato a ritrarre una modella un tantino tracagnotta piazzata esattamente dovre avrei voluto mettermi io a scattare foto. Ma il sole stava per scendere sotto l'orizzonte e io non potevo aspettare, così ho preso la risoluzione di arrampicarmi sullo scoglio nella speranza, aggirandolo, di ritrovare lo scorcio che volevo fotografare. Dopo aver superato un paio di punti "critici" e, come al solito, essermi chiesto chi me lo facesse fare, ho raggiunto l'ottima postazione da cui ho scattato questa foto. Però non ho avuto neanche il tempo di godermi il meritato orgoglio per aver portato a compimento l'impresa temeraria, che un paio di bimbi sulla decina di anni mi avevano già raggiunto e superato, arrampicandosi per giunta sul punto più alto dello scoglio per gridare a squarcia gola: "Papàààààà, guarda dove siamo!". Sono rimasti un paio di minuti, e con la stessa agilità con cui erano apparsi si sono dileguati. Dopo i bambini, sono stato raggiunto anche da una coppia di fidanzati adolescenti e relativo codazzo di amici. Insomma, c'era più confusione su quello scoglio che sul marciapiede. Senza contare che il mio orgoglio ne usciva particolarmente devastato: pensavo di aver compiuto chissa quale impresa, mentre la gente lì ci andava a passeggio. Solo al ritorno mi sono reso conto di un fatto un tantino imbarazzante: il punto che avevo raggiunto con non indifferente sprezzo del pericolo poteva benissimo raggiungersi molto più facilmente da un'altra via, quella che avevano preso i bimbi, i fidanzati e il relativo codazzo di amici.

She was reading Shakespeare, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and Moby Dick while embodying the classical goddesses and elemental archetypes herself!

Quoting from The New-York Historical Society’s site:
“It's made from three simple folding stools that can be joined together, and it has a canvas top stretched on a folding wooden frame. The boards you see on three sides held mattress padding in place. The whole thing was easy to fold up and transport from camp to camp. It's six-and-a-half feet long, so it just barely fit General Washington, who was 6'2" tall. It probably wasnt very comfortable, aut it was luxurious compared to his troops, who often had to sleep on the ground. This simple bed is probably the most personal object used by George Washington that the Historical Society owns. It reminds us of the realities of his military career rather than the elegant images we see of him in uniform, or the distinguished portraits of him as President. After the war, Washington entrusted this bed to his secretary, Richard Varick, who was later elected mayor of New York. Varick passed it on through his family until it was presented to the Historical Society in 1871.”

The new season of dexter 1-4 begins shooting this month and will premiere in the fall on Showtime.
