The project was done on a sweat shirt and turned into a jacket. The sweat shirt had an embroidery design on one side that I no longer liked so that is where the large leaf is placed. The leaves are done in reverse appliqué and regular appliqué using the sashiko stitches to go around the leaf. This allows the design to fray in both the reverse appliqué and regular appliqué designs. All leaves are stitched around them in sashiko, and the veins were are done by free hand in sashiko. The large leaf with was done in reverse appliqué and I did add some batting and backing to it so the leaf had some definition. The areas around the bands are stitched also with sashiko. The leaves were from the master works leaves designs 1 and 2. I turned each into an appliqué and sent them to studio and removed the satin stitch part and resized them. From that point I made templates for the leaves and placed them on the sweat shirt. Hope this helps out with the information.

The Yellow Jackets is the name used for all of the intercollegiate athletic teams that play for the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.The band plays the fight songs Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech and Up With the White and Gold after every football score and between every basketball period. At the end of a rendition of either fight song, there is a series of drum beats followed by the cheer "Go Jackets" three times (each time followed by a second cheer of "bust their ass"), then a different drum beat and the cheer "Fight, Win, Drink, Get Naked!" The official cheer only includes "Fight, Win" but all present other than the band and cheerleaders will yell the extended version.

Red Jacket, a small brass cannon, was first used in firing a salute of 500 guns when Georgia seceded from the Union. In custody of the Columbus Guards, it fired salutes at the inauguration of Jefferson Davis as President of the Confederate States of America at Montgomery, Alabama. Feb 18, 1861. Red Jacket was purchased by Mrs. Laura Beecher Comer in 1861 and presented to the Columbus Guards. During the war period it was used to fire salutes to the to Confederate victories in the army and navy. When a Federal army approached Columbus in 1865, some member of the Columbus Guards, fearing the little gun would be captured threw in into the Chattahoochee River near the city wharf. Four years later it was accidentally drawn up on the fluke of an anchor. The finders sold it as junk and it was carried to New York City and bought by J. W. Godfrey, an armorer. A newspaper reporter saw Red Jacket and wrote a description of it in a New York paper. The clipping was sent to L.H. Chappell, then Captain of the Columbus guards. In 1884 correspondence ensued and Mr. Godfrey restored the gun to the Columbus guards. In 1930 Red Jacket was stolen from its carriage on Upper Broad Street and conveyed to the river bank. When fired, it burst into many pieces. Alva C. Smith, secretary – treasurer of the Historical Society of Columbus found all the pieces and had the gun mended and rebuilt.
