This is Rosi, she is a Chihuahua. I met her in the park with her owner. She said the red jacket is not Rosi's warmest jacket, but the most beautiful. I agree ;-)

I took this photo of the Nicholson 70 while she was on her first sea trials in The Solent in 1982. I was a foreman boatbuilder at the time working for Camper & Nicholsons in charge of the fit out. I was out in a motorboat taking a video of her and the South African skipper of Blue Jacket gave me his still camera and asked me to take some shots with it. This is one of those which he presented to me as a framed print when they were about to leave for charters in the West Indies. I recently took a shot of the print with my Canon camera.

So its not too bad considering.

Yellow rain jacket

Wow......what a gorgeous day at the beach.I actually had to remove my jacket, the sun was just so warm and comforting....I could feel tingling on my head...and that is a really cool thing..... ;-)

I sat on my back porch watching a humming bird contend with a yellow jacket. It occurred to me that this was like me being confronted with a timber wolf wielding a poisonous sword.

I visited Great Brook Farm today while in the Carlisle area. It's a dairy farm surrounded by a beautiful state park. This calf, tagged 1525, came over to see me right away. I gave her some pats on her neck and big head, but she was mostly interested in in licking my jacket. For this photo, I used my wide angle lens, holding the camera over the fence.

Even though I was surrounded by mountains, lakes and amazing landscape... the buzzy things still caught my attention.

We were in the Okanagan Valley at a fancy winery called Summerhill, and no, I did not sample any LOL, my cousin and I chose to stay outside in the blistering heat and photograph some of the flowers and wildlife.

Anyway, we've arrived at the weekend, and lo and behold, I have to work this morning aarrgghh. Thankfully it's only until lunch time and then I can go spend some time with my family :)

I am not fond of these wasps at all! Nearly every year I "find" a new ground nest of them. By find, I mean, I get stung by them. Generally multiple times. But this year tops that. They got into a window unit AC, ruined it so it no longer will run and have generally been having a grand time in the now closed off bedroom. Happily I haven't had a need for this bedroom so today, hopefully it's cold enough the old AC is going away and a new one put in. I suspect the queen is still there. These yellow jackets are hungry and they fly all over the small evergreen bushes in my yard looking for sap. :(

A cold and windy day, insects are very slow and sluggish, and taking refuge clinging to flowers and leaves. Easy to get within photographic reach of this yellow jacket hornet (Dolichovespula arenaria), clinging to white alyssum....

It has been cold and rainy for the past couple of days. Peanut needed to try on her jacket to make sure it still fit.
