The gentleman told me he had created the lion Jacket by cutting the lion's face from a beach towel and the sewing it on to the jacket himself 20 years ago when he was serving in the army.

Jackets of the Renaissance and earlier did not have sleeves that were completely enclosed. This turns out to be good ventilation and saved me trying to make it so with the pattern I was using which was for a Renaissance doublet with tie-on sleeves. I also liked the idea of having the inside of my elbows ventilated so I added a flap closed vent that could be buttoned opened.

I frogged the Sunrise Circle Jacket (became waaay too long... will need some serious recalculations) and am re-using the yarn for this pattern. I'm loving it so far and think it'll turn out great! Simple and smart pattern.
