While I am a fan of EMD especially in the mountains when the SP received this AC4400Ws I really liked they way they looked and it was nice to see new power on the SP. It seemed you could find them every where along the Rio Grande. Seen here at Belden climbing famed Tennessee Pass with coal for the Midwest. June 1995
At least that's what I imagine this little crocus is saying.
Apologies for being behind after a busy weekend, look forward to catching up now.
HBM! This was taken in Tobago, T&T at Store Bay, a popular tourist spot near to the airport. I remember washing the white sand off my feet.....:) Best seen large by clicking on the photo.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy your Monday!
It may be gloomy, but it is a gloomy image that can't be repeated. A Conrail SD60 leading a SP run-through westbound was stopped under the Chicago Central to pick up a rider as a pair of Chicago and North Western C40-8s pulled across after delivering a train to Hawthorne.
By the time the SD60 pulled, the North Western motors had backed off the bridge and out of sight.
Being your own boss and company owner has its perks...you can stop and set up a camera and a tripod when a fabulous storm settles right on top of your location. I set up my tripod and started setting the exposure. This photo is a bit soft, not because I moved the tripod, but this bolt of lightning was so close that when it hit it actually shook the ground just enough to bump the tripod!!
Now that's electrifying!
I'm not completely dead. Pasta (and her human) were the only ones that noticed I had dropped out for a couple of days.
Anywho (BenKitty hates when I say "anywho", so that's why I say it) - feeling better today. I'll wander by your streams tonight.
I'm sure you're all excited now.
It appears that the large boulders in Ferguson Canyon tend to hold back all the most brilliant-colored sediment deposits whenever there is high water. The water there almost looks golden.
A close friend of mine bought this lovely bracelet as a gift for me in Israel . She brought another similar one for my daughter.
"It´s the Little Thing" when a friend thinks of me even when she is on a journey.
Eine sehr gute Freundin hat mir dieses Armband als Geschenk aus Israel mitgebracht. Es ist ein "Little Thing" für mich, wenn gute Freunde an einen denken, sogar während einer Reise.
Moved it up so I could proclaim.......Best of Show at the Sonoma - Marin Fair! ;-)
An American Dipper did the "Dipper Dance" somewhere nearby while I shot sunset at what I think of as simply riverview. Thank you to Tony Immoos for giving me the correct name for this spot---"Valley View". ;-) Remarkably, despite being a lovely, lovely evening with great potential for a spectacular sunset (which never quite materialized), I shared this spot with only the Dippers and my guy. ;-)
For those contemplating a trip to Yosemite for fall color, come ASAP. ;-) The cottonwoods in the upper valley near the village are nearly stripped of leaves, BUT much of the valley is glowing with color right now. Come quick!!
It's always a treat to get close to shorebirds, and I was thrilled when this one gave a perfect head turn and called right in front of me. D500 300 PF 1/2000 f/4 ISO 2000.

Carolina wrens are small but very vocal animals. Males are especially outgoing and are the only ones to produce songs. They employ one of the loudest songs per volume of birds. They are apt to sing anytime and anyplace they happen to be.
Carolina wrens are monogamous, and breeding pairs may stay together for years.

Although I had to work early the next morning, it was worth losing a little sleep over this! Word came down on the Midwest Heads Up group that NS 1066 was trailing on the CP 472 job, but then they cut off the leader and had 1066 on the point. Once that was confirmed, it was a matter of charging batteries, and waiting patiently. I knew exactly what shot I wanted, and how to do it better from the last time I had done this over the summer. With lessons learned, here's the CP 472 job with the Norfolk Southern New York Central "heritage" unit, painted in their scheme, honoring the fallen railroad, and passing by the large grain elevator at Stillman Valley, Illinois. 8 Yongnuo 560iii strobes (aka flashes) were used to accomplish the shot. Thanks to Grant Hansen, R.G. Hough and others for the heads up and progress reports on this train!

it just seemed so warm and beautiful.....so I wanted to share it ...hope you get warm little fuzzies in your soul...and its a cool pink...got to love it!

A Gila Woodpecker and a Harris's antelope ground squirrel each tried to claim the seed block in my back yard. The squirrel won.

RSPB green status list.
Tricky photo to catch with the branch bouncing up and down in the strong wind. I think this bird was trying to stare down the sparrowhawk instead of diving for cover. Eventually the sparrowhawk moved on to hunt somewhere else.

It's funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small.

I went to my favorite Lantana hoping to get shots of Hummingbirds, which I did. However, the butterflies were even more prevalent. So, being a happy photographer, I took lots of shots of butterflies.
