While I am a fan of EMD especially in the mountains when the SP received this AC4400Ws I really liked they way they looked and it was nice to see new power on the SP. It seemed you could find them every where along the Rio Grande. Seen here at Belden climbing famed Tennessee Pass with coal for the Midwest. June 1995
At least that's what I imagine this little crocus is saying.
Apologies for being behind after a busy weekend, look forward to catching up now.
It may be gloomy, but it is a gloomy image that can't be repeated. A Conrail SD60 leading a SP run-through westbound was stopped under the Chicago Central to pick up a rider as a pair of Chicago and North Western C40-8s pulled across after delivering a train to Hawthorne.
By the time the SD60 pulled, the North Western motors had backed off the bridge and out of sight.
Being your own boss and company owner has its perks...you can stop and set up a camera and a tripod when a fabulous storm settles right on top of your location. I set up my tripod and started setting the exposure. This photo is a bit soft, not because I moved the tripod, but this bolt of lightning was so close that when it hit it actually shook the ground just enough to bump the tripod!!
Now that's electrifying!
Flint wishes it would snow so that he can dig tunnels with his nose and run around like a maniac!
I've been waiting for the wind and rain to die down so I could bring the snowflakes outside, but I finally got tired of waiting and decided to shoot this inside instead. I waited for the blue hour so I could use the blue color for the background and used regular room lighting to light Flint.
I sometimes do test runs of ideas before I shoot "for real." Anyone else do this? I want to make sure the setup is safe for Flint and that I sort of know what I'm doing before I involve him. (In this case, I had never shot at blue hour before and wanted to see what it would look like on the computer first.) I can be more relaxed while I figure things out and not have to worry about "paying" him. Plus, this saves me from having to give him a trim and a brush beforehand, which can sometimes take awhile.
Anyway, this photo was supposed to be one of those test runs, but Flint was asking me to take pictures of him (really, he does this! He'll sit in front of me and stare so I'll take a picture of him instead of whatever I'm trying to take a picture of). So, I took a few of him and the snowflakes thinking that I'll take pictures for real the next day, but I just couldn't let go of his expression in this one.
I'm not completely dead. Pasta (and her human) were the only ones that noticed I had dropped out for a couple of days.
Anywho (BenKitty hates when I say "anywho", so that's why I say it) - feeling better today. I'll wander by your streams tonight.
I'm sure you're all excited now.
Sure, it's not the greatest picture, but it's better than the other pictures I got!
South Padre Island, Texas. April 2019.
Moved it up so I could proclaim.......Best of Show at the Sonoma - Marin Fair! ;-)
An American Dipper did the "Dipper Dance" somewhere nearby while I shot sunset at what I think of as simply riverview. Thank you to Tony Immoos for giving me the correct name for this spot---"Valley View". ;-) Remarkably, despite being a lovely, lovely evening with great potential for a spectacular sunset (which never quite materialized), I shared this spot with only the Dippers and my guy. ;-)
For those contemplating a trip to Yosemite for fall color, come ASAP. ;-) The cottonwoods in the upper valley near the village are nearly stripped of leaves, BUT much of the valley is glowing with color right now. Come quick!!
It's always a treat to get close to shorebirds, and I was thrilled when this one gave a perfect head turn and called right in front of me. D500 300 PF 1/2000 f/4 ISO 2000.

It's 2.5 km from the car park to the entrance of Mont Saint Michel, but it feels like you are on some sort of an epic journey as you walk toward this unique historic site. Seeing this beautiful island perched on vast sandbanks is an unforgettable experience and it's amazing to think it will be completely cut off from the mainland during high tide.
Have a great weekend flickroos : )
It's the time of year again that poppy fields start making an appearance and its an opportunity not to be missed!
Plus the face they never seem to pop up in the same field two years running makes them an adventure to find!
Il fait chaud ces jours-ci à Bordeaux... et ça fait tourner les têtes :)
Please don't post here any glitter text and images, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
My new favourite thing

Working with Lotte in the studio on this project was once again a wonderful experience. It was our first collaboration in this context, and I think we’ll be working together more often in the future.
"short films – …and then we‘ll call it even"
In the silent arena of our minds, where thoughts dance like invisible actors, a profound equality among us all is revealed. These inner conflicts, which do not manifest themselves in the outside world, are the invisible threads that weave the fabric of human existence. They are the silent struggles that each of us, regardless of gender or external circumstances, wages in the depths of our souls. These inner struggles are not mere challenges, but essential components of human existence that initiate us into the mysteries of life.
Every person faces their own inner battles, which are unique in their intensity and significance. These psychological struggles cannot be compared, as they are an expression of each individual's journey through the depths of consciousness. They are the touchstones that shape us and lead us to explore the limits of our being. Overcoming these inner conflicts holds the possibility of growth, transformation, and enlightenment.
The pursuit of overcoming these inner struggles is a deeply personal and often solitary journey. It challenges us to look into the darkness within ourselves and find the glimmers of light that guide us. In this inner argument lies the chance to discover the essence of our being and strengthen the connection to our true self. Thus, these inner conflicts are not only tests, but also invitations to self-knowledge and spiritual development.

I kept this series practically closed as a self-portrait series for a very long time. I think it’s time to open it up and at the same time connect it to my overarching theme, the portraits.
As a rule, these are long exposure shots with exposure times varying between 2 and 30 seconds. In this case 6 seconds. They are series that deal with a range of human feelings and thoughts. They deal with desire, loss, regret and pain and the attempt to process all of this.
It’s been a while since I had a stroll through St Mary the Virgin’s graveyard, Wirksworth Derbyshire.

A Gila Woodpecker and a Harris's antelope ground squirrel each tried to claim the seed block in my back yard. The squirrel won.

Tricky photo to catch with the branch bouncing up and down in the strong wind. I think this bird was trying to stare down the sparrowhawk instead of diving for cover. Eventually the sparrowhawk moved on to hunt somewhere else.
We're getting our first "real" snowfall here tonight. L516 slogs through the snow after picking up a cut of autoracks. This pair of SD60s has been protecting one of the L516/L517 pairs while the other features a GEVO and a KCS SD70ACe. December 10, 2021.

I went to my favorite Lantana hoping to get shots of Hummingbirds, which I did. However, the butterflies were even more prevalent. So, being a happy photographer, I took lots of shots of butterflies.
