When the bag is wide open, the cross bar is exposed. It also acts as 'security'. You can't remove the bag without removing the crossbar. I'll just need to remember to take my wallet and phone into the store with me when I park the bike

Our station Signal box suffered a fire last night.
Here we can see the inside of the box. These levers were installed in 1895, the box itself dates from the 1870's. Until yesterday evening, this signal box was in very good condition for a 120+ year old wooden building and was still in use.
It is hard to say that I'm devastated by the loss of a signal box, there are much worse things happening in the world but on a personal level this has made me very sad. I can see this from my house and I will miss it. A man from Network Rail Maintenance told me it is likely to be demolished. A real shame, it added extra character to our station.
I really hope this was an accident, still waiting to hear.

Drilling and installing the depressurizing wells prior to digging out the mercury.
The wells allow crews to lower the water table level so they can dig into the ground without it filling up with water.
The yellow building in the background in the old mercury cell building. It will be torn down after the excavation and treatment of the mercury in the ground is complete.

Some of the Berkeley landscape architecture students decided to participate in Park(ing) Day. We built a park in a parking spot for people to picnic in. It was really fun to unroll the sod.
