I had to draw the evening sun lighting up the globes but I was stoolless but managed to find a wall to sit on at almost the best position.

A passing local told me this was her favourite part of the town. I said that I loved the cobbles. She said “only with flat soled shoes”.

While I was drawing this, the snowplough drove past and the snow was gone.

This was hard work. I thought I could get the whole building on one page in one sitting, in the end it was scattered over 5 pages. I had to go back twice to finish the sketch. Trams kept stopping in the view. And it kept raining. And it was cold.

Drawn in the road under a streetlight so I could see my sketchbook and the cars could see me.

I like to take walks in my suburban neighbourhood. Although my route is sometimes repetitive, the scenery changes with the seasons and the weather to make it interesting. This scene is from a series of photos that I took on a recent walk when I was searching to find scenes to sketch. My sketch attempts to illustrate a crisp winter morning on a street near my home. While the scene may not be breath-taking, the temperature was!

J'aime me promener dans mon quartier résidentiel.

A collage of a photocopied page from Emily and Anne Brontes' diary, with a pen and ink sketch, drawn in a similar style to the Brontes ', of me journaling at my desk and out in nature.

This was drawn on the open momument day and I’d hoped I could go up the tower for a view of the city but it was shut so I drew the view of the interior.

Just a 180° turn from the last sketch.

Stopped sketching and crossed the road as an aggressive dog passed.

Drawn from Kanonen Bar. The waitress said that I have to draw quickly, the sun will disappear at 2:30 pm. She also said leave out the crane, it’ll look better without it!

Whenever I had a free day in Tokyo, this was the street I enjoyed walking the most. Summer was terrible in Japan as the weather was hot and extremely humid. I sweated all the time and it felt horribly uncomfortable in crowded places. But here in Omoto Sando, like an oasis, the trees gave lots of shade on both sides of the street. Supposedly a trendy area, this section was filled with young people making all kinds of fashion statement, small specialty shops and cute tiny restaurants. It had a bohemian atmosphere. Yet somehow I often thought of Blvd Haussman in Paris whenever I was here. The feeling was the same but the places were quite different.

Drawn to the sound of a history tour. I heard from 42 till 1842!

This was drawn in angled sunlight. It’s a bit too angled and I rushed before the sun disappeared.

Although I have a lot of sketchbooks filled with drawings, this is the first book I've ever used to fill every page, (also the front and back cover) with a drawing in ink. I began in March 2016 and every night I would draw something in ink. I drew from photos, I doodled nonsense, I used rulers and circle templates. The only rule I gave myself was that I had to use ink and I couldn't sketch in pencil first. Mistakes were made but it was okay, it was very freeing.

While I was sketching a man showed me his selfie he took with the flag to send to his girlfriend in Ukraine. Afterwards, a Ukrainian mothar and son posed for a selfie with the flag. Later on an old man walked up to the flag stopped and sung, with a good voice, what I presume had been the national anthem. After singing he carried on walking.
