The Gentleman on the right would have been 105 today but only had a short time left with us when I took "this" photograph in 1984. It was a reasonable silhouette of a family on a windy promenade in Blackpool but I wanted to add a bit more context where the sky and sea had become one. This stylised ink drawing was made when I mounted the negative in my enlarger and traced and coloured over the projected image.

In this crystal ball

So he beheld attentively though

He saw nothing, but

He knew

Something happened, but

He was abandoned

He was abandoned out

Of the crystal ball, he was abandoned out

Of something huge which was unknown

but was so critical to happen and was happening

And happened.

Immeuble de style Hausmannien, édifié dans les années 1890 par l'architecte Lorientais Stephen Gallot, qui a résisté à la destruction de la ville pendant la seconde guerre mondiale.

Drawn to the sound of waves and kids playing on beach.

I’ve been waiting for ages to draw the forester’s garden full of heavy forestry machinery but his hedge has grown too high so I drew this view opposite as an ersatz.

The woman at the stand on the right came up to see what I was up to. When she saw that it was only a sketch, she said that she was relieved! A visitor walked up and asked how much the sketch would cost. After I told him 20 Euros, he joked that he’ll continue walking.
