Bit too much black; I should of divided the monument from the trees.

This was a commisioned drawing. It was one metre long. As I sat sketching on the busy bridge, blokes in passing cars would shout to me. When there was a jam, they’d be quiet! No idea what they shouted.

A man was sitting on the steps but he left after I started sketching him.

The owner of the palace is standing in the door after giving us an excellent tour of the building. Her marxist art commune didn’t work out as planned and the palace is up for sale.

Before I came to Amsterdam, I had this view in my head. Plenty oy opportunities to draw 17th century houses, next to a canal, with bikes.

Every spring, the water level of rivers and lakes rise once the snows have melted. It's always expected that there will be some amount of flooding but in recent years the flooding has been exceptional. During a short bike ride, I started this sketch of a park along the riverbank of the Ottawa River which is now under water. Many bike paths are now closed because they are also under water. Hopefully in a week or two this will all be gone.

Recently, I had another opportunity to do some quick sketching in downtown Ottawa and parked on a part of Coburg Street that borders on the Lowertown neighbourhood. There's a lot of older houses here, some with a lot of character and some that need a little repair. I thought that this street corner would make a good subject for an ink drawing with the snow making everything look so clean. I sketched it in pencil, took some reference photos and finished it at home.

Drawn to the smell of roasting coffee.

It automatically played a recording of the pilots starting up the engines.

Yet another drawing from yet another cafe in yet another tree filled square!

This commisioned sketch took a while to draw. The longer I sat there I noticed more and more details in the facade. Then I got too cold and had to finish. The next time I came it started raining. To be able to finish the sketch before the deadline, I asked a friend who lives in the same street if he could take some shots of the building and mail them. I hardly ever use photos for my sketches so I felt I was cheating.

Drawn to the sound of airliners and crunching footsteps of passing walkers.

This took a few attempts to finish between the snow showers. I’m not sure if these were tiled or slate roofs.
