We were having lunch in Sydney, and they had these fantastic napkins. I could not see anything inspirational to draw so I drew this view from our office in Terrigal like a magnet. En 1710, la très ancienne église menaçait de tomber en ruine. Une nouvelle église a été érigée et inaugurée en 1722. Puis cette nouvelle église a été détruite en août 1944. La toute nouvelle église Saint Pierre a été édifiée en 1960-1962.

The woman at the stand on the right came up to see what I was up to. When she saw that it was only a sketch, she said that she was relieved! A visitor walked up and asked how much the sketch would cost. After I told him 20 Euros, he joked that he’ll continue walking.

A local, now living in Hawaii, told me that she doesn’t even notice these power lines. For me, it was one of the most dominant features. The building with a “P” is a multistory car park. I guess it has about 12 floors, no windows and a lift takes the cars up to the parking decks. The floor space is not much bigger than a car.

I needed a rest after this sketch.

I've sketched and painted this road in the Upper Gatineau Valley a couple of times over the years from different perspectives. In this latest sketch, the old barn sits on the side of the road surrounded by snow-covered fields and, further away, by a forest. The scene is lovely during every season but particularly in winter when the contrasts are so strong.

J'ai dessiné et peint ce chemin dans la vallée de la Haute-Gatineau à quelques reprises au fil des ans à partir de différentes perspectives. Dans cette dernière esquisse, la vieille grange se trouve au bord du chemin entourée de champs enneigés et, plus loin, d'une forêt. La scène est belle en toutes saisons mais surtout en hiver où les contrastes sont si forts.

I didn’t initially intend to draw every medieval brick church on the bike tour, only after the first couple it became an obsession. They look so similar and are always surrounded by trees so I started a series of sketches.
