This last weekend I was in the Adega Flor de Coimbra in Lapa / Rio de Janeiro with my family to enjoy delicious sardines viceradas - typical Portuguese dish and one of the delicacies of the house which also has one of the best codfish balls of the city. This is a small sketch done on site

Note:....had time to kill once we were checked in. Best thing was to get the drawing out of the way before I was shoved back into the flying sardine can. ;)
...and yes. I am no longer able to give a fig about cropping pages. Too tired. Too many things to do.

Understanding Women
Music & lyrics by Elton John & Bernie Taupin 1992
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rolling over trying to sleep
And understanding women
Thinking of you out there somewhere
Looking for a new beginning
Just let me be the final word
In the book we haven't written
I won't be another page
In understanding women
I could drive to Mexico
On understanding women
Throw myself against the waves
And answer up to heaven
How come her heart's so stubborn
And what's so wrong with giving
Ask the big sky talking
About understanding women
And I'm not just anyone who ever stood outside your door
And I'm not any man you've ever known before
Don't judge this picture by the frame
Every man is not the same
Some men reach beyond the pain
Of understanding women
Over a year ago when we were confined to avoid spreading a potentially deadly virus, I knew much of my photographic adventures would need to be curtailed. In similar time, something by Stephan Marjoram inspired me to fill a bit of time doing something creative. So I took up ink drawing. Just to see what I could do. I "borrowed" from many different styles as I attempt to explore the medium. And with zero photography projects in the queue I might as well fill this space with something. So here goes.

"And there's no way out, no road home
I'm lost in doubt and I'm all alone
The time has come
When love is done
Hearts have finally turned to stone..."

A drawing of Gregory Peck as the one and only "Captain Ahab".
"Hey Ahab can you tell me where
I can catch a ride out of here
Hey Ahab hoist that sail
You've gotta stand up straight
When you ride that whale."

Inspiration: I was looking at pictures taken in Kyoto & reminded how heavy Heian Court robes were when I tried them on.
Result: Kimono doodle
Materials: Pentel 0.3 HB, Platinum Carbon Fountain Pen, Staedtler Karat Aquarell pencils in a Stillman & Birn Alpha series sketchbook ( 21.6 cm 27.9 cm / 8 1/2" x 11")
Location: Home
Note: Happily playing in the Stillman & Birn Alpha sketchbook, which, holds up wonderfully to light washes, as I explore how the Platinum carbon ink handles this paper & reacts with (under & over) other materials. All I could think of, besides loving this paper, is the need to invest in some superior Faber-Castell watercolour pencils...

..it's really had to describe this grey ink other than saying it's like J Herbin's Stormy Grey without the gold flecks. I like this grey a lot. Very warm.
