"Blonde over blue
Your hands are cold, your eyes are fire
Blonde over blue
They shine as though you're burning inside
One word from you is all I need to be inspired
Blonde over blue"

Alternative Facts no.2 ~ the NRA pushing The Hearing Protection Act: in which they want to make silencers easily and widely available to protect the ears of shooters. Apparently regular ear protection gets in the way of the fun. Police organizations are not a fan of silencers....nor would anyone caught in a random mass shooting...hard to duck or run when you think it's just a car backfiring in the distance. On the other hand, the use of headphones on a regular basis, at a level higher than 60db does the same damage as repeated shooting of a gun without protective gear. Statistically in the US, 1 in 5 teens can’t hear rustles or whispers. Personally it just strikes me as a money grab...and a dangerous one at that.

"And reach out for her healing hands
Reach out for her healing hands
There's a light, where the darkness ends
Touch me now and let me see again
Rock me now in your gentle healing hands..."

"Ain't no magic potion
No gri-gri on her side
She's bound to my salvation
Sweet little mama
Take me down by the river tonight
And it amazes me..."

Training myself to draw has been an interesting exercise. I studied the workds of Nicolas de Crecy, the Rat Rod artists, Stephan Marjoram, R.Crumb, S.Clay Wilson and many others. While I certainly will never develop the kind of talent they had, this has been a good way to "kill time" during the various periods of lockdown here in France during the Covid Pandemic.

I can not reproduce it properly because...turquoise, but the closest approximation is this HEX colour code: 0ca2c8

I suddenly had this desire to compine the fine nib trees with fountain pen ink to high light the colour....I might just be feeling weary of winter at this point and living vicariously through those locals that are enjoying blossoms at the moment.

Inspiration: Richard & Mildrid Loving ~ the interracial marriage in 1967 Virginia that changed everything.

Note: Continuing to think about the cases before the U.S. Supreme court regarding recognizing gay marriage and I was slack-jawed about the details of this LIFE magazine article from 1966: “The Crime of Being Married.”

....and while drawing this I kept hearing Bill Murray's voice as Venkman from Ghostbusters, dripping with sarcasm ranting about any marriage debate of the past 100 years: "Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!"....

Note: My youngest has been lured into this fitness craziness by his sister and the amazingly energetic crew at Crossfit Division. Sister is off to university so it's momtaxi, at 5:30 a.m., for me. Thankfully the coffee shop is open at that time and I've books....and a cell with which to relentlessly text the daughter, at whose feet I lay the blame for this.
ink drawing on paper with gouache.
This lady had the most beautiful shiney, thick white braid of hair. The painting doesn't do it justice.
An illustration I did when I worked at Dentsu for Lexus Canada's sponsorship of Buddy Guy at the Roy Thompson hall in Toronto. Wow, that was freak'n long sentence.
2006.
I'm not sure when it occurred to me. Maybe it was criticism that a working artist passed my way. I set the pens down for a month while we were in Nice and let things "sit."
The Muse visited and I started thinking of some really goofy ideas. I said to myself "stuff 'um! I'm doing something silly and I'm doing it for myself."
To explain what these were I did a title page to each drawing. As if it really explained anything, that is.
I first shared these with friends in England during our weekly Zoom calls. We had a "Show and Tell" kind of setup. It was a great way to get beyond the loneliness and to spend time with friends, even if it weren't in person.

Day 23
Dangerous
This year, I will try to make INKTOBER drawings based on popculture, drawn without sketching first.
When I was young, Michael Jackson was named King of Pop. Only later, allegations were made and he was apparently very dangerous.

LIGHT MY FIRE
Music & lyrics by The Doors/Jim Morrison
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire
Try now we can only lose
And our love become a funeral pyre
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire, yeah
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
Come on baby, light my fire
Try to set the night on fire
Try to set the night on fire

Over a year ago when we were confined to avoid spreading a potentially deadly virus, I knew much of my photographic adventures would need to be curtailed. In similar time, something by Stephan Marjoram inspired me to fill a bit of time doing something creative. So I took up ink drawing. Just to see what I could do. And with zero photography projects in the queue, I wanted to fill this space with something. So here goes. I start out be aping M.Marjoram and, as you will later see, I take inspiration from many other sources.

ICE ON FIRE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nikita
Music & lyrics by Elton John & Bernie Taupin 1985
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Nikita is it cold
In your little corner of the world
You could roll around the globe
And never find a warmer soul to know
Oh I saw you by the wall
Ten of your tin soldiers in a row
With eyes that looked like ice on fire
The human heart a captive in the snow
Oh Nikita You will never know anything about my home
I'll never know how good it feels to hold you
Nikita I need you so
Oh Nikita is the other side of any given line in time
Counting ten tin soldiers in a row
Oh no, Nikita you'll never know
Do you ever dream of me
Do you ever see the letters that I write
When you look up through the wire
Nikita do you count the stars at night
And if there comes a time
Guns and gates no longer hold you in
And if you're free to make a choice
Just look towards the west and find a friend
