A portrait of Marianne Rosenberg (1976)

Ink on $teinbach paper

I colored and textures this using the Gimp. The underlying image is a pen and pencil drawing in style of Nicola de Crecy.

Over a year ago when we were confined to avoid spreading a potentially deadly virus, I knew much of my photographic adventures would need to be curtailed. In similar time, something by Stephan Marjoram inspired me to fill a bit of time doing something creative. So I took up ink drawing. Just to see what I could do. I "borrowed" from many different styles as I attempt to explore the medium. And with zero photography projects in the queue I might as well fill this space with something. So here goes.

Inspiration: Line from the GiTS OST, Lithium Flower... "she's incredible math"

Result: Binary Coiffure

Materials: Pentel 0.3 HB, Platinum Carbon Fountain Pen, Faber-Castell Watercolour pencils in a Stillman & Birn Alpha series sketchbook ( 21.6 cm 27.9 cm / 8 1/2" x 11")

Location: Home

Note: I had to use the camera to take a picture of this because idiot me got caught up in the ones and zeroes, drawing right to the edge of the binding so scanning it became problematic....and yeah....that is a lot of 1s & 0s *face palm*...I have no idea what possesses me. *>.<!

ANYway the Stillman & Birn sketchbook continues to be awesome. The Faber-Castell watercolour pencils I scrounged up are not surprisingly brilliant and everything works well with my ink so I'm just all kinds of happy :D

Inspiration: Thinking of the ghastly Edward Gorey alphabet book...

Result: A is for Anna who walked through the wood.

Materials: Pentel 0.3 HB, Platinum Carbon Fountain Pen in a Stillman & Birn Epsilon series sketchbook ( 21.6 cm 27.9 cm / 8 1/2" x 11")

Location: Home while invaded by extended family. Cue the chaos!

Note: I sat down today to write up my own version of the Gashlycrumb Tinies, but involving untimely deaths that might befall mice. Studying Edward Gorey's drawings is a tremendously good way for me to learn & practice designing full scenes in ink. While his light touch of macabre is inspiring, the only one bearing any resemblance to the book is X ...all others are flights of grim fancy brought to you directly from the bleak depths of my own imagination. It's nice to have a plan B to fall back on if I can't come up with anything else to draw. I call it 26 Demice.

"They say we bruise too easily

I don't know if it's that way for me

I've seen 'em come, I've seen 'em go

I've seen everyone I know

Fall in and out of love

It's just the way it goes

Word is out, silence seems so loud

There's no light above or below me now

I've seen it grow, I've seen it live

I've seen everything I give

Falling out my hands, no matter who I'm with

And nobody ever tells you

When love is dying, when love is dying

It just gets a little colder

And we stop trying, we stop trying

Yeah we stop trying

Oh when love is dying

There's a pain you never can explain

It cuts so deep time and time again

I felt it then, I feel it now

But nobody told me how

To fight a world of hurt

Somebody help me now

But love never gets to show you

And I never got to know you

No we never stood a chance

When love was dying

No and love never makes it easy

And I never got that feeling

No we never stood a chance

When love was dying..."

What's the use of hurrying?

There's No Tomorrow

Music & lyrics by Elton John, Leon Russell, James Timothy Shaw, T Bone Burnett 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's no time for waiting

No future to see

Inside the next moment

Nothing might be

The answer's not certain

No time to decide

Is this the last curtain

There's no place to hide

There's no tomorrow

There's no tomorrow

There's no tomorrow

There's only today

We all know the story

We've heard it before

We end up no question

Outside of death's door

There's no easy answer

To the question at hand

So easy to ask

And not understand

PICTURE THIS

Music and lyrics by Blondie 1978

----------------------------------------------------------

"All I want is a room with a view.

A sight worth seeing, a vision of you.

All I want is a room with a view, oh...

I will give you my finest hour, the one I spent watching you shower.

I will give you my finest hour, oh, yeah.

All I want is a photo in my wallet.

A small remembrance of something more solid.

All I want is a picture of you.

Picture this - a day in December.

Picture this - freezing cold weather.

You got clouds on your lids and you'd be on the skids if it weren't for your job at the garage.

If you could only,

Picture this - a sky full of thunder.

Picture this - my telephone number.

One and one is what I'm telling you, oh, yeah.

All I want is 20/20 vision...

A total portrait with no omissions.

All I want is a vision of you, oh...

If you can,

Picture this - a day in December.

Picture this - freezing cold weather.

You got clouds on your lids and you'd be on the skids if it weren't for your job at the garage.

If you could only,

Picture this - a sky full of thunder.

Picture this - my telephone number.

One and one is what I'm telling you.

Get a pocket computer, try to do what ya used to do, yeah.
