Washington Metro, Washington DC
Many Metro stations were designed by Chicago architect Harry Weese, and are examples of late-20th century modern architecture. With their heavy use of exposed concrete and repetitive design motifs, Metro stations display aspects of Brutalist design. The stations also reflect the influence of Washington's neoclassical architecture in their overarching coffered ceiling vaults. Weese worked with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based lighting designer Bill Lam on the indirect lighting used throughout the system. All of Metro's original Brutalist stations are found in Downtown Washington, D.C. and neighboring urban corridors of Arlington, Virginia, while newer stations incorporate simplified cost-efficient designs.

After a couple cold days, humidity came clawing back like some wild creature. By the time I made it to the base of Little River Falls, I was drenched in sweat from skull to soles. I think of this place like the first stop in utter isolation. Not so far from the tri-town busyness of New Minas, Kentville, and Wolfville, these hills rise high from the ragged South Mountain to disappear and dissipate the influence of a land beyond. When I was a kid, we camped on the shores of Sunken Lake. But it was nearly thirty years before I returned to discover what these woods was hiding. Any pool beneath a drop like this is deceptively deep, hollowed out by countless thousands of wild downpours. I feel compelled to hold this place entirely in my mind and memory. It's just the right size for me, like my wife in my arms, like a beauty I'll remember to keep reaching out and touch.

The Promise Foundation is inspired by Promise Campbell, who at the age of twelve benefited greatly through a relationship with a mentor leading her to achieve things far beyond her own expectations.
The Promise Foundation is based at Queens Park Community School in North London where Promise attended school when she was a student.Much of the initial funding to start the foundation was sourced via Yimby, an online crowdfunding tool for social good.
