In the background appears the beautiful Nabateaen Ampitheater which is carved right from the mountain rock. It's a little different from the other ancient theaters in Jordan because of its (grand) setting and the pinkish-red color. Surrounded by a lot of small Nabataean tombs, affirming that it's a part of Petra. The panoramic views of this place from the trek to the Treasury viewpoint are also spectacular.

Touba is a city in central Senegal, part of Diourbel Region and Mbacké district. With a population of 529,176 in 2010 and estimated population of between 1 000 000 and 1 500 000 in 2018, it is the second most populated Senegalese city after Dakar. It is the holy city of Mouridism (Mouride brotherhood) and the burial place of its founder, Shaikh Ahmadou Bamba.
The Mouride make up around 40 percent of the total population in Senegal. Their influence over everyday life can be seen throughout Senegal.

Further to my previous post of the ruined church of St Lawrence, I took this photograph to show what the ubiquitous influence of Sir Lionel Lyde fulfilled. He commissioned this church around 1775 and it was built in 1778 on his land in Ayot St Lawrence, with the entrance facing his house. It was designed by Nicholas Revett, a Suffolk architect who was clearly passionate about classical buildings. The church was to serve the local villagers and also as a mausoleum to Sir Lionel and his wife, as seen by the pavilions on either side of the main structure. I personally think it is an abortion. He was a trader in the Caribbean and the church was undoubtedly built on the proceeds of slavery. As seen by my previous post, he desecrated a consecrated building to satisfy his own vanity.
Even if it does not look like Alhambra, in Pampaneira one discovers the Moorish influence at some corners. Here at the water channel.

The Grote Markt ("Great Market Square") of Antwerp is a town square situated in the heart of the old city quarter. It is filled with an extravagant city hall, numerous elaborate 16th century guildhalls, many restaurants and cafés. Lying within walking distance of the Scheldt river, it hosts a Christmas market and ice rink in winter.
The City Hall (Dutch: Stadhuis of Antwerp), stands on the western side of Antwerp's Grote Markt ("Great Market Square").
Erected between 1561 and 1565 after designs made by Cornelis Floris de Vriendt and several other architects and artists, this Renaissance building incorporates both Flemish and Italian influences. The Stadhuis is listed as one of the Belfries of Belgium and France, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Jan Hus was a Czech church reformer executed in 1415. His teachings had a profound influence on the history of the Czech nation.
Jan Hus’s contribution to the development of the Czech literary language was the introduction of diacritical marks, such as: č, š, ř, ž, á, í, é. The purpose of this innovation was representing each sound by only one symbol and eleminating digraphs (sounds represented by two letters).
The inscription on the monument reads “Milujte se, pravdy každému přejte”, which means more or less: “Love one another, wish the truth to everyone”. This is a shortened version of a quote from one of Hus’s letters from prison. The day of his execution, July 6th, is a public holiday in Czechia (Jan Hus Day).
Hi friends, it's been a while since I've been on flickr and I almost forgot they switched to the new layout. I decided to take a couple weeks off and that turned into almost two months... I've been shooting just not posting. I cant wait to see what everyone has been up to. In the nearly two months off I've totally reworked my processing work flow and wanted to do it without any outside influences and I feel I have got it dialed in. So I guess I've been in a transitional phase you could say.
This is a shot from the Washington coast after a hike out to hole in the rock. I look forward to getting back into the flickr groove and am excited to see what you all have been up to.

Sadly, there were destruction on the coast of the beautiful Riviera Maya. Now, Delta is approaching the coast of the Louisiana, Hope no human losses are given there.

The Grand Place in Lille features an array of architectural styles with various amounts of Flemish influence.
The Mundo Perdido is to the west of the Plaza of the Seven Temples. It is the largest ceremonial complex dating from the Preclassic period at Tikal.
The complex was organised as a large E-Group consisting of a pyramid aligned with a platform to the east that supported three temples.
The Mundo Perdido complex was rebuilt many times over the course of its history. By AD 250–300 its architectural style was influenced by the great metropolis of Teotihuacan in the Valley of Mexico, including the use of the talud-tablero form.During the Early Classic period (c. 250–600) the Mundo Perdido became one of the twin foci of the city, the other being the North Acropolis.From AD 250 to 378 it may have served as the royal necropolis. The Mundo Perdido complex was given its name by the archaeologists of the University of Pennsylvania; it is centred upon the Lost World Pyramid and a small platform to the west of it.
The Lost World Pyramid (Structure 5C-54) is the largest structure in the Mundo Perdido complex. It lies in the southwest portion of Tikal’s central core, south of Temple III and west of Temple V. It was decorated with stucco masks of the sun god and dates to the Late Preclassic; this pyramid is part of an enclosed complex of structures that remained intact and un-impacted by later building activity at Tikal. By the end of the Late Preclassic this pyramid was one of the largest structures in the Maya region. It attained its final form during the reign of Chak Tok Ich'aak in the 4th century AD, in the Early Classic, standing more than 30 metres high with stairways on all four sides and a flat top that possibly supported a superstructure built from perishable materials. Although the plaza later suffered significant alteration, the organization of a group of temples on the east side of this complex adheres to the layout that defines the so-called E-Groups, identified as solar observatories.
