The goal of Star of Hope school activities in Trinidad is to give poor children the skills necessary to enter primary school so that in future they better chance to improve their own lives.
In our schools, we give children a well-balanced meal and basic health care.
These things together create conditions for children from poor backgrounds to grow up into healthy, educated adults who can provide for themselves and their family. In this way we are able to help develop entire communities! For how can a child be able to rise out of poverty if he or she cannot read or write, and are always hungry or ill?
Another important objective of the activities is to show these children and their parents that there are people who see their situation and who want to help them to change it.
In all things we purpose to demonstrate the love of God toward the people we serve and as possible share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Coco is my favourite... I've been wearing it since about 1999.
I've been playing around with the BW function on my camera today... especially the sepia effect. I have a dreadful confession to make... even though I have had this camera for more than 6 months... I didn't know it had BW capabilities.... I just discovered it today when I read the manual for the first time. I feel sooooo ashamed! In future I will always read the manual... of everything. I'm one of those "let-me-figure-it-out-for-myself... I-don't-need-to-read-the-manual" kinda people. Shame on me... SHAME ON ME!
Anything
I always find this the most difficult of any of the themes here at SOTD. This is the last picture I shot (yesterday) for a project I am doing with the them "The Creative Powers of Water". Expect to see lots of water featured in future. 😎

We headed down to the inventively named Beiriso, in Holbon, on its very first day of public trading. Turns out this wasn't a very good idea since they'd run a soft launch the day before and completely run out of everything food related. Well, asides from fruit, cereal bars, brownies and cheesecake, I guess! (I ate a brownie). Beiriso's angle is that they fuse Japanese and Italian cuisines (both of which I'm sure you'll agree are fucking awesome) eschewing the unhealthier bits of the two - thus creating healthy fusion food in a takeaway format for the time starved but rather health conscious people of Holborn. Seems legit.
OK, so I dunno if it's any good or not, but I got to meet Roya Latif, the founder, and her boyfriend (or possibly husband, I can't remember) who has a face I recognise from MMA (he confirmed this). They both seem nice enough and I'm hoping that if i reappear in future I'll get to be able to try some of this exciting sounding cuisine. Beiriso is a combination of 'bei' and 'risk' - which are respectively the Japanese and Italian words for rice. The Italian style coffee was pretty good. Because a double espresso that singes your eyebrows is always a good sign. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng.
If anything, this exhibition raises more questions than answers. Will we make hay while the sun shines, or when the sensors say? Will visionaries and dreamers reinvent farms as on-demand food forests, skyscrapers, or even theme parks? What crops should we be cultivating now for a very different future: bacon-flavoured seaweed, heirloom potatoes, or fly meat steaks? FIELD TEST will bring you into dialogue with a range of artworks, products, farm hacks, robotics and microfarms that are real field tests: experiments at the boundaries of art, design, science and farming. SAC seemed to be fairly relaxed about wielding SLRs so I got the Nikon out for the second half. It takes better pictures under the stage lights but it makes a lot more noise than the TZ5. Also JB gave me a bit of a Look when the focus light continuously shone at him. I hadn't yet worked out how to turn it off so I had to cover it with one of my fingers for the rest of the show.
I think I may compromise on the FZ28 in future as it's more discreet.

4th of July DC fireworks, as seen from Daingerfield Island, Alexandria. At left is the airport. I definitely like the idea of boats and the fireworks reflection. I will have to pursue that further in future years.

An office, made originally for Cap Gemini, situated in the new Papendorp office park near Utrecht, is a campus-like complex. It consists of an undulating, raised park landscape, from which five free-standing towers rise skyward. There is parking space underneath. The eye-catcher is an enormous, spider-shaped Plaza, which is half-submerged below the lawn. This central plaza contains the main entrance and forms the link between the various office towers. An important guiding principle for the design was ‘sustainability through flexibility’. In future, the various buildings can also be rented out individually without requiring substantial alterations. Gross surface: 75.000 m2.
A new tradition maybe, although the large crowds could be a deterrent in future years... the night Colette, Eric, and I went though, it wasn't too bad. I had been the weekend prior with my mom and my sister, but Colette had not gotten the opportunity to really run and around and play. So, Eric and I took her back, this time giving her a bit more freedom to run about and enjoy herself. It was an awesome night. This was when the temperatures were still just right and before we had started to busy ourselves with housework. Now that we've moved into our house, we've hardly had time to edit pictures, let alone snap 'em. Hopefully, that will start to change in the upcoming weeks. Happy belated Halloween, everyone!

Following a revamp of the local constitution, Northampton Council declared that in future members of the public would be restricted or even outright prevented from speaking at their meetings or petitioning council members on issues being discussed.
Thus, the local anti-cuts campaigners were told that they would no longer be able to speak at meetings. They quickly organised a small protest outside the next council meeting, which embarrased the council into allowing them inside to speak, and called the entire 'reform' into question. Go People Power!
(the lib dems are currently in power in Northampton, hence this placard)
