Kenya received a lot of rain for more than 3 months. The rains caused flooding and swept many homes away. Many people lost their lives.
Although the rains subsided in parts of Central, and Western parts of the country, many parts of the Eastern and Southern areas are still hurting. As a result, many people have lost their homes, clothing, food, and even household items. Landslides are still taking place in areas like Nakuru, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, and Kirinyaga. Many of those affected include members of the LCMC church.
The goal of the project is to assist 512 families who are members of LMC in Kenya with financial donations, seeds, building materials and to help them restore their damaged properties from the severe flood which has been ongoing in Kenya.
This intervention will impact people differently:
1. Church members, some of who are still camping in a school compound or in public places in tents, will feel humbled when they realize that through some invincible hands, they have been assisted to gain their homes again, eat normally, have clothing again, plant grains during the planting season, and allow their children to resume schooling again. This action will be an automatic encouragement in the ongoing proclamation of the gospel
2. Since the targeted regions include mission areas, and this being an open event, non-members will appreciate the gesture and might in future decide to join the church.

Kenya received a lot of rain for more than 3 months. The rains caused flooding and swept many homes away. Many people lost their lives.
Although the rains subsided in parts of Central, and Western parts of the country, many parts of the Eastern and Southern areas are still hurting. As a result, many people have lost their homes, clothing, food, and even household items. Landslides are still taking place in areas like Nakuru, Kisii, Trans Nzoia, and Kirinyaga. Many of those affected include members of the LCMC church.
The goal of the project is to assist 512 families who are members of LMC in Kenya with financial donations, seeds, building materials and to help them restore their damaged properties from the severe flood which has been ongoing in Kenya.
This intervention will impact people differently:
1. Church members, some of who are still camping in a school compound or in public places in tents, will feel humbled when they realize that through some invincible hands, they have been assisted to gain their homes again, eat normally, have clothing again, plant grains during the planting season, and allow their children to resume schooling again. This action will be an automatic encouragement in the ongoing proclamation of the gospel
2. Since the targeted regions include mission areas, and this being an open event, non-members will appreciate the gesture and might in future decide to join the church.

Ah! Mystery solved, sort of. The easiest lunch option was the hotel restaurant. Very grand but shabby. High ceilinged and wooden panelled interiors led onto a beautiful terrace. And the terrace overlooked an oasis. I'd better do my research in future. That's not what I expected from the crawl up a drab little alley. Well, it was an oasis, once upon a time. When the good people of Ica tapped into the ground water, the oasis at Huacachina dried up. Now it is kept topped up with water pumped in from elsewhere. Sadly much of the rest of the former resort is just as run down. It must have been grand at its zenith.

In 1937, Winston Churchill said of the Palestinians: ``I do not agree that the dog in a manger has the final right to the manger even though he may have lain there for a very long time. I do not admit that right. I do not admit for instance that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to these people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher-grade race, a more worldly-wise race to put it that way, has come in and taken their place." That set the trend for the Israeli state's attitude towards Palestinians. In 1969, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said, ``Palestinians do not exist." Her successor, Prime Minister Levi Eshkol said, ``What are Palestinians? When I came here [to Palestine] there were 250,000 non-Jews, mainly Arabs and Bedouins. In the summer of 1967, Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Settlers were offered state subsidies and development aid to move into the occupied territories. Almost every day more Palestinian families are forced off their lands and driven into refugee camps. Palestinians who continue to live in Israel do not have the same rights as Israelis and live as second class citizens in their former homeland. Over the decades, there have been uprisings, wars, intifadas. Tens of thousands have lost their lives. Accords and treaties have been signed. Ceasefires declared and violated. But the bloodshed doesn't end. Palestine still remains illegally occupied. Its people live in inhuman conditions, in virtual Bantustans, where they are subjected to collective punishments, twenty-four hour curfews, where they are humiliated and brutalised on a daily basis. They never know when their homes will be demolished, when their children will be shot, when their precious trees will be cut, when their roads will be closed, when they will be allowed to walk down to the market to buy food and medicine. And when they will not. They live with no semblance of dignity. With not much hope in sight. They have no control over their lands, their security, their movement, their communication, their water supply. So when accords are signed and words like `autonomy' and even `statehood' are bandied about, it's always worth asking: What sort of autonomy? What sort of state? What sort of rights will its citizens have? .

Chesapeake Bay Hall, the newest building addition to the William & Mary Batten School of Coastal and Marine Sciences & Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), was officially opened with a dedication ceremony on April 10.
The building will serve as a hub for much of the lab-based science occurring at William & Mary’s Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences & VIMS, including shellfish health, fisheries genetics, aquatic diseases, harmful algal blooms, marine contaminants, microplastic pollution, microbiology and plankton ecology.
The three-story, 68,240 square-foot building — adorned with a large map of the Chesapeake Bay on its northern end—features advanced equipment and a modular design allowing for flexibility in future research. In line with W&M’s focus on environmental sustainability, the facility was built to LEED green-building standards.
During the dedication ceremony, welcoming remarks were made by Derek Aday, the Dean of William & Mary Batten School and Director of VIMS. Following his remarks, the William & Mary provost spoke, along with the Rector of the William & Mary Board of Visitors, Sen. Ryan McDougle, and Del. Chad Green.

Observation Tower/Homestead
Opening in future development will be an interpretive area focusing on the history of the Indian Camp Creek Park site. Near the fishing pond, park goers can view the Cannon family cemetery, with headstones dating to the early 19th Century. In the "back loop" of the park, guests will be able to climb to the top of the former grain silo for an overlook of the surrounding countryside. An interpretive area near the observation tower will showcase the original homestead believed to have been built in the late 1800s, with a “ghost structure” of the original log cabin.

Participants leave with a greater appreciation for what colleagues in the region are facing and better poised to offer support in future campaigns and joint actions.
