Possibly zero access to Flickr (hopefully not!) I will be away soon, off to Snowdonia with my lovely sister Margaret. I won't be on much at all from Sunday 14th July for a few days. I hope to have time to show you a few photos from there in future, if I manage any good ones !

This was taken in Plantsbrook Nature Reserve - not Wales - at the very end of May. Amazing to think how lovely the weather was then, how much rain we've had since - and now it's 'changeable'. That's the UK for you - 'changeable' in most ways !

Take care of yourselves and have a lovely time everyone !

~ Done in Topaz Studio and PicMonkey for the final details ~

And for no reason at all, apart from the fact I love Joan Armatrading and this song, here is some music for you.

In English, this French title means: pruned tree. Springtime is the season where many trees, willows and others, are pruned. We humans go to the hairdresser, but we are never pruned, really. Yet, the act of pruning on trees is an investment in future growth, in a better tree. Many trees react with strength on pruning, but very old and weak trees can die because of it. If nature would have some kind of message for us humans about how to live and become stronger, then pruning has a special message. Pruning could then mean for us something like ‘consuming less to produce more’. Cutting back can be the best investment for future growth, it revitalises the system from inside. The tree falls back on itself, has no leafs at all, but is more vital than ever. This is what you can call ‘the miracle of life’ and I hope with this photo, to share this miracle; all you need to see is that the tree is alive. Vive les arbres têtards!

The River Cuckmere flows towards the sea (on the left). Nature and human controls have resultedin the lovely curving river. In future the valley may be allowed to flood again.

Taken in the Dahlia garden, near “De Piepermolen” te Rekken.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But how did the dahlia garden in Rekken come about?

In 2010, during the centenary celebrations of the Rekken Folk Festival Association (*Vereniging Rekkens Volksfeest*), a dahlia garden was created for the first time at the Piepermolen in Rekken. To mark the association's 100th anniversary, a group of volunteers planted a garden featuring 100 varieties of dahlias—unique types not typically used on the local parade floats. Public interest in the dahlia garden was overwhelming. Consequently, a number of volunteers joined forces again to create another dahlia garden a few years later. Thus, in 2014, a second dahlia garden was established at the Piepermolen. With 160 varieties, this garden was even larger than the one from 2010. Once again, the garden was enhanced with various decorative elements. There was great interest at the opening, and many people visited the garden in the weeks and months that followed. The response was extremely positive, prompting the volunteers to decide right then that the dahlia garden would continue in future years. Now, that time has come again; the volunteers are already busy preparing for the 2022 dahlia garden. This year, many varieties of dahlias will once again be on display.

The volunteers spend more than six months hard at work—not only establishing the garden but, more importantly, maintaining it. Their tasks include planting the dahlias, hoeing, removing spent or damaged blooms, and lifting the tubers at the end of the season. All of this is very labor-intensive; the volunteers certainly spend one afternoon a week on it.

i found this pretty glass plate yesterday. it's ridges catch light so beautifully. you will probably be seeing more of this in future...hope you like it!

A fine upstanding specimen of a bird. This is not a weather vane, it's my attempt to rescue a backlit shot that failed spectacularly. All it took was a little effort, imagination and a generous serve of Photoshop magic, and see what I got!! I'll try harder with taking my shots in future.

This is a month old creation. Before my art exhibition which was held in the month of July/2019.

Now I have completely stopped doing any painting using oil paper. I have been advised to create a lot of abstract art or keep Indian tradition in mind to do few contemporary arts.

Feels good that an architect has selected nearly 40 of my painting collections and he will give a call back to fix the price. Since he picking it up in bulk, the price will go down. But I’m so excited and happy.

As I know his taste for the type of art he likes, I would love to do few more collections for him. He can pick more than 100 paintings. Hoping for the best. And I have to meet few other art dealers and art gallery people. As it is raining most of the times, I’m making myself busy in splashing colors on big canvas. Planning to use huge canvas in future. Almost 6 x 6 feet.

Though I faced difficulties and hurdles after leaving my job to follow my passion, I am happy that slowly I’m able to make people notice my work. Sometimes I have to spend a lot for colors and canvas. It’s a tricky situation. But I’m happy. Hope I get more experience and start creating vibrant paintings in future.

Another sunflower almost out, I wasn't very hopeful as we planted them late but I think this one will make it. The other one in comments is the same flower that I photographed a couple of weeks ago. I hope that will bloom fully this weekend. Must remember to plant things at the right time in future!

I didn't think I would get this one posted today. Once again I will be without internet this weekend so will catch up as soon as I can. Have a great weekend everyone.

Later, trying to bring the crown into her midday rest for photos... not so great. After a few tries she resignedly did not throw off the crown immediately, but I'm not sure we can call this 'posing' as much as 'making me promise there would be treats for this in future.' It's been so hard being away from my work for so long, but I'm really looking forward to getting back at it and really committing myself to progress in future months.

A celebration of light & color.

Tech note: How to get a bit more depth of field, shooting close and wide open in low light? Focus Stack! Easy with focus bracketing & IBIS on the X-S10. A burst of 16 exposures with electronic shutter, handheld. None of the individual exposures have sharp focus on both vases. Load to layers in Photoshop, crop square, Double size, AutoAlign, AutoBlend, Crop back to original, Binate. Probably the up-and down-sampling are unnecessary, so will skip that in future. No adjustment to the image hue, saturation or lightness, but I guess it will still qualify for Sliders Sunday?

I've found this both signs in Hambourg/ Germany.

But what does it means? Is a return path a 'Return' path or a 'One-way-Road'?

Are we all coming back to the point we were starting? Or we will see us after holidays back on this side?

However, I must enjoy sun, water, wind and time. Reading on peaceful places many, many books, meeting people on crazy and sometimes boring places to make the best of it. If you are one of them, I will be happy to see you my friend, and for the others: Hope I will see you in future, too. Nothing can't be better than a crazy group of photographers : )

Enjoy your time!

This picture marks the beginning of a new series: In future, when traveling and staying in a hotel or guesthouse, for example, Secretary plans to always take as interesting a picture as possible from a window in his room, in which part of the window itself should also be visible.

The series begins with this picture taken in the city of Lüneburg (Lower Saxony, Germany). It was challenging in that the very nice room was on the top floor and the window was set into the sloping roof. To open it, it had to be swung out of the roof plane around its horizontal center axis.

The wildlife are certainly taking to the new lake and a Swan is already nesting on its margins. This year the Five Rivers team provided her with some straw to build her nest, but in future years she will be able to take full advantage of the reed (Phragmities) that have been planted across the site,

and that’s not all, Five Rivers will be providing the ducks and swans with their very own floating nests. Giving them extra safety during the nesting season.

And following the previous post, a late birthday post for my Petal. I hope you keep the wings you have, and they stay vibrant and powerful as you've shown them to be, in the past, now and in future. Love you always. X

Much Love,

Danny.

Stumbled upon a different processing filter for contrast by accident (Pro Contrast in Nik Collection), which did wonders for the underexposed raw file. Think I'll be using this more often in future. Cloned out a few distracting elements in the original image, as well.

The first of a collaboration series with the great Flickr photographic artist, Harsubagh.

"H" approached me a few months ago and asked if we might join forces and see what comes of it. I heartily agreed as I have always deeply admired his work.

A brilliant and utterly fearless experimenter, H produces work that has little regard for popular taste or convention of any kind, and, as such, grabs my attention and holds it there in fascination. He's not afraid to push into territory that some might mistakenly feel is "unfinished" or "raw", yet if one takes a few minutes to view his pieces, great depths and the subtlest of details emerge.

I feel his work has a very different way of unfolding, a very different sense of time. It opens itself up at a comparatively "glacial" pace, not at all how a lot of work is immediately apprehended in a second or two. So, in this way it's almost antithetical to "Internet Time". Harsubagh seems to live in defiance of that rapid-fire, get it all in one second immediacy of Internet Art. For this I've always admired him.

Here are 3 pieces he sent me that I wove together and subjected to text and looping lines etc to "unify" the collection. The photographic manipulation is HIS and I did nothing to change his work on them at all. I just assembled them in my own way and tied them together.

Harsubagh and I plan on more of these in future.

A street view looking south from Central Park at the 100 block of N. Water Street in downtown Decatur. All but two of the buildings seen on the west (right) side of the street are either contributing or significant buildings in the Decatur Downtown Historic District added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The non-contributing buildings are the single story (Murphy & Co.) building on the southwest corner of N. Water and E. Prairie streets, and a three story, modern retail and office building seen at the opposite end of the block on the northwest corner of on the N. Water and E. Main St. The buildings on the east side of the 100 block lie outside the boundaries of the historic district.

All of the architectural contributing and significant buildings were constructed between 1892 and 1915. The most interesting of these buildings will be highlighted in future posts.

Decatur is the seat of Macon County. The city was founded in 1829 and is situated along the Sangamon River and Lake Decatur in central Illinois. Decatur has an economy based on industrial and agricultural commodity processing and production. The city is home of private Millikin University and public Richland Community College.

Decatur's estimated population for 2019 was 70,746, making Decatur the thirteenth-most populous city in Illinois, and the state's sixth-most populous city outside the Chicago metropolitan area.

On the Monday of my holiday I ventured to Low Newton to visit the extraordinary Jigsaw rocks. Unfortunately the tide was not quite right but a rain shower as I was driving had kindly wet the shore making them stand out in the directional light of dawn. This is one of the best sunrise locations I've ever been to and I must say I was utterly smitten with the place. I will return again with the right tide in future.

Sciurus vulgaris

As a conservation project the Yorkshire Arboretum have in the past year introduced a small breeding group of native Red Squirrels , maintaining a population for future reintroductions.

The half acre site is surrounded by a fence with a non-grip coating and a cleared non jump zone to keep the reds in and the greys out. The enclosure has a grove of oaks and other trees, in which the squirrels live natural lives. The area has no overhead netting. A board walk open to the public passes through the site assisting financial support to the project.

The squirrrels succesfully bred this summer producing 4 kits to 2 mothers. The young squirrels will eventually go to other facilities, ensuring that there's a viable population of red squirrels to use in reintroduction projects in future.

It's already past midday, but the temperature keeps increasing to reach the peak of the day. The hot humid air creates mirrages above the wheat fields as birds chirp away. The entire area is one of the least densely populated regions in Poland, completely remote - almost uncharted - and the only man-made sounds to be heard here are those of a village housewife chopping wood by hand in the distance.

Then all of a sudden this peaceful, tranquil atmosphere is ruined, as a loud roar can be heard from the distance. The instantly recognisable engine sound comes from SM42-2622 of SKPL, as it hauls the second part of the loaded cement train from the pickup point in Lipusz towards the prefabs factory located in Osława Dąbrowa. The heavy incline and the deteriorating state of this forgotten railway line do not allow the train to go faster than 10-15km/h.

Such transports occur roughly once a week, or sometimes rarer than that, as this was the first train in two weeks. The old railway line Lipusz - Korzybie remains otherwise unused, with the exception of coal trains to Bytów (running once every 3 months) aswell as fuel transports to the PERN storage in Ugoszcz (once every 2-4 years).

This exact picture is by far my favourite of this year, when it comes to those taken in Poland. Maybe not so much because of its artistic quality itself, as rather to the experiences bound with it. Cycling through the unpaved roads in the middle of nowhere for tens of kilometers aswell as the unique atmosphere of this particular railway line, which seems to have been stuck in time for the past 20 years, are something I will never forget, and I hope to return here very soon.

More about this train, this line and this trip in future posts!

This young lady was created entirely using Adobe Fuse - she is NOT real! I had hoped to introduce models into various real pictures to add interest, but unfortunately, the rendition isn't realistic enough to place them in good lighting, but you may spot one or two in the background or shadows in future.

The most spectacular vantage point I have ever been to is undoubtedly Črnotiče, a natural balcony overlooking the entire valley and offering views both inland and towards Koper and the Adriatic Sea. From here, you can clearly see the final stretch of the historic climb between Koper and Divača, one of the routes

The most spectacular vantage point I have ever been to is undoubtedly Črnotiče, a natural balcony overlooking the entire valley, offering views both inland and towards Koper and the Adriatic Sea. From here, one has a perfect view of the steep final section of the historic climb between Koper and Divača, one of Slovenia’s most important freight lines.

On this section, trains tackle gradients of up to 26‰, transporting goods daily to and from the port of Koper towards the heart of Europe. The trains, which are often very long and heavy, still require a pushing service today, with an additional locomotive at the rear to assist the train on the climb. A practice that was once common on the Gotthard line in Switzerland too, but which disappeared completely following the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2016.

For me, the most fascinating locomotives on this line remain the 363s belonging to the Slovenian railways, Slovenske Železnice, nicknamed “Brižite”. They belong to the large family of French Nez Cassé locomotives, which were once widespread in many countries including France, Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Morocco, and even made their way to other continents such as Brazil, the United States and even South Korea.

The nickname derives from the resemblance that Slovenian railway workers noticed with the actress Brigitte Bardot, later adapted into the Slovenian form “Brižita.

In this photograph, bathed in a beautiful afternoon light that is gradually turning golden, the 363-031 is transporting containers from the port of Koper to the Slovenian hinterland. At the rear of the train, another 363 provides the necessary traction as far as Hrpelje-Kozina, the station where the pusher locomotives finish their work and often return to the port under their own power.

Unfortunately, this fascinating railway line is nearing the end of its importance in freight transport.

In recent years, a new line has been built featuring a base tunnel beneath the Slovenian Karst, designed to overcome the difficulties of the historic route between Koper and Divača, and is due to open by the end of 2026. It will eliminate the challenges of the current line, including its steep gradients but, above all, the single track, which severely limits the line’s capacity.

With the new link, it will be possible to speed up freight traffic and significantly increase the number of trains bound for the port of Koper, but for photographers with a connection to the line, it will inevitably be a stab in the heart.

In future, heavy freight traffic will in fact disappear from the historic line, leaving only the 3–4 daily passenger trains, now operated almost exclusively by the SZ’s modern Stadler fleet, which is decidedly less charming than the iconic ‘Brižite’ trains still in service today.

One last deviation...far from perfect again, but one I happen to like for the somewhat surreal / fantasy-like look.

Thanks for your patience while I experimented with these, I hope to do better in future! :)

www.deezer.com/track/20704

When winter comes

Along these shores

Old Hollywood

We're knocking down

We're sifting through

We are the actual tigers

When winter comes

They leave behind us

Throw your arms around my neck

And hold me tightly

There's a lot that we will get

I'm asking you...

Let your diamond bracelet fall

Over the ice age

Over the ice age

Those summer years

We'd follow them

In light of day

In light of us

We'll see it through

When they're playing our song

Those summer years

Have long since gone

Throw your arms around my neck

And whisper softly

Of a thing that we will get

I'm asking you

Let your diamond bracelet fall

Over the ice age

Over the ice age

I want to go back

I want to go back

In future times

We'll hold it closer

Imagining

We weren't older

Yet, through it all

They'll be playing our song

Throw your arms around my neck

And whisper softly

Of a thing that we will get

I'm asking you...

Let your diamond bracelet fall

Over the ice age

Over the ice age...

Pete Yorn

It was raining steadily as I finished my "ecotour loop" along grid roads and through the park. Several big bull Bison were at a waterhole, and I made this shot on foot - although not far from my car - as the biggest of them emerged. Enormous. Powerful. Iconic. Impressive. I could keep finding adjectives, but maybe a picture really is worth a thousand words...

There were few tourists out and an abundance of wildlife, so expect to see more from this day in future postings.
